MiniReview 1-Year Anniversary + website sneak-peek [a huge thank you!]

    Posted: 17 Jun 2021 04:24 AM PDT

As of a few weeks ago (June 4th, to be exact), MiniReview has officially been publicly available on Google Play for 1 year.

I wanted to mark this one-year birthday with a quick update and a HUGE thank you to everyone who has downloaded the app, shared it with their friends, rated and reviewed games, suggested new features, and helped report errors.

Because of your lovely support, the app is now at over 35.000 downloads, and Alex and I are working hard on the next era of MiniReview; the website.

To celebrate the anniversary, here's a sneak-peek of the upcoming MiniReview website as seen from a desktop. We hope to have the full website ready towards the end of the year.

Sneak-peek pictures of the desktop version of the website (3 images; discover, browse, and game pages): https://imgur.com/a/SbzEOko

    New features of the website

The website is a complete rewrite of MiniReview (front and back-end), but our mission remains the same; to help you discover actual great mobile games.

MiniReview is meant as a home for us truly passionate mobile gamers - a place where games are properly dissected, analyzed, organized, and discussed by a thriving community.

Some of the new features of the website include:

    • A brand new "Discover" homepage made up of different sections that highlight various types of games. This is for when you don't know exactly what you're looking for. There's still a "Browse" page that lists all games in order, like in the current app.
    • Game pages for games that don't yet have a review yet. We'll still add tags, screenshots etc. for these games so they can be discovered through the filters. We have already started adding these games to our backend, which means the website will launch with more than 2500 game pages!
    • Longer user-ratings; you can write much longer user ratings to properly share your thoughts on each game.
    • Ability to upvote/downvote user ratings to indicate whether you agree or disagree with them
    • Brand new user profiles that you can share with your friends to tell them about your favorite games (each profile lists both your favorited games and user ratings)
    • iOS games data (with options to see only Android games or only iOS games)
    • Curated "Top Games" posts with various topics
    • A blog so we can more easily communicate about updates, giveaways, etc.
    • Multiple new sort/filtering options

    _

In the future, we'd also love to build many more social features that allow the community to grow and thrive in various ways.

As usual, ideas are always welcome, and we already have a huge list of things we want to improve and implement after the website launches. We have enough work for years to come, hehe.

Thanks once again for being part of making MiniReview what it is today. Here's to the next year! :)

[Request] Looking for one handed strategy/RPG games

    Posted: 17 Jun 2021 10:30 AM PDT

New dad here and finding it somewhat difficult to play games that are in landscape and require two hands. I've been enjoying Bad North a LOT and looking for other games similar to this (yes I know this is landscape but it's fairly easy to play single handedly).

One handed, quick strategic/RPG games and non-gacha are my only requirements.

[DEV] This weekend, I made my first platformer in 48 hours in the GMTK2021 game jam. The feeling I was going for was "reverse Downwell" as well as fitting the theme of "Joined Together". Would you play this on mobile with swipe controls? Feedback appreciated!

    Anything like TWEWY on Android?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2021 01:33 PM PDT

So my phone does not support the Android port of The World Ends With You being too old for newer Android versions. Is there anything similar gameplay-wise? Hopefully an official release on Playstore and not emulated stuff...

Do any of you know any word game apps that's like this Eminem lyric?

    Bad Meets Evil Album
    Welcome 2 Hell

    The Clues:

    • Bruce Willis on his death bed, last breath with an infection, fighting it while he's watching internet porn about to meet his death with an erection
    • My God, what I mean is David Carradine jacking his penis in front of his tripod, choking his own neck, what part you don't get?

Answer: I'm saying I die hard

I listen to this album a lot and every time I hear this verse, I keep wondering if there are any word games like it that give you clues to figure out the phrase.

[Request] Looking For A Good FREE Game. PlayStore Only.

I'm Homeless... Well... I actually live in my car... But that isn't what I mean by Homeless...

My Whole Life seems to be pretty much a waste. But I'm not in trouble with money. I live in my Car by choice now... I have a job and make money and everything so that isn't an issue...

You may be wondering why I am mentioning this or what it may even have to do with the topic of this post... Let me get to that in a moment... Actually I'll say it:

My Life Has No Purpose. I could get a home and actually find much cooler games online that are actually fun... After all I haven't seemed to find any good games on the playstore so far... But aside from that I don't have the desire for a home. I would just pay more money to live alone. Not just that but I don't feel like I have found my place yet. I don't want a home to tie me down and then the next day want to move elsewhere...

Many nights I think to myself that I wish I could wake up in a new world, a better world.... If not that just maybe take me back to when I was like 12 years old and let me keep my memories to change my life for the better or at least see what I could do differently.

I am pretty empty. I have no family and no friends. Please don't think I am exaggerating, I promise this is the truth. Unlike many people who actually have family or friends who say they have none... I really do have NONE... I actually really dislike people... I don't have any trust or faith in this World or in Humans...

Maybe you don't care to read this but I think it's important to have a good game with story so if you can't even put up with a story like this that is actually pretty short.... I don't think you would be able to suggest me a game I would enjoy...

I have become content with the idea that I won't ever be successful aside from perhaps monetarily... Which isn't important to me... I'll someday have a home and maybe find games on the computer to occupy my time as well....

Anyways I guess I am looking for many things... But let's focus on what you may be able to help me with:

    • Games: I am looking for a game I may like. Perhaps by reading what I said above you may be able to supply me a game I might like... Of course I have ZERO confidence in that occuring.

    • Stuff like Anime Manga Cartoons And Comic Books: I like all these sorts of things. I actually really like reincarnated type stories these days because I myself wish something for a better life...

If you have any suggestions or questions... Go ahead and Comment.

I have No Faith in anything good coming from this attempt.

EDIT: Paid Games can be advised but.... Honestly it's not about the money. I don't want to risk downloading a game and feeling disillusioned and then just uninstall it. I do that with free games all the time. It's not about they money.

Request: puzzle adventure point and click games with a story

    Posted: 17 Jun 2021 04:24 AM PDT

Looking for games similar to: Infamous Machine, Nobodies, Agent A, Tormentum, Lucid Dream series, and all the Rusty Lake games. Not much of a fan of strictly puzzle games like The Room or House of Da Vinci.

    Any suggestions?

Any of non modern city builder game recommendations? Be it Fantasy, Rome, medieval or just unique.

    Posted: 17 Jun 2021 01:45 AM PDT

While I love city builders, I don't really care about modern setting.

So something like Banished, teraforming mars or like upcoming game Terra Nil where you restore nature from desolate earth.

Looking for a tactics game with tabletop hockey style combat.

    Posted: 17 Jun 2021 07:10 AM PDT

A while ago I played a game which was a standard tactics game (bunch of specialised units, turn based, etc). But instead of being on a grid, it was top down, and on a unit's turn you basically slingshotted them at other units. The controls were like those mini golf games - drag backwards to aim, release to fire. Then units slid across the map like hockey pucks.

Melee units would slide far and attack on hit. Ranged units wouldn't move much but would fire a projectile in the direction you aimed. It had pixel graphics, and was light fantasy - so there were mages, archers, warriors, etc.

Anyone recognise this game? Or anything with similar gameplay?

    Switch-like USB controllers?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2021 06:55 AM PDT

    Hello,

I am interested on buying one of this but I can't find very personal opinions on the topic, neither a curated list of worth devices.

Could you please recommend me some devices? It's important to be USB, I don't stand the Bluetooth lag (and please, stay on topic and do not come here with comments like "Bluetooth lag is not that bad" and things like that, you are free to open a new thread to discuss that if you want).

    [DEV] Maze Game

    Posted: 17 Jun 2021 02:36 AM PDT

Maze Game is a free game in which you navigate a series of mazes to reach the goal. You can either swipe on the maze to move the player or tap the directional buttons.

The game features 3 difficulty levels and a daily challenge as well as theming so you can change the colours of the player, maze and user interface.

An unobtrusive (I hope) banner ad is displayed at the top of the screen and rewarded ads are present if you want the game to show you the path to the goal.
