Rolled Back To Prior Android Remote Services

    Posted: 10 Oct 2021 07:37 AM PDT

After failing to find a viable third party remote service for Google TV I finally disabled auto update and rolled back the remote app on the Google TV device.

I realize now that the old system probably disconnected just as much, but connects much much faster. Also, it can maintain a BT connection, or if wifi is to slow to connect then start a BT connection (with the hassle of entering a passcode).

Anyway, hopefully Google updates the new system to be useable. Makes me wonder who their beta testers were.

Xbox Game Pass app now has Android TV icon. Not available on Play Store yet.

The current version of Xbox Game Pass for Android now has an Android TV icon, so can be added to the Home screen without any tricks. (There is also a striking Xbox splash screen at launch, I presume to indicate xCloud now running on Series X hardware.)

Surprisingly, the app is not yet available for Android TV via Play Store despite this, so still needs sideloading or installation from a third-party app store like Aptoide; hopefully it will be on Play Store soon.

There is also one regression I noticed. The DPAD_SELECT button no longer works within the app. If your remote (incorrectly) generates ENTER for the "Select"/"Center" button on your remote you won't notice, but for those of us with remotes that generate the correct DPAD_SELECT this means we'll have to use the game controller immediately upon launching the app.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that there is no easy way to get rid of the "New update: Tap here to know what's new with this update" popup without using a touchscreen or mouse. Reading and clearing all new notifications doesn't do it.

Help with old android box Minix Neo X7

    Posted: 09 Oct 2021 11:29 PM PDT

Hi! So I have this old android box that is not used and it was pretty expensive at the time and I spent the whole evening yesterday trying to get it to work.

It's stuck on Minix logo. I tried to figure out how to update the firmware, but no luck. I tried connecting it to my pc which is windows 10 and it won't recognise it.

I also put it in recovery mode and tried to install the firmware with USB.

    I would appreciate ELI5 if anyone know, because I don't understand sh*t🥺

Oh, and also i made factory reset too and nothing.

I wrote to their support team but it's sunday and I'm pretty frustrated and close to throwing it in trash.

I think I just found a solution to Google TV / Google Play Movies app getting Disabled Automatically on Android phone

    Posted: 09 Oct 2021 11:45 PM PDT

As I was struggling for a couple of days with the Google TV / Google Play Movies app on my phone. It was getting disabled automatically. I think I just found a solution to this issue. I uninstalled the previous Google TV / Google Play Movies app on my phone. I have a Google account of Phillipines country, I just used that account to install this app from playstore. And now this app is not getting disabled. My friend also used a Pakistani Google account and installed this app and he has no issue. I am assuming that if you are getting this disabling problem, use the Google account for installing this app which is not supported by Google (Google has told only 14 countries are supported and Phillipines and Pakistan is not present in it)
