| Posted: 11 Mar 2020 06:19 AM PDT (asked the mods last week if giveaways were okay, got no reply, so taking my chances...) orbox b: rebirth is a free sci-fi sliding puzzler with lots of levels and mechanics, available on android, ios and windows/linux. it's still being developed, the latest content update came out a little while ago, and the developer was kind enough to offer a few promo codes to give away. using the code on mobile gets rid of ads, and on all 3 platforms you also get some in-game currency to use on solutions and later on other stuff that's yet to be implemented. if you're interested, comment below and I'll pick 2 random winners on saturday, around the same time as this was posted. and if you like puzzle games, check out the puzzle lovers steam group and curator (I'm an admin there). we have hundreds of recommendations, a weekly newsletter and giveaways, and while it's not specifically about mobile gaming, many puzzlers are available on multiple platforms, and the newsletter often features news about mobile games as well, trying to spread the word about them. thanks for reading and good luck! | Crystal Soul is a head to head card battle game worth playing Posted: 11 Mar 2020 06:09 AM PDT In Crystal Soul you start out with a deck of cards in one of three colors: red, blue, or green. Each color is tilted to a certain play style, and as time goes on and you collect more cards (through winning games) you'll start to see some that dip their toes into the other colors provenance by depending upon or providing the crystals that allow you to activate powerful effects. In other head to head games, you're often in a "rock paper scissors" kind of situation where you just get a bad matchup. Some kind of foil for you. And while to a certain extent that's true here as well, it's much less pronounced, and perhaps entirely mitigated by the head games you're playing with your opponent. I think a good way to talk about how the game plays is by framing it in the context of the effects that your opponent can apply to you. They can take away your ability to see the strength of their cards. You use that knowledge to gauge what you should play on your turn, so you're kind of playing blind. Maybe you want more crystals, and have a low strength card that gives you one. But how hard will you be punished for playing it? If they come up with a 4 strength card, you'll be taking 3 damage (from your starting pool of 15 health) for it. Granted, any time your opponent gives you damage you're going to get another crystal anyway, but still - maybe if you knew they only have 2 and 3 strength cards in their hand you might play a 2 strength card, knowing that if they go big they'll give you a crystal for only 1 point of damage (a great trade), and if they go low you'll still get a crystal - but so will they. You look at their pool of crystals. Do they want one? What do I think they're going to do? Maybe I should play my 1 cost card and risk 2 points of damage in the hopes of denying them a crystal on a tie. They can take away your card's text. Now all your card has is strength, no special abilities, no cost. And they probably know the strength of your cards unless you debuffed them last turn. So do you play high to avoid as much damage as possible? This seems to be how most people play. Or do you play just under what you think they'll play, in the hopes of obtaining a crystal? They can take away your ability to get crystals. Nuff said. They can take away your card draw! Each round, you normally draw 3 cards. This round, you only get one card. Not many decisions to make there, and they know exactly the strength of the card you're going to play when they make their decision. And last but not least, they can take away your crystals. This is bad, but isn't as bad as it might seem, because you get to spend your crystals before they get to take them away. And since maybe they already burned you with this, and you know you're vulnerable, maybe you decide to spend now instead of save. They could be spending their own crystals to destroy yours and they get nothing! Muahahah! As you can see, in this game you're trying to use your knowledge of your opponents cards and their game state to predict their play and then make your play in such a way that you come out on top. This doesn't just mean "I do damage to them". Sometimes coming out on top means taking a little damage to get the crystals you need to power the high cost card you've got coming to you. But some of the cards pretend they're weaker or stronger than they actually are. They've got effects like "Once played, -1 power". So your opponent thinks the card is a 2, but it's actually a 1. And some of them are like "Once played, +3 power". So you think it's a 2, and so maybe you play your 1 thinking to get a good crystal trade, and then they whack you with 4 points of damage. That hurts. And some cards straight up do damage to you if they pay the cost, regardless of whether they have a higher power than you or not. So you might end up both damaging each other, and the lower power card gets the crystal. I like this game. I keep on coming back. I like outsmarting my opponent, rather than playing to economy and punishing mistakes after the fact. The UI could use some polish, and the deck construction is a little rough. As you upgrade your cards, they're not getting stronger - they're getting cheaper in terms of deck inclusion costs. You can only have 1500 points worth of cards, and cards cost anywhere from 125 points all the way to 500 points. As you win decks and collect cards, you can level up the cards you have and make them cost less. So you have to be like "I want to take this card out, and it costs 125. I have 70 points of leeway before I hit 1500, so I can afford a card that costs up to 195" and then you look at the cards you could sub in. This could be streamlined so it wasn't so mathy. | Posted: 11 Mar 2020 09:01 AM PDT I got a to go USB dongle to connect a third party wired Xbox controller to my tablet, but it's flashing and takes some input but not all the input in games. What's weird is with this dongle, the 360 controllers work halfway and the Xbox one controllers don't work at all. I have Android 7 no root. Any ideas on how to fix this, thanks. | Posted: 11 Mar 2020 12:37 PM PDT I've been enjoying the labyrinth-maze type of games recently, those which use your accelerometer to make the ball roll in a specific direction. I wouldn't call any of those games exceptional, but I really like the accelerometer control part of the experience. I was wondering, what are some of your favorite games that mostly rely on your phone's tilt? I'm interested in any genre! But I'd like it to at least be: -using accelerometer for at least two axis of movement, -some kind of a 3d feedback: e.g. if looking from the top and you tilt the phone, you can see the walls from a different perspective -it doesn't have to be top-down, it could maybe be some kind of a first-person 3d space racer, or even some kind of a physics-based game, e.g. pouring water, etc. -using some of the other sensors would also be cool! | Can you keep online games connected while minimized? Posted: 11 Mar 2020 12:25 PM PDT I've tweaked the battery optimization, etc. so that the app continues to run while minimized, but I can't seem to stop it from disconnecting from the network, and only reconnecting when I open the game back up. I've tried with both WiFi and data. Anyone know if it's possible? Edit: device is a Galaxy S10+. [link] [comments] | ||
