| Is it possible to use a foreign phone in the US with good cell service? Posted: 17 Jun 2021 11:05 AM PDT Foreign flagships are so much cheaper than those in the US, and sometimes have really cool features. Many models are exclusive to certain countries. Is it possible to use them in the US, while having good service? Are there particular phones that work better than others in the US? [link] [comments] |

| Push Notifications/Sync Intervals Posted: 17 Jun 2021 11:10 AM PDT I'm at my wits end and hope someone can help me sort this out. For certain apps, Facebook namely, notifications just aren't working. Badge notifications work intermittently and certain items like friend requests push through, but that's it. It's like it's not syncing in a timely fashion. I have every notification setting turned on. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I have cleared the cache. I did a factory reset. Shut off any and all battery optimization and closing of background app settings that I could find, background data is allowed. Can't find any sync settings. Nothing is working. I admin a group but also have a work life and can't just sit around with Facebook open all day to keep an eye on things. I rely on notifications to keep myself more productive and on my phone less. What else could I be doing to fix this? Is this related to being logged in on another device like a tablet or PC? I'm on a Galaxy S20+ with Android 11 and One UI 3.1. Default launcher. Everything is as "out of the box" as I could get it to be. It sounds silly that this primarily relates to the Facebook app but it's kinda crucial that I am able to monitor things without having to be on my phone 24/7 looking for notifications. Thank you! | Does a single `pm uninstall` via ADB also `clear` an uninstallable system app's data? Posted: 17 Jun 2021 11:05 AM PDT I got a new phone and I'm compiling the string with all the commands I'll run via ADB to get rid of the bloatware. I wish to uninstall/disable the bloat but also clear any app data that's left behind. I think for carrier bloatware (the ones that actually let you uninstall them, not just disable), like with any user app downloaded from the Play Store, a single For the system app bloatware (the ones that won't let you uninstall them; only disable them), I'm planning to use [link] [comments] |
| Data roaming activates automatically although I have it off in settings. Posted: 17 Jun 2021 08:27 AM PDT This might not be the right place to post this but anyways. If not, then mods can feel free to remove this post, but pls tell me where I should ask instead, So here is the thing. I am a Greek person and I use the Greek phone service called Cosmote. Me and my parents have a monthly account, which we did in the capital of Greece, Athens. Right now, I am, with my grandparents, in a Greek island in the Aegean Sea called Lesvos. My parents are back in Athens. Now the problem is, occasionally, my phone will just activate Data Roaming for no reason although 1. I am connected to WiFi and 2. I have it set to "never" in the settings. So what it does is, it disconnects from Cosmote, and connects to Turkcell, which I assume is the phone service used in Turkey. This is probably due to the fact that I am closer to Turkey than Athens, so it connects to Turkey instead. Although my WiFi works fine while roaming is on, my mobile data does not. And yes, roaming is on even though I am connected to the WiFi 2 centimeters next to me. Also, Cosmote sends me messages that I get charged 1,90E/minute of calling, 0,40E/message I send and 1,20E/MB of Internet data. And I do not know why. Now this happens occasionally and after a couple of reboots it goes back to normal, but I still need help. So if anyone knows how to fix it, please let me know bc I do not want to spend money for no reason, thank you! TL;DR: I use a phone service with my parents in Athens, capital of Greece. However, I am close to Turkey and sometimes my phone thinks I am in Turkey although I am in Greece. I am getting charged because I am "in another country" (I am not) Please help :) [link] [comments] |
| Best OS for Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro? Posted: 17 Jun 2021 07:31 AM PDT Hi I just bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro which uses the MIUI 12 operating system. I usually don't trust pre-installed OS on phone because they contains a lot of useless things and my paranoid mind thinks the company who made the phone has implemented special apps to ensure a better tracking of my lifestyle. (Yeah i'm THAT important!) So I always reinstall a clean version of android to start fresh. But for this phone i wanted to give a try to the MIUI OS. MIUI interface is quite nice to use and have a few usefull features that are not in android 11 but it embeds a lot of useless apps that you can't uninstall and once again my paranoid mind is still triggered by this. So I was wondering if I would be better off using android 11. So first question, is it possible to install Android 11 on the Redmi Note 9 Pro? If so, do you recommend it? Will I miss some awesome feature in MIUI if i revert to android 11? Thanks all Edit: didn't see android 12 is in beta, so i'll stick with android 11 [link] [comments] |
| Abnormally large text in Google Messages app. Posted: 17 Jun 2021 01:28 PM PDT Anyone else seeing this? Happening on Pixel 4 XL and Galaxy S20FE. The conversation list itself is regular sized text, but when going into any convo, the text is bigger, almost like Display settings Font size Large. Just started happening today. [link] [comments] |
| USB C port outputs only 48khz audio Posted: 17 Jun 2021 01:23 PM PDT Hey there. So I got myself a DAC which shows the sample rate of the played audio file. I tried several apps and smartphones and realized that each one only outputs at a sample rate of 48khz. If you have a 44.1khz file it also outputs 48. Same goes for 96khz. The only workaround I found was the music player "Neutron". It bypasses something in the system settings and outputs every track exactly as it should. But that way I can't hear to my tracks in the Qoboz app. On my pc it works fine. Is there any way to deactivate this android specific problem? I cant find anything in the developer settings. | Google messages app doesn't send or receive MMS Posted: 17 Jun 2021 11:57 AM PDT I have the Samsung Galaxy S20+. The Google messages doesn't download or send the MMS. It's permanently buffering when downloading and when sending eventually pop-ups message cannot be sent repot the error. This is specific to the Google messages app. The default Samsung messages works without issues once I change the default to it. Then when I change the default back to Google messages it will show all the pictures downloaded via Samsung messages but will fail to send/download new ones again. [link] [comments] |

| getting Priority Mode functionality in Android 11? Posted: 17 Jun 2021 09:54 AM PDT In Android 7, I used 3 notification modes (all notifications, calls/messages only (when working/focusing/outside), alarms only (when sleeping, in meetings)) via the "Priority Only" do-not-disturb setting. I switch between them multiple times per day. Is there a sane way to get the 3-mode Do Not Disturb in Android 11 (Pixel 4a)? Without going into DND settings and changing all the notifications every time. I am open to rooting/sideloading/custom launchers, but would prefer this to be low effort... Also frankly I'm open to just installing Android 7/8, I really see no benefit in 11 over the few weeks I used it, but that seems to be impossible for Pixel 4a. [link] [comments] |
| Need help with VITAL data Recovery + Backup (Deadline) Posted: 17 Jun 2021 09:34 AM PDT Hello people, I have a bit of a dilemma, so probably in need of genius, expertise and challenge-lovers, and possibly a miracle The 1st annoying thing is the apps just restart automatically within a minute (some more, some less) and start eating up space again and I have to go through the same process again, and it's extra annoying because they're apps I DO NOT USE ! Nor need ! Nor even want on my phone, but apparently they come with the system or whatever (ex: gmail - youtube - chaton - polaris viewer, yahoo news, and others) so I (kinda) came to terms with that Fast-forward to the day of downfall, yesterday, I was clearing cache as mentioned above trying to free some space for the messages I haven't been able to receive in 3 weeks btw, and accidentally did that for the Memos.. and now all of my 148 notes are gone... The only option I'm being given is USB Mass Storage, or to access USB Storage "My phone has 3 storage spaces : 1-SD card (external, I don't have one) 2- said USB Storage 3- the problematic System Storage (the one that gets weirdly filled up) " Well, They don't I tapped that for about 150 times with multiple variations and no luck, it just doesn't work I'm willing to throw away the phone after this is over, I just need the texts and the notes first and then I don't care Relevant info before moving on : -The phone is not rooted. -I have no external applications whatsoever that could be deleted that I haven't removed years ago -I do Not connect the device to the internet (so no data downloaded, coupled with the fact that no new apps were added makes it weird why it started acting up a few months ago when it did) -No saved contacts on the phone so that one isn't a problem Finally as I mentioned I'm Really not tech-savvy, like, At all. I'm just human and need my info and memories, so please don't judge, and if this post is in conflict with any rules I didn't get then let me know and it'll be edited, and please recommend if there's any other subreddits where people might be able to help tl;dr : Need to recover lost notes from an Android phone and back up SMS somewhere [link] [comments] |
| Receiving blurry, pixelated photos and screenshots through text Posted: 16 Jun 2021 07:52 PM PDT I recently transferred from an Iphone to a Note 20. The Note20 is a carrier unlocked phone from AT&T and I currently have an unlimited data plan with Xfinity. Recently I have been having an issue with receiving photos through text from anybody on my contacts. Any time I receive a photo or other mms, it is super blurry, pixelated and illegible. I have tried various things to try and fix this issue to no avail. Below are some of the things I have tried to test this issue and the results. I have sent various photos of different file sizes to myself through text on both the pre-installed samsung messages app as well as using the Google messages app with RCS turned on. I have sent a photo with sizes 14kb, 128kb, and 365kb. I have sent these images both on and off wifi with at least 4 bars of 4G connectivity. For the Samsung messages app: (assume all images are either illegible or original image was unable to be identified)
After some additional testing it seems that images sent that are larger than 30kb get received as 30kb and images smaller are received at their original file size or a couple kb smaller and also the quality is diminished and pixelated even for the smallest of images. For the Google Messages app with Wifi *ON*: (assume all images are either illegible or original image was unable to be identified)
For the Google Messages app with Wifi *OFF*:
This was something strange that happened. The very first image sent with wifi turned off (the 365kb image) was received as 366kb and also retained its original picture quality. This image had perfect clarity and was received as intended. Since the image was able to be received as intended on the largest image, this suggests that it is not a compression issue with the image being too large for the network, but rather something else causing it. However any image sent thereafter was again received completely pixelated and illegible following this pattern of approx. 30kb. Other methods used to try and fix this issue:
\All image tests were preformed again after each of these were completed with similar results.** Conclusion: As you can see I am pretty determined to try and get this resolved. After all of the troubleshooting I have done, I have not been able to fix this issue or replicate the singular time that the image was received without any defects. I do not know what is causing this issue or why I am unable to receive photos, videos, or other Multi-media messages without it being blurry and pixelated beyond recognition. This issue is very annoying as I frequently am sent images from friends, family, and co-workers, although now I am unable to see what they are. Since I do not use any form of social media I do not have any other way for images to be sent to me other than e-mail which has issues of its own with a major factor being the inconvenience. I hope someone can help me resolve this issue before I decide to return the phone. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Edit: I appreciate the suggestions and comments and would like to say that I am aware of the differences between imessage and android, as well as the limitations with mms. However I would like to reiterate that that this is an issue when images are sent TO me, but they appear perfectly fine on other phones (both iPhone and android) when they are sent FROM me. Additionally if the mms system were the cause then it would only affect images that are TOO LARGE to be sent without compression as opposed to all sizes. For ex: the size limits before compression takes place on AT&T is 1mb, Verizon is 1.2mb, and Xfinity 600mb, these are all about double the size of my largest test images. Also if the mms limit were the issue then it should affect the resolution of the images equally upon sending and receiving instead of only receiving them. Friends and family of mine are able to share images among each other with both android and iPhones without the resolution becoming destroyed in the process to the degree all of mine are. Again I don't have any social media except reddit so I don't have any other method for people such as my mom or grandma who dont have emails to send me images other than through text. No fb messages, snapchat, instagram, whatsapp, etc. Edit 2: I have now tested this on other 3rd party apps, Whatsapp, go sms, Verizon messages +, textra, and telegram. All of which had the exact same issues with blurry pixelated incoming photos of about 14kb-30kb in size. I am beyond frustrated [link] [comments] |
| Ad-hoc support on Android 4.4.2 - How? Posted: 17 Jun 2021 09:21 AM PDT Hello guys I have a problem I have Nokia 808 phone with old Symbian system. I have JoikuSpot app on it. It allows to create hotspot from mobile data on Symbian. And I am able to connect my Arch Linux and Windows 7 to hotspot created by this app. But my Lenovo IdeaTab A3000-H tablet doesn't detect this hotspot. I have read, that it is because of unsupport of ad-hoc, and JoikuSpot creates ad-hoc network. I have Custom Rom installed on this tablet - Android 4.4.2 by kupyxa4444_mod. So question - how to enable ad-hoc support on this tablet and ROM? Thank you for any replies Greetings WW [link] [comments] |

| What is the best way to have my android device reboot at 3 AM automatically? Posted: 17 Jun 2021 02:43 AM PDT I have a rooted device running Arrow OS Android 10 on a Lenovo a6020a46. I want it to reboot at 3 AM. I'd prefer writing a script to installing some shady app. I however amen't familiar with mksh (only with fish and bash). I searched around online but there is quite a lot of conflicting advice, further most of the resources I found used some app or the other. Following this post, I'm thinking of adding ``` !/system/bin/shwhile true; do if [[ "$(date +"%H")" -eq "3" ]] ; then reboot fi done `` However I am uncomfortable running an infinite while loop. Further there is this which I could follow with the same content for the script. I also found this website where they used an app called script manager which is kinda decent but
Doing all this, I really want community opinion on what I should do. My phone is 6 years old and has little computing power compared to today's beasts and I really want it to reboot at 3 AM everyday. [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 17 Jun 2021 07:53 AM PDT I've been using bluetooth tethering in order to use the internet that my tablet can use with my dad's phone. Usually i will just turn the bluetooth of the devices on, and turn on the wifi and bluetooth tethering of my tablet. Then in the phone, i will just click the tablet's name among the paired devices and it should connect. But recently, it doesn't work like that anymore. Even If I click on the name, it wont connect nor show that it connected. It also does not have that "for internet access" option. I can still share files between the two though. I tried to unpair and pair the devices multiple times but it doesn't work. I also tried those restart stuffs and the reset stuffs but nothing worked. The problem started when I shared a 135 mb apk file from the tab to the phone. And then i returned to bluetooth tethering and found out that the two devices should be paired again. After i paired the two, it wont start connecting. [link] [comments] |
| How to allow sound notifications for specific contacts whilst phone is on vibration? Posted: 17 Jun 2021 07:53 AM PDT Hey! Basically with my job I get a ton of notifications throughout the day and I'd like to filter them. For most of them, I don't need the sound notification, just the vibration is fine. Therefore, I like keeping my phone always in vibration mode. However, I'd like to make it so that even if I'm on vibration mode for my phone, if my girlfriend texts/calls me, it rings as if I was on "sound mode" instead of vibration. I searched quite a bit and thought there would be an option for this for like favorites or something but I really did not see anything related to that... Am I the only one that thinks this would be a useful feature..? Or unless it's actually there and I'm blind? My phone is a Huawei P30 Pro! If anyone knows of a solution to this, please let me know! Thank you very much! [link] [comments] |
