Android Questions: Old company contacts being listed in Signal and Threema

Android Questions: Old company contacts being listed in Signal and Threema

Old company contacts being listed in Signal and Threema

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 02:08 AM PST

    Hi everyone

I have an issue with my contact management. For some time I had my accounts configured to sync contacts from my work email with my android / google account.

I thought I had cleaned up my google and android contacts. I stoped my email program from sharing with android, the contacts ap on Android only shows my personal contacts at this point and when going to my google contacts through a web browser I also see only personal contacts.

However Signal and Threema seem to have gotten a hold of the old business contacts from somewhere.

Can anyone tell me where I need to start looking for the source of these contacts?

What phone should I get after Samsung Galaxy S9 that is affordable but won't dissapoint.

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 09:14 AM PST

So my beloved S9 broke yesterday. The screen has been cracked for a while and has finally given up and won't work. I took it to a repair shop and the dude was saying atm screen replacements are costing around 200 gbp (272 usd). A genuine samsung screen replacement is 219 gbp (298 usd) plus 59 (80 usd) for battery replacement according so the Samsung website.

This is definitely the best phone I have ever had and would love to keep it but i'm just not sure splashing that much money just for a screen replacement when the phone is already over 2 years old is worth it. There's no chance I can afford any flagships atm so was looking at phone like the Google Pixel 4a which I can get for just over 300 gbp (408 usd) but the specs aren't any better than the s9 other than the camera and that it is newer (so will likely last longer).

I was wondering if anyone out there has any recomendations? My main conditions are that I would preferably like a phone that still has a headphone jack (as i have and use many headphones and speakers that require a headphone jack), and isn't any bigger than the S9 as i think that is the perfect size. I'm not fussed buying a second hand phone either as long as it is still good quality with few scratches or scuffs.

If i were to fix and keep my S9, realistically how much longer would it last before it just becomes a potato?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks x

    WhatsApp videos stuttering when recording/playback

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 08:21 AM PST

I've just bought a Moto G Pro (the stylus one) and having issues with the video... I've found that any video I've been send is really choppy/stuttering rather than smooth and also any video I record through WhatsApp is also the same? I've uninstalled WhatsApp and reinstalled it but it has stayed the same. I understand that videos get compressed through the phone, but I had no issues on my iPhone with it, and surely it wouldn't be bad enough that it's frustrating to watch videos?!

Any advice? It's my first android since being with apple for 10 years, and I'm already regretting it if this is the case..

Phone keyboard, back button doesn't work.

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 11:25 AM PST

My Phone is a G8X thinQ. For some reason my keyboard does not show up. It does not matter where, be it in a browser, in texting, or social medias. To make things worse, my back button doesn't work (the home and apps button do still work, strangely). I've tried solutions I've found elsewhere like updating my google keyboard but to no avail. The only thing I haven't done is factory reset. The problem is I can't even do that because I must first enter my PIN code, however the keyboard to do so does not even appear leaving me stuck unable to use any of my phone's core functions.

How do I turn off notification bubbles in android 10?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 03:42 AM PST

I have a Samsung Galaxy A80 and I read through the developer options and turned on a couple of things, one of them being notification bubbles. It eventually became annoying so I tried turning it off. Even though the slider in dev options says it is off, I am still getting the bubbles for EVERY notification. How do I actually turn it off?

    Contact from old account

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 04:50 AM PST

So for some time I added a friend's Google account to my primary Android as he had lost his phone. After he got a new one, I removed his accounts. However his contacts are now showing up on my contacts app (stock).

And if I try to delete it, it says "this contact is read only, it can't be deleted".

    How to solve this issue?

Any way to stop Android lowering resolution of brutal high quality Images set as wallpaper?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 10:32 AM PST

Have two high quality images. But clearly Android lowers it's quality when set as wallpaper.

I have Nova launcher, it has possibility to quickly replace wallpapers so when I select already applied wallpaper quality is great, as soon I set it as wallpaper it looks like 30-50% decrease in quality.

It's Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet on Android 10. Any way to force original quality to stay as wallpaper? Without root would be good.

    Thanks!

    Complete Action Using... / Rooting

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 06:30 AM PST

Okay. So. Can't seem to find a straight answer online - I like to think I'm fairly tech savvy but I have an annoying issue. Obviously from the title - Complete Action Using dialogue box opens every time a bluetooth device connects and it's getting annoying when you have as many as I do. Such as a thermometer, lights, headphones. I went through most of the phone and might be missing something

Device: Razer Phone 2 OS: Android 9 November 5, 2020 Security Patch Launcher: Nova Prime

I don't want Spotify, Play Books, Youtube, or whatever other app to open just because I walk home and my phone connects to a thermometer...

I understand rooting the device, I could probably disable it using Super User options. I've had issue rooting this device before unlike many other devices I've rooted. But I would like to do it without rooting to begin with as I figure it's just a process that automatically runs.

I would greatly appreciate some tips on disabling it

    Snapchat login temporarily failed

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 11:22 PM PST

I recently got a new Android today that's unlocked and all the apps were perfectly fine other than Snapchat. I can long in through the browser and my old phone but when I try to log in on the new one it just keeps saying "login temporarily failed".

I have done a safetynet test which it passed, there isn't any roots detected, I've cleared cache and storage for the app, uninstalled/reinstalled, restarted phone, restarted network, cleared cache for both Google play and Google services. I'm not entirely sure what else to try.

    Any advice?

Wait wait....my voicemail data is held by my phone, not my 'carrier'?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 08:00 AM PST

I just had to give-up my long love affair with flip phones and get an android for first time in nearly a decade, at any rate I'd been going through it with adb trying to configure things and thought I had a handle on things til I went to call my voicemail -- dialing 1 from my phone/dialer (is it because it's a google app dialer/phone?) didn't bring me to the old voicemail box from my flip-phone, where I had lots of stored voicemails, but instead had me setup a new voicemail box over the phone....thought it incredibly weird my voicemail would even know I had a new handset...

But then I start getting pop-ups for "visual voicemail"....I didn't Accept or allow anything but WTF? Is the phone & SMS functionality google-applications? Is there any valid alternatives? (Tried the "Simple" suite, like Simple Dialer, stuff isn't "stable release ready" sadly)

    Thanks for any guidance/insight!

Google Play Store is stuck in a start loop, and it's annoying.

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 06:39 AM PST

Whenever I start up the Play Store, it opens, loads in completely, then the white screen with the logo pops up again and this process repeats. It does this seemly infinitely. I've tried restarting, and clearing cache and data. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Tweaking chat bubble physics with adb?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 06:35 AM PST

My S20 FE just updated to Android 11 / One UI 3 and part of that includes the addition of the android bubble API. I've used Messenger chat heads since like 2013 and it was always one of my favorite Android features. However, the new bubbles seem a lot worse. The spots are tiny and therefore hard to get a hold of, and the physics of moving them around doesn't feel as natural as before. Also small UI changes (e.g. You can't swipe up to close, and you can't tap the messenger logo to open more chats without leaving your current active app)

Is there any way to revert this? Can I get my old Messenger chat heads back or am I stuck with these wonky bubbles for good now that messenger uses the bubble API? If so, is there any known way to tweak some constants using adb or something so that the bubble size/physics more closely resembles what I'm used to?

    Help: Screen Timeout keeps changing

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 06:02 AM PST

I hate screen timeout, as I am often looking at my phone but not currently touching it, so I have my screen timeout at 10 minutes.

Lately, I have noticed in the mornings when I go on my phone that my screen timeout has changed back to 30 seconds, which is incredibly annoying and I know that I have not done anything purposefully to change it.

    Why is this happening?

    Edit: I have a Samsung Galaxy S8

Weird high pitched sound when using Cisco Webex Meet app

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 12:35 AM PST

Sometimes, whenever I enter meetings using the Webex Meet Android app, it starts making a loud, high pitched clicking sound and I can't hear whoever is speaking at the time. The only way to fix this is to close the app and open it again

It does this quite often and it's been doing it ever since I started using Webex last year. I'm afraid my ears might get damaged because of that sound. I've done all updates and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app

It only happens with the Android app and only when I'm using headphones

    Is anyone else experiencing this?

    Hope Someone Can Help

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 08:54 PM PST

i have an old Sony Xperia Z5, been using it since it was released. Yesterday my phone rebooted itself and now its in a "reboot loop".

After the "Powered by Android" logo appears it reboots itself, led light flashes 4 times and reboots again. So basically i cant do anything.

Tried plugging it to the PC with the Xperia Companion but because the phone doesnt boot up and its locked i cant do anything. Tried using fast boot and nothing either. I also tried to boot the phone in recovery mode but it just doesnt work, it keeps restarting over and over.

Is there a way to do a backup without having debugging mode on?

    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Looking for a perfect multi-user reminder (with alarm feature)

    Posted: 12 Jan 2021 08:01 PM PST

    Hello everyone.

As someone in a very complex situation (currently 6000+ miles away from family) I usually sleep through most of the gatherings and community events, which now take place online.

I've been wondering if there's an app that could help my family members set a 'group' alarm (or to somehow send me an alarm) so I can attend these things as well?

Because of the cancellations and term changes that frequently occur, they would set up reminders only moments before the actual events, so I'm looking for an app that would automatically 'accept' all the upcoming alarms. (I won't be awake to accept them on my own)

I'm out of solution right now, so I'd appreciate anyone's suggestion (no matter if its a calendar, a reminder, to-do app, or a regular alarm - I just hope there's an app like that)

    Thanks in advance.
