Screen backlight not working after replacing display

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 10:44 AM PDT

Hello reddit, I have a Xiaomi mi a2 lite and I had a cracked display, so I bought a new one and decided to replace it myself, this is what happened: I changed the display and I turned the phone on, first I thought that the display was faulty since the display was black but the touch was working ( I could tell by the vibrations). Later that day I was trying to figure out what's wrong and I had my bright light on and I saw that the display was working but it was really really dark so I went on the internet and saw that some people experienced this too when replacing their display tho I didn't find any solution to this problem. ( sorry for my bad English I'm from Czech Republic)

    Received highly unusual text message

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 05:55 PM PDT

Feel free to delete this post if it's inappropriate for this subreddit. I know it's not specifically about Android, but I wasn't sure where else to ask.

I received an extremely odd text message today. It's the first of its kind I've ever received. It consisted of a single message from an overseas number (I'm in North America, specifically Canada) and the message was nothing more than an incoherent set of characters and symbols.

    Here's a screenshot if you're interested.

I ran a virus scan on my phone and it didn't come up with anything but I'm still at a loss as to what it was.

Bank card safe while wirelessly charging?

So I have my bank card (newer ones, no magnetic strip) between my case and my phone. Is that safe for the RFID/NFC tag in there?

I want to hear text message notifications when I'm in a phone call

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 11:45 AM PDT

I work from home (and have before the apocalypse began) and have been long searching for a solution for this.

When I work, I populate a 24/7 conference line and need to be connected to it for 12 hours at a time. It becomes challenging to keep up with texts from my team's group text chat without having to check my phone every five minute because I cannot hear texts coming in while my phone is occupied with the call.

Lately, it's started making the tiniest little beep when I get texts but it doesn't suffice. I just want it to play the text tone that I have set in Android, which would play if I weren't in a call.

    I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and I'm using Android version 10.

I have googled this many a time but nothing has helped me. I accept my weak Google-Fu and call upon your help, /r/AndroidQuestions

    Thanks

    Pop-Ups that open Webbrowser

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 10:34 AM PDT

Since recently i'm getting these really annoying Pop ups on my phone which open ads in my Webbrowser even when they are closed. First i thought it was something about Chrome, since that was the one that opened at first. But after deactivating it, the Pop ups just open in the Samsung browser. This is the first time i have had something like this on a phone. I do not know what's causing it. I don't think i downloaded any apps recently that could cause it. I scanned with my Antivirus and nothing was found. Anyone know what could help?

Disabled passcode, needed to add password to remove it, forgot it and now I can't add a pass ode.

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 09:53 AM PDT

IMO, this is a dumb system. why not just have my Google password protecting this setting. is there any way I can reset it, or delete it in some system file? it only pops up when I try to add a passcode, and there isn't any "forgot password?"

    SYSTEM Storage Management App??

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 09:45 AM PDT

I have recently noticed that my phone is seriously running out of internal storage space, I have a few good Storage and file management apps on my phone, such as Mixplorer, CX File Explorer, and obviously Google files which are all very useful and through these I have found that my internal storage is using currently only just over 1GB out of the 64GB internal storage that my phone offers. I've found that the rest of the storage is completely being used by the system storage.

Also to be clear I've reviewed and removed all the apps I had that I don't need or no longer use including a couple of large games etc but over time it's just continued to fill up even without these being present on my device. I've also deleted cache files etc.

I'm hoping that someone here can advise me of an app that allows me to review the SYSTEM Storage section of my internal storage (so to be clear, not my main storage, or external storage) and most importantly organise by size and delete where I feel necessary. I understand that the files in this section of my phone are very important to the operation of the device so I will be very careful before going ahead and just deleting various folders. Something that would allow me to review the content and clean up at my own discretion would be great. Does anyone know of any software that can do this?

I also know that this section of my phone is largely restricted and that's fine, I'm hoping/expecting that the more vital system files are the ones that are protected and some of the other files which get filled up as new content and apps get installed on the phone are left accessible, although I'm really not sure of this. To be clear, I don't have a rooted device, however I am open to rooting if necessary.

Thankfully I also have an SD which is also giving me plenty of space to utilise but as a result of the internal storage filling my phone is slowing down and it's becoming harder to install new apps.

    Device: Redmi Note 8 Pro

    Software Version: MIUI 11.0.6.0

    Non-Root

As I've mentioned I'm open to rooting my device, however I have heard that this particular brand and model of phone is highly susceptible to hard bricking when rooting so would really like to avoid if possible.

TLDR: Does anyone know a SYSTEM Storage Analysis app (Not Main or External storage, System storage?)

    sRGB through "color calibration"

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 09:20 AM PDT

    Hi!

So I'm using a EvolutionX on Redmi K20 and i wanted to use sRGB color mode, however at present the rom does not have an inbuilt setting to switch to sRGB so i cant do it directly. I could do it through EXKM but i don't want to root.

However, the rom does come with a "color calibration" option, the one where you can manually set Red, Green and Blue %'s [See Image]

I was wondering if it would be possible to achieve sRGB Color through those three sliders by using specific percentages of Red, Green and Blue.

I'm sorry if its a stupid question, I'm not quite sure how all of this works.

Any pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Samsung Internet, File Manager and Android

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 08:44 AM PDT

Useless: I was going to make a similar post earlier, but I decided to dwell in this shitstorm a little bit more, and it has completely changed

I'm wondering what's going on and if I can do something about the issue

So I download a MP4 from Youtube using a site (Chrome, Youtube, Google Play Music and Google Photos disabled, with YouTube Vanced installed via SAI) (I also just close the tab and browser while it downloads, completely closed, not leave it in the background open)

Download complete (notification from Samsung Internet), I click the notif, automatically starts playing (In Moto G7 Power's File Manager) and I switch to the app I'm going to use while the downloaded MP4 plays in the background, no issues so far!

I'm done, I exit everything, few hours later... back to my gaming session, go to the File Manager, locate and play MP4, I hit the tabs button to switch to my game, but this time no background play! no player notif bar (the pause button, all that stuff in the drop down menu) either

I snooped and snooped, no setting, no nothing (nothing SIGNIFICANT has changed in the phone, just a few bytes here and there), I don't wanna use Vanced because it's a 1 hour long MP4 that I don't want to render every time while playing a online game (Phone ethernet is not an option for me, and this phone doesn't compare to a PC in terms of Wi-Fi performance)

so here's what I got to after 20 mins of messing around, I can redownload the file and hit the notification again for it to play in the background (so I think - maybe I can just go to the browsers' recent downloads, tap the file there, and it'll allow me to leave the File Manager it opens on, in the background playing) but that didn't work.

so basically if I want to play the MP4 offline, I have to download the 160 MB MP4 and tap the download complete notification from Samsung Internet for it to open in the File manager, but this time with background play capabilities. It doesn't do it (background play capb) if I tap it from the recent downloads in the Samsung Internet browser, it doesn't do it (background play capb) if I open it from the file manager... I have to download it every time for offline play, or use vanced, what the FUCK

Make Play Music not detect audio files that aren't music

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 07:52 AM PDT

I have some audio files on my phone that aren't music, and Google play music still detects them and adds them as songs. Is there any way to stop this? If not in play music, is there a better alternative player that plays locally downloaded music?

why might my pixel 3 keep disconnecting itself from wifi and forgetting the Access point password?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 06:39 AM PDT

I have a Pixel 3 (Wife's, actually), fully updated, that connects to my home wifi just fine. The problem is that after some period of time (I don't know how long) it will disconnect from wifi and forget the saved password. I have to input the password every time I'd like to connect.

    • I doubt it's a network issue. My own Pixel 3 works just fine. Stays connected, doesn't forget the password.
    • I'm not sure what to do except hope it's fixed with a factory reset...
    • But I don't want to factory reset now because her phone has some settings put in by her IT section at work for connecting to work services. She can't get those back as long as we're teleworking during the COVID-19 lockdown :(
    • So I'd like to try diagnosing exactly what the problem is without a factory reset. Does anyone have any ideas for how?

    Thanks.

Dark theme is enabled, but doesn't affect Google's apps?!

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 06:28 AM PDT

    Hello,

I sent my Pixel 4 to the lap to be fixed. While it's there, I got myself an alternative phone (temporarily, as I don't know for how long it will be in the lap), Xiaomi Redmi 8, which has Android 10.

I went through all the settings and enabled/disabled some stuff, and then enabled dark theme (called "dark mode" on this device).

For some reason, it seems to affect only the OS basic UI stuff : Settings, notification drawer, etc...

But, it doesn't affect apps, including Google's own apps (Play Store, Calendar, Calculator, Contacts, Translate...) . To be more precise, for a split of a second, I can see the splash screen of the apps does change to black, but when it reaches the real content of those apps, it is on light theme. Meaning, first I see this for Google Translate:

    https://i.imgur.com/7Ig04RR.png

and then after this splash screen, I see this:

    https://i.imgur.com/FfI9mQi.png

I tried to disable developer options (I thought it's something from there) and restart , but it didn't help.

I also tried to make my own tiny app that will be affected by dark theme, and it actually did work fine.

How could it be?Has anyone had this issue before? How can I fix it?

Best way to 'brick' a phone for kids to use?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 04:55 PM PDT

My wife upgraded to a new phone and I wanted to use her old phone (LG V20) for our kids to use the "Our Home" app for chore tracking. We pulled everything we wanted off of it and did a factory reset. Would like for it to only do 3 things: Run a few apps, take photos and NOT be able to make calls or sms. What is the easiest way to make this happen?

    Airpods alternatives?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 09:06 PM PDT

I like the airpods design, galaxy buds hurt my ear and doesn't stay on. I'm not looking for active noise cancellation but rather something like the Xiaomi Airdots Pro 2 and Realme Buds Air.

It needs to have independent buds and in ear sensor. (Unfortunately Ticpods 2 doesn't have).

    Any suggestions?

Pixel shutting down whenever I open the camera?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 09:37 PM PDT

Not sure if entirely appropriate for this sub, but here goes anyway. I'm trying to figure out if my problem is software or hardware related. A few weeks ago, my pixel xl 3 asked me to do a system update so I did. Now every time I open an app that accesses my camera, it almost instantly shuts down and doesn't restart unless I turn it back on myself. Yesterday it asked me to do another update and I thought "Hopefully this includes a fix for this issue". Oh how wrong I was. Now whenever I open an app that uses the camera, not only does my phone shut down, but it also refuses to turn back on for a good 10-15 minutes afterwards. Is anybody getting these issues relating to these updates or am I looking at a hardware issue here?
