Android TV Mi TV Stick audio delay (100-200ms)

Mi TV Stick audio delay (100-200ms)

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 07:00 AM PST

It seems that there is a general audio delay (audio is late by about 100-200ms) that impacts all apps. It is mostly apparent when looking at lip sync. I am kind of sensitive to these kind of things so I noticed it immediately and has bothered me ever since. I was hoping for an update that fixes is but there is none so far.

I have no audio delay on any other devices that I have. I can correct it in Kodi - it has a feature for it -, but there is no option for it in Netflix, Youtube, and other apps that I tried. I wonder if others have this issue, too.

Initial Impressions of the Humax Aura (UK FreeView Play)

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 02:46 AM PST

Brief review of initial impressions of the Humax Aura.

Disclaimer 1 - I do not sell devices, nor do I sell iptv, nor to I recommend any sellers for boxes or iptv, so please refrain from messages if any about that. I have no motive bar giving this initial review of this device , like any devices people need to really see what they want and take any review with a pinch of salt, but i will share my experiences anyways.

Disclaimer 2 – I will try not to compare vrs Nvidia Shield, Google Chromecast with Android TV, Mi Box 4s, Formuler GTV nor any boxes of that nature as quite simply its different a usp and Humax usp is UK FreeView play moving away from there purely uneditable boxes, now with android tv os with chromecast.

I suggest also people check Humax forum and AV forums as been good amount of people have moans and groans regarding certain things, but I am purely trying to judge based it being a launch box and main use of FreeView and of course android stuff in which I do prefer my other device for.

    !!! PURELY A UK MARKET BOX !!!

    Brief Specs

    4 x Broadcom Brahma B53 @ 1872mhz
    Runs Ondemand between 416mhz – 1872mhz
    3gb ram

First of all I would like to start with I am trying not to compare to things like Nvidia Shield which has had android tv os for 5 years and has a very active forum community and hotfix betas and will try to keep it based around its main USP which is UK FreeView Play STB but also the benefits of having android TV OS and Chromecast.

So far Freeview Play part has been fine for me, good picture, no sound issues and no failed recordings bar when I restarted box (obvious) during a recording. The freeview play apps I.e BBC iPlayer (bar launch day), ITV Hub, All4, My5, UKTV, BBC sounds, CBS access, Horror Bites (which means all uk catchups) all work fine and quick to load and works great when scrolling back in epg for programs that have it, also installed discovery + but out of all my test boxes this plays with bad audio sync on this and unwatchable, I also extracted BritBox from Amazon (then login amazon apk and britbox) as a workaround until its released on this platform, If bought by people not to technical, or people who don't test devices to maximum then I would say the STB part on early impressions would suit many uk households looking for FreeView Play and ability of Android TV OS, it fast, easy and such a simple UI, although I turned pip off as that was annoying me. I say this as experienced streamers / device testers will find bugs easier and annoyances they have compared vrs other devices.

Third Party apps can easily be side loaded by every generic way of doing it, and playback on certain third party apps utilising a debrid service has been fine.

Android TV OS and apps I have installed a range of apps uk and usa apps which all work fine also, and playback has been fine bar the discovery +, there was reports of micro stutters on Prime, but I haven't noticed that as of yet. I get audio sync issues on Kodi but adjust via audio offset but is somewhat an annoyance.

Issues that will effect many users so far.

    1. If using a vpn on ethernet it disconnects ethernet, literally kills network, which is an android pie bug, so needs devs to sort (I very much doubt it will) works fine of wifi and if have wifi toggled on prior it just auto goes to wifi, ethernet can be fixed by unplug cable and back in or restarting. (old android pie bugs)

    2. IpV6 address even when off on router, few devices did this, but they added an Ipv6 toggle on and off, again I doubt that will be added. (Nvidia Shield added and Formuler have added this for a while, even though said wont compare this is something many don't have)

    3. Exclusion of Netflix and no certification, but based on phone call to Humax doesn't sound like its coming either.

    4. NowTV installs but says not compatible, again Humax saying they working on it, however NowTV works on zero android tv devices bar exclusive to Sony Tvs with Android TV OS, so probably line of code in app to device check, again who knows if Humax and NowTV will come to an agreement.

    5. Humax line of support seems rather non existent in bug reporting, have had zero replies on any email sent with bugs, online chat seems generic and only honest info was via phone call. But we will see as it is only just launched. But as all device testers / people who like to have a play know it's not always clear cut and you just hope long term support is there, and feedback could have well been passed over to devs.

Humax Aura is for UK market, no point in abroad. It has no Netflix. for frame rate matching I have only seen in the freeview settings and per app, I haven't found it in normal display settings in android like I have done in prior boxes via beta.

My wife really likes it for the series link, reminders, recording of UK channels, and it does that well for us for that purpose.

Soundbars / Avr / Amps / Home systems – Cannot comment as do not use any of these.

Xiaomi Mi Box S: Is it good for 4K + HDR from USB streaming?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 02:53 AM PST

    Hi all,

I want to buy a TV Box to watch 4K movies, since my TV's internal player doesnt do well with all H.265 formats. I will be using it with my external SSD, through the USB port. Is the device capable of playing 4K with HDR from the USB port?

    Thanks!

GoogleTV loaded on a Mi Box but it runs slow at boot up

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 10:14 PM PST

Is there any way to improve performance? Also, it seems to turn off completely after a while rather than be asleep so I have to unplug it then plug it back in.

How much of an improvement would a Chromecast with GoogleTV be over my current MiBox?

It's not the 4k Mi Box or the Mi Box S. It was released before these different versions came out and there was only one.

    Initial impressions of Formuler GTV

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 12:14 PM PST

Disclaimer 1 - I do not sell devices, nor do I sell iptv, nor to I recommend any sellers for boxes or iptv, so please refrain from messages if any about that. I have no motive bar giving this initial review of this device , like any devices people need to really see what they want and take any review with a pinch of salt, but i will share my experiences anyways.

Disclaimer 2 – I will not compare vrs Nvidia Shield, Google Chromecast with Android TV, Mi Box 4s, nor any boxes of that nature as quite simply its different a usp and Formuler usp is still MOL2 but now with the added benefit of official Android TV and Chromecast. With the above brands having their own reasons why people purchase them also whether thats due to specs, gaming streaming or what not.

Disclaimer 3 – based on a solid 5 days of usage, strictly this box for all media in that time, of course things may change, but this based around that

First of all I would say out of all the boxes I have tried, and thats a lot, in same usp/genre (dedicated iptv stbs) this is my favourite so far, its very nippy, smooth scrolling and performs what I use with ease.

Android TV OS – so every app installed from native play store is designed for TVs, requires no air mouse, of course that differs if side load and will depend on the user.

    GeekBench 4 – Multi core is 2205

2gb ram has been a plenty and I have noticed no slow down or any ram hog issues as of yet.

    Pros

    1. MOL2 epg is pretty instant across all 10 portals, switching between epg, channel list, groups is rapid and without lag.

    1. Things like local timeshift, cloud timeshift and scheduled record has worked perfect so far.

    1. Vod which I rarely use in MOL2 is also been seamless on what titles I have played.

    1. Runs the third party vod apps utilising debrid and scrappers and runs them all fine so far, not slow and performance has been fine, Plex also works very well for me.

    1. VPN usage, you don't get much loss in speed, doesn't have the android pie vpn bug that some have where it disconnects ethernet, also the IPv6 toggle is there also.

    1. The remote is fantastic, again probably one of my favourites so far.

    1. Official apps like Prime, Disney+, Dazn, Espn, Peacock Discovery+, My5 all have been fine and I have experienced no micro stutters.

    1. Echo above, haven't had any audio sync, any micro stutters on any content as of yet, no IP bans across 10 portals and 3 m3us.

    1. Nice and easy update method, little notification comes up in top right of screen.

    1. Voice typing, voice search and apps like plex for voice is very handy also.

    1. Official Android TV and Chromecast.

    Cons

    1. Not currently Netflix certified, which I expected as that's super hard with all the quotas and jumping thru hoops, but I assume they will be working hard to get, temp workaround is patched mobile app that needs mouse but runs at 1080p at 5800kbps. Official App is in store, but brings error.

    1. UK users then currently BBC iPlayer is not certified or in play store, again this is just after launch, so I imagine Formuler will be working at this also, same applies to ITV hub although that is in the store. Kodi users can install BBC and ITV as addons as workarounds until if and when offcial apps certified.

That is for cons really so far based on first week of mucking about, but not particular for me as I use all UK catch ups on a dedicated freeview play box which is also new in the Humax Aura (Android TV OS also) and Netflix via my Samsung hub, but I mentioned so if UK users know as this will save any moans after a purchase.

--- If this is in wrong section, just remove it.
