So I have a sony bravia xbr55x850d and was wondering if I could turn a flash drive into the internal storage. I talked to sony but they said no, but I want to get a second opinion. It's on android 7.

Thinking of buying Android TV for offline video playback

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 04:34 PM PDT

    Hey,

I've been looking into options for a cabin on the lake with no internet access. I've been looking into Android TV briefly now and think I understand this will work for what I need but wouldn't mind some other opinions incase I'm missing something.

Currently we have video files on an external usb drive and play on a laptop with VLC. It's a little cumbersome to get connected and the laptop is on it's last legs so I was looking a better solution. From what I've looked into it looks like newer Android TV hardware should be able to support most mkv and other video formats? We have a fairly old chrome box which we use at home for browser based streaming on our TV but it runs into issues being unable to play some video files or audio codecs.

My plan is to just have the seagate USB hard drive plugged into a box, box is HDMI out to the TV, everything can be controlled with more of a traditional style remote.

It's possible we could teather to a moble connection at times to stream netflix or prime, but 90% of the time this would be offline.

Am I incorrect in looking to Android TV hardware for this?

    Android TV update disappeared

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 07:58 PM PDT

My Hisense TV told me there was a system update, so I started downloading it and sent it to download in the background. It then promptly disappeared, and checking for an update doesn't do anything to bring it back. Has this happened to anyone else?

Access root on my android device

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 05:48 PM PDT

I have been looking at getting access to my root directory on my android box, I have read that there are some tools to do this. However I am feeling a bit nervous about doing it. Has anybody got experience of this, if so what tools did they use and are there any pitfalls

Does Android TV speaker group work for Hisense TVs?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 09:22 PM PDT

I've updated to the latest version of Chromecast Built In, updated my Google Home app, and rebooted both my phone and TV. However, I don't see my Hisense Andriod TV showing up to be added to my speaker group. Am I missing any steps? Anything else I can try? Are Hisense TVs just not compatible? Or is this a staged rollout kind of feature?

Looking for Android TV device that supports ICC color profiles

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 01:40 PM PDT

So I have created a custom ICC color profile for my display using an X-Rite probe and I would like to find an Android TV device that supports ICC profiles. Or is there a hidden option for that somewhere in Android TV ?

I am kinda surprised that color management is not more commonplace as I can't find any info on Android TV and ICC color management. It's like everyone cares about the number of pixels but not color accuracy...
