| How are Android TV roms built differently then mobile Android roms? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 04:19 AM PDT Hi! I was wondering what the technical difference is between Android TV and mobile Android. I'm aware it has a different home screen and the ROMs are built for TVs and all that, but what is the difference in how they are built? Is the Android TV homescreen just a launcher? | Posted: 16 Aug 2020 06:02 AM PDT I've been a OnePlus user about 5 years now. Got the OnePlus 2 when it launched, and then the 6. Now it's time for me to upgrade once again. The thing is though, I can't buy their main series release (the 8) because it's a bit too expensive for me, so the options left are either a series older (7T) or the Nord. I wanted to know how future-proof the 7T is, and if I can use it seamlessly for the next 2 or 3 years (considering my 6 was working pretty well till now except for the midnight WhatsApp backups when the phone got absolutely rekt for 3-4 mins). The issue with the Nord, as I see it, is the Facebook bloatware integration, what that could mean for data security and generally OnePlus betraying their own philosophy of providing a clean Android experience. My 6's display randomly conked off yesterday and my screen is in less than ideal conditions, so if you reckon that getting that fixed is a better option, please comment and let me know. Please let me know of any other brands' phones around the same value range too (one phone that I was considering outside OnePlus is the Samsung Note 10 Lite). [link] [comments] |
Smartphones without glue in them? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 05:41 AM PDT Where do I get a smartphone that isn't held together with fucking glue? I'm clumsy and end up repairing them a lot, and opening a glued-shut phone is annoying enough that screws/clasps are a big big factor in my buying decision. [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Aug 2020 07:48 AM PDT Good morning everyone, I have a Samsung Galaxy A70 (with Samsung's stock, unrooted Android 10 and OneUI 2.0). Developer options are enabled, but USB debugging isn't. IF YOU HAVE ONEUI 2.0, REGARDLESS WHAT YOUR PHONE IS, YOU ARE ALREADY ABLE TO HELP ME, LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ISSUE BELOW.Recently, I went for a bike ride, it was raining, I thought that the phone would be protected the way I was carrying it, but it ended up getting wet and the screen doesn't show nothing anymore, but the phone itself works OK, it also looks like the touchscreen works, at least partially or something along these lines. I have an OTG cable and a USB keyboard that is working on it, so I need someone who can guide me (like if I was blind) with which keys to press on the keyboard and the number of times to press each in order to enable USB debugging, starting from the home screen. Don't know if it is relevant for the question, but the phone's language is Portuguese. [link] [comments]

Can i flash an android 7 kernel on android 9?? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 07:31 AM PDT Yo guys, as the topic says, I need to flash a android 7 kernel on android 9. The android 7 kernel version is 3.4.113-gf82f607f deadman@deadman-desktop #1 Fri Apr 14 22:16:22 EDT 2017. The android 9 kernel version is 3.4.113-g304eb65c7d4 #1 Sat Mar 9 14:18:02 UTC 2019. So the kernel version numbers match, but the letters of the both won't match. So will this android 7 kernel work on android 9?? Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 LTE Android 7 rom - Resurrection Remix v5.8.3 Android 9 rom - Liquid Remix v10.0.0.6 Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Is there a way to use your Android device as a USB speaker without a third-party app? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 11:07 AM PDT Without using an app, is there no way to use your phone as a USB speaker? I know there are multiple apps that I can use to "stream" audio from my pc to my phone, however surely there is a way to use my phone as a speaker when connected by USB? [link] [comments]
How secure is BiometricPrompt for encrypted text such as passwords? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 07:10 AM PDT We know there are apps like Keepass2Android, Cryptomator... That use biometrics such as face or fingerprint to unlock app. The password used normally to unlock/decrypt the data is encrypted via Android Keystore. When i ask this, im not referring to bypassing biometrics by 'fooling' it like lifting a fingerprint, or having a look a like twin. Mainly targeting the android key store directly, when used with biometrics vs a password alone. I just haven't understood fully how android encrypts data with a face or fingerprint securely. Last I knew you could really only use biometrics for authentication, not encryption. Doesn't seem to be too much technical details on this, at least from what I've gathered. [link] [comments]
Where is OEM key stored for android verified boot? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 10:51 AM PDT Android verified boot relies on OEM public key which is stored somewhere in persistent storage. In most of the android devices, where do OEMs keep this key and is it possible to replace it? [link] [comments]
Are phones with unlocked bootloader less secure "OTA" ? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 10:46 AM PDT Xiaomi bootloader status says "This device is locked - The phone is secured" and it made me wonder, are phones with unlocked bootloader only unsecured on physical access (via cable) or are they also less secure in any way over data/wifi and any other way without physical access? Thanks! [link] [comments]

I jumped into the pool with my phone, then tryed to power it on, will it survive? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 10:34 AM PDT Hi, sorry if this is the wrong subreddit, but i jumped into the pool with my phone in my pocket, and only realized after about 5 minutes. I have a A71 (the only A phone that doesn't have a level of water resistance) Stupidly i tryed turning it on (thinking it had water resistance and so would still be fine) but it showed no signs of life. I left it outside for about 30mins because it got really hot and sizzled at one point and, so maybe the battery was being shorted, but now ive put it in rice after taking out the sim card and trying to suck all the water out. Its been in rice for over 24hrs now and i cant hear any water inside when i shake it, nor does any come out when i suck on the ports Is there any possibility that it will survive, and if it does power on after a few days, how can i do a full backup of the phone so that I dont loose anything? Thank you :) Edit: id also like to know how long i have to let it dry before i try charge it, i tried turning it on earlier today but i think the battery is completely dead due to the heating / sizzling problem earlier [link] [comments]

Installed a weird .apk on my android phone Posted: 16 Aug 2020 09:48 AM PDT So hey, I have Drastic DS emulator on my Android phone and haven't used it in a while. Today I tried downloading a ROM from romsmania but the game wasn't showing up in the emu app at all. In a hurry, I was dumb enough (I think?) to install the game by installing the .apk the website gave it to me (later on, I found out ROMS should be in zip mode, not apk) So I just touched on the .apk file and it asked me to install, so I did. It led to a weird white screen with Adblock written on top of it and I quickly realized it might have been a mistake. I didn't gave any permissions to it when it asked. It also asked for a update (?), but I didn't do it. I tried moving the .apk to the Drastic DS file, and still didn't appear on the emu app. I also noticed in my notification bar there was a white rectangle, just like a notification, but it was all blank and when I touched on it, it led to that weird white screen with adblock written on top of it. There was also a app with a weird name in my applications. Realizing the mistake I possibly did, I uninstalled both the game and the thing I downloaded. How do I know I'm safe? Should I just grab my pics and my important files using a micro SD card and factory reset the phone? Will that micro SD card be infected if I put it on the phone? The pics and other files will be infected too? What about my passwords and things I'm logged on? What about my WiFi connection? Can it infect my other devices? Really terribly sorry if it's too many questions, I'm just paranoid about it and I don't really know much about these things. Thank you so so much. [link] [comments]

Notifications don't show up unless I interact with my phone (Galaxy S9+) Posted: 16 Aug 2020 09:17 AM PDT Not sure what is needed to fix this. But I've noticed for the past few months that when I leave my phone alone, after a while new notifications don't see to come up the instant they're supposed to happen. They come up only after i move my phone around or turn on the screen. Is there some kind of setting that I can change that will have the notificafions pop up when they're supposed to and not after i interact with my phone? This is a Samsung Galaxy S9+ [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Aug 2020 09:04 AM PDT Hey, guys, I installed an android 9 custom rom on my device, and it's camera won't work, so I thought of installing this android 7 kernel on android 9. The android 9 also users the same kernel version, but i want to know will this work correctly, and it something goes wrong, then can i revive my device using twrp or download mode. I'm trying to do this on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. [link] [comments]
Cheapest 2020 phones with wireless charging? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 08:47 AM PDT I'm having a hard time finding a recent list of relatively inexpensive phones that have wireless charging. Would also like to have good water resistance, decent performance, RAM and storage. Any suggestions? Thanks! [link] [comments]

| Are tablets back to being useful yet? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 07:33 AM PDT About a decade ago I got myself an Acer Iconia A500 and it turned out to be the best thing I could've invested in at the time. I love the way Android 3 and 4 for tablets had this singular status bar where I could put apps for quick access, not unlike you can do on Windows taskbar these days. The tablet was designed to work in landscape mode, and all the buttons were located to the left of the screen - you could access everything pretty easily. That's kind of basically what I'm looking for. If back in 2013 I could squeeze out so much useful stuff out of android, I feel like now that it "matured", as some would say, it could be even more useful. The problem is, I'm not a fan of using a gigantic phone in a portrait mode. I want to be able to plug in a dock, to have a regular-sized USB and a HDMI out port, with a nice UI that doesn't look like a phone, because gigantic phones aren't easy to use without moving your hands like you're playing beat saber. Here's what the old UI looked like, if you don't remember what I'm talking about Do we have something like that on the market these days, or should I just get a Surface or something similar? Thanks! | Is there any way to root the Samsung A40? Posted: 16 Aug 2020 07:02 AM PDT Tried this https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a40/help/samsung-a40-how-to-root-t3929496 but people said there is no TWRP available yet, therefore, a bugged rooting is all you can do for now. This https://www.androidinfotech.com/root-samsung-galaxy-a40-sm-a405fn-fm-s-pie/ didnt work either as it is for Android 9 and I ma on Android 10. [link] [comments] |
