how to blur background in Nova Launcher app drawer

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 06:28 AM PST

I have my Nova Launcher mimicking OneUI home as close as I can, so I can have the Samsung launcher I like plus the ability to actually change my icons around as well as have the Google feed, and it's been kinda killing me that I can't find any way to blur the background in the app drawer like OneUI home does.

Woke up in the middle of the night to my Umidigi A3 Pro badly overheating, while on airplane mode and unplugged

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 04:08 AM PST

    Hey everyone,

I've had a Umidigi A3 Pro for 3-4 months now, and it's going amazing so far. I've had no issue, except maybe for a hack of my email address from China & from Taiwan, although it might not be related to my phone at all.

So last night, I put it on airplane mode, and I unplug it from the socket (I use the original battery and charger). The battery was around 90%. I woke up in the middle of the night and my phone was badly overheating (and I mean, badly). I freaked out because I wasn't using it, it was not charging and it was on airplane mode. I turned it off for a few hours so it could cool down and turned it on again in the morning. So far, it hasn't had any similar problem.

Some precisions : during the night my phone was under my pillow, but the room was cold and my skin wasn't nearly warm enough to warm it up like this. When I say it was overheating, I mean that if I held it for too long it would hurt a little bit, I couldn't even keep my hand on it for long.

The thing is, this overheating didn't use any battery. It was still around 90% when it happened and even this morning when I turned it on again.

So I checked on the internet and it might mean that my phone was working, like, internally installing something that would make it overheat. But it was on airplane mode ?

What could it be ? Do you have any ideas ?

    Thank you very much :)

How to open a spotify podcast in the android app by using a NFC-Tag?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 10:08 AM PST

I know this is a very specific question and I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit for this kind of question, but i would really appreciate it if any of you guys could help me.

I was traying to use a NFC-Tag to open a Podcast from Spotify in the Spotify android app, but it seems that this isn't working right.

First i tried to write the URL from the podcast on the NFC-tag, that worked but it opend the podcast in the browser. Then i tried the same thing with the URI from the podcast. This would open the Spotify app, but with a blank screen. The things that are borthering me are 1. if i am using the URI from an artist, an album or a track it would work just fine. 2. if i am reading the NFC-tag with the NFC-Tool from the playstore and CLICK on the URI thats written on it it works perfectly fine too.

I don't why it's not working. What am i doing wrong?

Unable to send text with Google Assistant

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 09:06 AM PST

I'm on Galaxy S10e unlocked, not beta.

When trying to send a text using Google Assistant, it goes all the way to asking me what I want to send. It then takes that voice input as a question. For example, if I want to text "hello", Google will just respond by saying, "hi, how can I help?"

It won't send the text. It won't do anything. Does anyone know how to fix this, or have any ideas?

    Oneplus 7Pro or Oneplus 7T?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 06:01 AM PST

    Hi guys,

With black friday already going on, Oneplus has the 7Pro discounted below the price of the 7T. What do you guys think about getting a 7Pro over a 7T for a $50 difference? The 7Pro has the higher resolution display, but also has the weird curved edges. The 7T has the lower resolution, but has a traditional flat screen and the cool new macro lense.

    What do you all think?

    Customize notifications individually?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 08:11 AM PST

Title. For example: I sometimes need like 1 person to reach me on one certain app, but i always have my phone on silent which means i cant hear anything if that person messages me, except if i leave it on sound and get every annoying sound notification from every app. but i still want the notifications, just not the sound to all of them. if that makes sense? i have a huawei p30 pro and cant for the life of me figure it out, the notification settings for each app only allow me to turn the sound off/on at most, not fine tune it.

How to save Chrome Cache on non-rooted android phone?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 11:30 AM PST

We connected to a private network today where they set up a website under the address of 1.1.1.1 so you could have seen some images they shared there etc.

The phone saved the website for now, and it's viewable if I open the chrome app but I want to save it because there won't be another opportunity to see it again.

Is there any way to save the website or save the cache so I can gather the data from it?

Here's the info: •it is hexagonal in shape •it has a solid middle button with two screen buttons •it is an Android phone •the phone was black with gold accents •the camera bump was quite big with golden decoration •the charging port was to it's side •it had the number 8818 within the camera bump written in Golden numbers

Yeah that's pretty much all I know and I've been looking for it for quite a while but still no clue.

    Custom icon layout?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 11:18 AM PST

Hello everyone! I would like to ask, how do you make/change the LAYOUT of icons on android? For example: When you change icon shape on android 9, some icons that do not come with a prebuild icon for that shape remain in the shape they are but have a white border around them, and that applies system wide, to all apps, even the ones that you install afterwards. I would like to do something similar, because if i use an icon pack i need to update it for any new app that i install. If i could do this through substratum it would be much better, i am rooted and stuff, but i would rather not use launchers. Thank you for your help!

Spacebar sliding feature to move text cursor disappeared from gboard (Google keyboard)

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 05:20 AM PST

I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and until a few months ago I used to be able to move the text cursor by swiping right or left on the gboard spacebar. At certain point, I don't remember whether it happened after a gboard app update or not, the feature stopped working. Do you guys still have this feature? Does anybody know a way to get it back?

    Wireless Charging Process?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 11:17 AM PST

Does anyone know which process runs wireless charging?

When I enable intelligent battery saver, the device disconnects from the puck when it goes to sleep. If I could put the process in the exclusion list, I could have both working. Note, by default the feature is disabled. I thought my battery was fading, but I pieced together what was going on when I saw it d/c.

The colors on my Samsung s6 are all out of whack! Need help fixing.

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 07:24 AM PST

I put my phone in low power mode to save energy because my battery was running low and somehow it managed to screw up the way colors are rendered on the screen. Reds are now black and it seems that other colors are basically all shades of gray. I looked in settings and I couldn't find any color related options to change. I do have a refurbished phone and I'm thinking something just went out possibly. Has this happened to anyone else? It is not blue light filter related, I checked that already, but I'm at my wits end. Please help. I'm on stock Android 7.0.

Update to Oreo from nougat, now high battery use - help!

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 11:00 AM PST

Trying this again, had no responses last time.

LG V20 - AT&T - Updated android from Nougat to Oreo 8.0 using android update. Battery life is now half of what it was immediately after update and phone often warm to the touch indicating high battery drain, even with no apps open. I used to have 60-75% battery left at the end of the day, now 20-35% with the same usage.

I checked usage stats, roughly 2/3 of all usage by "Android System", "Android OS", "Phone Idle", and "Google Play Services". All other apps are contributing what they normally do, so it looks like it's the OS that is the problem, not an app.

I've tried restarting the phone multiple times, updating all apps, clearing the cache, deleting unused apps, etc. No change.

My last resort now is to reset the phone to factory settings. Obviously I'd rather not do this. Any other advice?

How to show 12 hour time in widgets

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 10:47 AM PST

I'm new to android and been getting into customising. I have 12 hour clock on in my settings, but in the widgets I use, all of them show 24 hrs. I've looked into the launcher settings (Microsoft launcher) and 12 hrs is on in there, as well as looking into the widget coding and changing it, but nothing changes.

    Thanks guys,

Auto pause problem on Samsung Galaxy J3

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 10:07 AM PST

After so many hours of googleing, i am tired af. Cannot find a single solution, the problem occurs while playing music and video (for streaming i don't sure).

It's supper annoying, i googled this solutions and none of this work:

    • Disabling some apps on battery optimiser

    • "Mute" option in Audio settings, J3 doesn't have that

    • Smart Pause option, J3 doesn't have it either

    • Gesture option, J3 doesn't have that too

    • Deleting app's caches, that's useless

    • Soft system reset, nope

    • installing another audio/video app, nope. Every app pause things by random

The most frustrating thing is to Samsung have that famous Smart Pause or "Mute" feature on many models but my J3 doesn't have that and seems i'm hopeless there. I hope someone could help me.

Are there any roms for Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 lite SM-t110

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 10:00 AM PST

Hi, I have been looking for a custom rom for my tablet for more than 3 days, and I can't seem to find anything. I would like to upgrade from 4.2.2 (preferably to 7-8). This tablet is for my niece, and the applications she wants aren't able to be downloaded on android 4 (idk about any other versions). It also doesn't matter if it will lag a bit. It has been rooted, and I have TWRP on it. If I have to use a pc, I will have no problems to do so.

    Device: ZTE Axon M

    Android: 7.1.2

Recently, youtube has been pausing itself every 30 seconds to 5 or so minutes its super annoying it doesnt matter whether its landscape or portrait. At first i thought it was notifications causing this, but no. Happens under any condition. Charging, not charging. Etc

Anyone encounter this problem? I had this happen a couple years ago on my galaxy note 3 but it fixed itself evenutally. Is this a hardware bug or software bug?is there a fix?

weird issue with Dual sim on Oreo

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 09:22 AM PST

i have a really strange issue with my dual sim phone, and i suspect it has to do with android.

it's a dual sim (cat s61). when i fire up the phone both sims (which work flawlessly individually in both the cat phone and my galaxies) work fine. i can send and receive SMS on both cards, and i can call out on both cards.

what's weird though is after i call out on sim 2, i can no longer send or receive SMS on sim 2, and can not longer receive phone calls on sim 2. i am able to call out still, however.

if i reboot the phone all goes back to normal again until i call out on sim 2.

has anyone dealt with behavior like this before? i have reset my network and carrier settings to no avail, swapped sims back and forth to no avail. it just doesn't work like it should. as soon as i call out on sim 2 it stops working.

it's on oreo now, and the pie update isn't available for this phone (i think pie caused some issues, but it's apparently stable with oreo).

Replacement for Alcatel Fierce 4 device not used as a phone

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 09:18 AM PST

I had an Alcatel Fierce 4 phone that went missing on a trip, and I'm looking at replacements. The Fierce 4 has 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, quad-core Qualcomm CPU, 5.5" HD IPS display, 8MP rear camera, 5MP front camera and runs Marshmallow 6.01

The key point is that I wasn't using it as a phone. It came from a friend who lost it, got a replacement from her carrier, and later found it again. It got passed along to me. I wiped it and reconfigured. It became a PDA with WiFi, Bluetooth, and a serviceable camera. It was incredibly handy.

I'm interested in possible replacements in the same general class. I'd like at least the specs mentioned above. Obviously, more speed, RAM, storage, and a better camera are pluses, but those are extras and not requirements. (One addition I would like is external storage in the form of a microSD card.) Things like Locked vs Unlocked are irrelevant because it won't be a phone.

It does need to run Android, but Marshmallow or even Lollipop is fine - I do not need the latest and greatest Android version. (And Lollipop might be a plus because I could root it. I haven't found a convenient rooting solution for Marshmallow.) As mentioned, I won't be using it as a phone, and it will mostly be used stand-alone and connected to WiFi occasionally to check mail and get updates, so the raft of security fixes in more recent Android releases are largely irrelevant.

And yes, price is factor. I can get a replacement Fierce 4 off eBay for about $40, so that's a target. Better specs may make a higher price worth it, but this is a budget item.

    Suggestions?

Private DNS does not work over WiFi

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 08:41 AM PST

Hi, I have a OnePlus 5T on Android Pie and I have been using Private DNS (with DNS.AdGuard.com) for months without any problem. I'm in Poland and my carrier is Orange.

A couple of days ago this strange problem suddenly appeared: whenever I'm at home (I'm renting a place and I have no access to the router or its configuration) and I'm using Private DNS, Android displays "Couldn't connect" under the Private DNS option in Settings. Then the WiFi network stops having internet access, an exclamation symbol appears next to the WiFi icon and the phone switches to mobile data. Once the switch is made, Private DNS continues working without having any problems. But if I turn off Private DNS, the WiFi network starts working fine.

I've read posts all over the internet about people having similar problems, but none had the solution. Does anyone know what to do to fix this?
