Google Pixel 4a Battery Life Experiment

    Posted: 01 Feb 2022 11:15 AM PST

In the last couple of months I wanted to do a little Battery Life Experiment on my Google Pixel 4a. So, first I regularly updated my phone to Android 12 and noticed that I lost about 1 hour of battery life compared to Android 11. On Android 12 I hardly got 3,5 hours of screen-on-time. This got me thinking and I downgraded to Android 11 again. I immediatly noticed that the battery lasted approximately one hour more. Then I decided to downgrade to Android 10 and I got around 6,5 to 8 hours of screen-on-time. I don't know what it is with the Android updates that shortens the battery life this much. So, for everyone having battery life issues, try reverting to Android 10.

Got the update to Android 12 (oneui4) yesterday and I just found about that there is a option to limit the battery charging limit to 85% to extend battery life, nice 😊👍 the settings page

TIL that if you tap to open the AR lenses on Snapchat and then take a picture, the post-processing will be removed and your pictures will look much better!

    Posted: 01 Feb 2022 05:31 AM PST

I recently bought the Galaxy S20 FE and while I really like the phone, I hate how bad Snapchat's camera quality is, especially the front camera's. Apparently this is a really common issue on Android phones besides a few exceptions.

I came across this thread where someone suggested to open the AR lenses while taking a picture. I thought it was BS but it actually made a huge difference, my face no longer looks smoothened!

It's possible that this doesn't work on every single Android phone but hopefully this is helpful to some of you;-)

Edit. If you scroll down the thread a bit, someone posted a before and after comparison

Bad news: I'm told that due to supply chain issues, the Galaxy S22 lineup has had a slight setback.

Pre-order for ALL devices is still happening on event day (Feb 9)

However, availability has now been split:

    S22 Ultra: Feb 25

    S22 & S22+: Pushed to March 11

Why isn't the lifecycle of Android phones as good as that of a PC?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2022 08:39 AM PST

I understand that the hardware of the smartphone might not be good enough for newer versions. But let compare smartphones with PCs. That is true that eventually a PC cannot upgrade to the latest Windows but at least the life cycle of a PC is much longer. I bought a Lenovo laptop (core i7-4700mq) in 2014 for 550 Euros (No installed OS) and currently it runs Windows 10 smoothly. Windows 10 support ends on 2025 which gives me an 11 years of service by my laptop. In comparison, I bought an Android smartphone in 2017 which has Android 7 and soon my bank app will not work anymore so I am forced to buy a new smartphone only after 5 years while the smartphone still have a great battery life and performance. It seems smartphone industry tries to force people to buy new smartphone once in while! That is wrong!
