My Dad lost his old phone, got a new Android but can't remember his Google account. What do? Posted: 16 Nov 2019 11:04 AM PST So he lost access to his old phone and is now claiming all his emails, contacts, etc. are lost. I told him he just needs to log back in to his Google account, but he has no idea what it is/was. He's getting on, and not super tech-literate. I think most of it was set up by someone else. His main email is a btinternet one, but if I try and reset his password or anything for him (even using his mobile number), there is no Google account attached to it. Is there any way to work out what his email even was? I'm presuming he made a quick Google account when he set up the phone years ago, then someone added his btinternet account into Outlook on there (or whatever he was using) and he never used the Gmail. He would have had to have something to install apps from the Play Store etc., surely? [link] [comments] |
Phone will either discharge within 2,5 hours or have 10+ hours of charge. Posted: 16 Nov 2019 06:43 AM PST So my moto G4 has two distinct reactions to being charged. It either has a completely normal battery life of 10-14 hours or the battery discharges within 2,5 hours. On the bad charge it will drain as soon as I discharge it , it will go down to 80% in 20 minutes , even when the phone is not being used at all. The problem is not that I use different apps , the CPU and RAM aren't abnormal, I think it's a problem with the battery indicator. I don't charge it any different it will just be random chance whether the phone has a good or bad charge at any given time. Can anyone help me out with this? [link] [comments] |

Dumb questions about password manager apps. Posted: 16 Nov 2019 10:27 AM PST
Perhaps I'm being overly cautious here but I want to be able to trust a service without worrying about my passwords being lost or compromised. Many thanks. [link] [comments] |
Is there an Android app to easily compose 8/16-bit music for my new YouTube intro? Posted: 15 Nov 2019 10:25 PM PST I used to compose very accurate ringtones on Nokia phones in the past, and I was wondering if there's an app I can use to similarly compose for my YouTube intro. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 16 Nov 2019 04:24 AM PST Whenever i try to download and update large apps, usually my games, google play store abruptly cancels my updates for some reason(specifically the download and updates for Azur Lane). I also wasnt able to download some large games even if my phone storage can handle it. I tried everything from clearing my cache and data to even uninstalling and reinstalling the updates for the google playstore app with no success. I ended up just downloading the apk of the app that i wanted to download. I want to avoid downloading apks since most sites that offer them are really intrusive with ads and pop ups. Is there any other way to be able to update my apps without it stopping midway through? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Nov 2019 10:26 PM PST I tried turning off the screen timeout automatic reset function in the power saving options, and for a while it worked, but my phone just reset to 30 seconds again. I haven't installed any new apps recently, so I don't think any apps are interfering. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
ELI5: Storing photos/videos you record on expandable storage Posted: 16 Nov 2019 06:09 AM PST I would like to switch to Android for a number of reasons, but one is that I would like all photos/videos I take to be stored on expandable storage. My ideal set up would be where I take videos/photos and they save directly to a microsD card, they sync to Google PHotos, I then take the card out when it's full and store it as a backup, put a new card in and continue. I read somewhere that some phones see expandable storage as an extension of the internal storage. So my question is: Do all Android phones with expandable storage let you select the microSD card as the location for photos/videos? If not how can you tell which models let you? [link] [comments] |
PS3 controller via OTG on Android Posted: 16 Nov 2019 07:35 AM PST Hey all, I've seen threads about this topic, but the question was asked so long ago - and I'm wondering if things have changed? I'm trying to turn my old galaxy S6 in to a mobile gaming setup, specifically for n64 games, but I'm having issues with getting my wired PS3 controller to communicate with the phone. Initially I thought that it must have somthing to do with the controller needing extra power - so I connected the phone to a powered USB hub via OTG, and connected the controller to the hub - but that did not change the problem. Additionally, I've heard about six-axis-controller app, but my phone is locked by Verizon and I cannot root it :( Here's the weird thing tho - I have a Galaxy J3 2016 as well - which I use as my daily driver - on that phone the PS3 controller works flawlessly, no need for root, or six-axis-controller app, or anything like that - its just plug-n-play. And I've heard that earlier flagship phones - galaxy S3 for example, work flawlessly with the controller. So I'm wondering what exactly is the roadblock that is present in certain Android phones that prevents them from recognizing game controllers that are plugged in. I'm gonna try one last ditched attempt to see if I can run Anlinux or other linux emulator on the galaxy S6, to see if a driver installed on those systems can recognize the controller, and if so, perhaps I can run Mupen64 inside Anlinux?? Idk if itll work but I'll keep you guys posted. [link] [comments] |
Best way to switch from iMessages Posted: 16 Nov 2019 07:34 AM PST I have been considering switching to Android but I just realized about iMessages. My whole family uses it. What is your advice for how to switch to Android with the least disruption. [link] [comments] |
Looking for MIUI users to tell how it is Posted: 16 Nov 2019 03:43 AM PST Hello, I love stock Android and I'm looking to buy a Xiaomi phone, the Mi 9 se specifically. I'm scared I might dislike the MIUI, and I would love to hear some impressions from users. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Nov 2019 10:29 PM PST I live in Bangladesh and its legal to record calls here. I am using a Samsung Galaxy A20 and there is an option for automatic call recording as well as a record button when you make or receive a call. Now the thing is, some calls are recorded while others are not. This seems to be random with no pattern. I am on Android 9.0 Pie and it seems that it does not let you record calls unless you are in one of those countries where call recording is legal. So it should work here in Bangladesh. Also, I don't want to root, flash or make any other drastic and risky changes to my brand new phone. Can someone suggest a solution for this? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 16 Nov 2019 11:56 AM PST Only seems to be the app and it is entirely random. Just started happening yesterday. Sometimes it'll be an hour between pauses or maybe 2 minutes. It's not from me touching the screen and it doesn't happen with notifications. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Nov 2019 11:42 AM PST I changed my number in WhatsApp because I moved to a different country All my 1777 contacts start with 0, I didn't need to add the international prefix ( +xxx ) at the time of living in the first country Now most my chats show up as normal numbers and I can't see anyone's status updates, I've asked support and they told me to make sure all permissions are enabled (they are) and that all my numbers were in international format. Changing each one individually (even if only the ones that use WhatsApp) would take so long, is there any other way to batch change the 0xx part of the contacts to +xxx? Is there a way to self destruct a android device? Posted: 16 Nov 2019 11:42 AM PST Hi everyone, So i've been working on a app that does some root things i needed. Now was i looking at the file structure of android, and was wondering if there is any file that will destroy the system by deleting it. If so, which file? I was thinking of destroying the system by making it unable to boot. When Android boots, the first thing it does after the bootloader is processing the init files, so would deleting all the init files be enough for Android to never boot again? [link] [comments] |
Dual partition/boot for any android device (preferably a newer and non-chinese model) Posted: 16 Nov 2019 11:33 AM PST So I have this good friend from China who is wary of the snooping eyes of the government. I recommended a dual partition/boot (apologise for the crappy terminology, but you get my point) especially after the force installation of jingwang and regular phone checks in Xinjiang but all the methods don't work on x64. He is open to getting a new phone specifically for this purpose, but wishes to keep it under 5000 yuan. Ps: he has an iPhone X currently, so if you know the magic around those pieces of junk, I would be even more grateful. Thank you all so much. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Nov 2019 10:49 AM PST Good afternoon, I'm currently looking for a car charger That can charge my Nite 10+ as quickly as my 25 watt charger can and will activate that 25 watt charging. A few chargers I've seen 25 watt it higher all specify that they won't activate the notes 25 watt fast charging. Does anybody know it a car charger that can activate it? It would be a tremendous help if so, thank you. [link] [comments] |

How to configure DNS for the users connected to your android's hotspot? Posted: 16 Nov 2019 10:26 AM PST I have a lenovo tab(android 9) and I frequently use it as hotspot for my android phone (android 7.1.2 and 8.1). To change DNS in them I've to setup local VPN like with Blokada and DNS66. But I don't want to do it and I am using Private DNS in my Lenovo tab (AdGuard DNS) and I want to block ads for all whoever connects to my WiFi (friends and me) like router set DNS rules for every device connected to it. How to do it? [link] [comments] |
Unable to receive group messages since enabling RCS Posted: 16 Nov 2019 10:19 AM PST So I enabled RCS on my phone and after changing my mind about it I tried to disable it through Google Messages and ever since then I have been completely unable to receive group messages on my phone. Every time something is said in the group chat I receive it individually from the member who sent it with the error "Message expired or not available." However, everything still works on the default messaging app but not on Google messages which worked up until I enabled RCS, which tells me Google Messages is the culprit. How can I fix this? Posted: 16 Nov 2019 09:56 AM PST Galaxy S10+ running Android 9 with One UI 1.1 with Nova launcher I've restarted the phone after Cyberghost said it should help open the VPN connection, haven't tinkered with any other settings, and upon restarting everything is huge, like it's zoomed in. Icons, the actual apps, even the status bars and the bottom buttons. I've looked for a setting that will put it back but no luck, anyone got an idea of what's happened? [link] [comments] |

specfic device won't connect to specific wifi network Posted: 16 Nov 2019 09:07 AM PST so i recently just moved and my phone (oneplus 6) won't connect to my home's wifi network. the network connects to other devices such as my laptop and my parents' phones just fine. my phone also connects to other wifi networks just fine. the problem, afaik, is only my phone attempting to connect to my router. i've tried restarting my phone, router, changing the password, nothing has seemed to work. i did remove the password authentication and my phone managed to connect, however this isn't feasible as i'm not looking to leave my wifi unsecured. setting up a guest network didn't allow me to connect but turning on the wifi hotspot from my laptop (that is connected to the wifi in question) works fine. at this point i really don't know what the problem is and would appreciate any help [link] [comments] |
