What are some good games for $7 or less?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 09:18 PM PST

I'm asking for $7 or less because that's how much I had saved through Google rewards to buy black ops zombies. I know it doesn't work on newer androids but I had heard there was a fix and even watched a video for it so I went ahead and tried it but it didn't work. So I got my refund and now I'm looking for any games I can possibly get. I wanted to get the GTA games also but I've heard there also giving people problems so I'd rather not deal with that. I'm not really into strategy or turn based games. More into adventure, action, and story based games.

Decided to actually push through and create a game I like - Can I have your absolute likes and dislikes on mobile games in general?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 04:13 PM PST

I'm actually a developer/DevOps person and I've tried Unity years ago. Though I did not really push through on creating a game myself. Now, with the current state of the world, I actually played a lot more mobile games. In general, what I noticed was that a lot of games I sort of like, are just milking out their content and users.

After spending weeks not finding a game I actually liked, I decided to start making my own. As I do have spare time and I honestly wanted to make something solid. This is going to be a game that combines a mix of a "Castle defense" meets "roguelike" meets "an Idle RPG" without the idle part meets Diablo2. It's going to be 2.5d. Progression can be made on your town, castle, heroes, soldiers, items and the content will be really diverse.

Currently, the state is that I'm working on the fundament of the game. I have actually tested various things and became more confident about what would and would not work. A lot of what I've done is more on the technical side as drafts and it's way, way, way too early to provide any meaningful previews or whatsoever.

One part of this fundament is a few rules for myself and the game that I've set. I just want to check out if people would agree / like it. Both as motivation for myself but also just checking if I'm moving in the right way. For some, I've added a little bit more context so I could explain better what it means.

    • It should always be playable. One could always do "something" that is fun and rewarding.
    • To continue on the above; so no energy, tickets, tokens, or (massive) cooldowns and other BS.
    • Also, no idle or offline timers/rewards (you want to game right..?)
    • It may have RNG, but not in a way that its full RNG. To explain this further; it should give you a happy moment to beat RNG, but not make you constantly sad when you don't. I think it's important to not have an "everyone's a winner" but one should also not be 99.9% of the time a loser.
    • So, rewarding. I believe this differs per person but in general, I would like to see that people could make progress on multiple levels. One that has somewhat limited time, should also progress in some form and it should still feel rewarding. However, one that puts a lot of energy/skill into it, should equally feel rewarding for that much effort. I believe this should be possible by making sure that (see my first point) there is always something that you can do that actually IS rewarding. One of the key factors I often see in RPGs is that for example, low-level items are really fast, really useless. I strongly believe it does not have to be that way.
    • Content should be massive. Not 1-10 mobs but zergs and cool AOE's - with included drops from mobs for example. However, it should also have elements where there is a lot more of a focus on your 'skill' (i.e. bosses/elites). Yet, I don't want to make it in a way that what you often see, only bosses give 'the best' drops. I'd rather see different options that are perhaps challenging in their own way but regardless of your preference, should not affect the "you must do X to get Y, which is the "best".
    • Content/gameplay over visuals/animations, to some extent, as it should still look somewhat smooth
    • Content should not be felt like a requirement to achieve a specific thing
    • There should not be a mechanic that can be felt as tiresome. I.e. quality of life should just be present and not require a farm session of 10 days.
    • Social; I found this really rewarding to have a nice community with teams, guilds, and general chats. Also to directly add; active moderation. Too often I see way too much trash in chats.
    • Online. I know this might be a deal-breaker for a few but I have tested various things and even though I can split offline/online functionalities, it's just way too easy for cheaters. A good part of the game will be about character, town/castle, and gear development. If there is no server-side control and checks, it just opens up for cheaters.
    • More community-driven development. I honestly feel like the community, thus the players, often know what is the best for the game. Once it hits some stage of early-alfa I would already be very much open for feedback. This would continue after the release of the game with an open form of development, priorities, and issues.
    • Zero pay2win elements. IF there would be some premium-shop, it would be purely visual. I also don't have any intentions of even creating that any time soon. One of the major reasons is that I honestly have a good life in which I have enough spare time while also being blessed with a solid income. As for any compute/cloud costs; I live in that world and I'll manage. So, let me just try to make something useful and fun. The only reason I would even consider the visual store would be to be able to pay others for their work at that time. Honestly though, this is way too early to even bother talking about...

I'm really looking forward to your thoughts about what you really like about mobile games. Also, I'm also curious about your dislikes in general so I (might) not make those mistakes. If I somewhat sparked your interest, let me know if you want updates on this project more often on Reddit.

Is S9+ still valid as a gaming device?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 05:15 PM PST

iPhone user here. Wife owns Samsung S9+. She is going to upgrade soon. Considering taking it and making it a gaming device. I would like to play some retro titles but definitely not exclusively.

So with a Razr Kishi or similar device is the S9+ still a viable option or will it just be a frustrating experience?

Star Traders - Frontiers vs RPG

    Looking for a scrolling shooter

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 02:30 PM PST

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a vertical/horizontal scrolling shooter with mechanics that could be compared to old Xenon 2 Megablast, in which you can purchase different kind of weapons to improve your spaceship. It doesn't have to necessarily be a space shooter but I think they are thw most common ones. Any suggestion? Thank you!

    Looking For A Game. Homeless.

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 05:18 PM PST

Hi. I am looking for a few different games to try. To understand some things I can only use Android. No Laptop. No Emulator. Nothing except my phone. I am also living in my car but I can have a job and get a home and an working on those things. The point in mentioning that is to get you to understand I am trying but currently can only use my phone. My phone can play any games because I actually did pay like $400 for it...

The type of game I want recommended? Well there are a few BUT please understand the games does NOT have to fit in all the categories!

Social Games: Preferably with voice chat or text chat and a world where I can be around the other players and socialize. I would prefer a game where there are enough players and decent customization on your character. I used to play VRCHAT and Second Life when I was able to use a computer. I don't like games like IMVU where you can't move freely.

Full Version SOLO Games: When I was younger I loved playing GBA Pokemon Crystal, Blue, Red, Sapphire, and all of those games. I also had Medabots and Beyblade and Final Fantasy... Those games with maybe 20 to 40 hours of gameplay. The last game I played like that on laptop was Undertale and Terraria. The last game I played like that on mobile was "7 Years From Now". I do not like huge graphics or extreme fights. So a game I can play fully by myself.

Story Story Story: For the games above the most important aspect is STORY. I would love a cool storyline but my main favorite storylines would be Romance, Bullying, Horror, Quest To Be The Best, Adventure.... Also I love characters that have meaningful story. At least Pokemon Level. Pokemon didn't have the best story but it was fun and have a decent storyline and a fun variety of Pokemon and different versions. I would prefer a game where I can be ME rather than the character. I don't like it when I play games and I am someone else unless it has an amazing storyline. I can even accept a game with only story such as a visual novel like "Her Lie I Tried To Believe"

Price: I would prefer free if possible. I can consider games that cost money as long as it is a 1 time charge and no more money needed and it has to have a low price. I understand that games like Pokemon cost like $20 or $30 back when I was a kid but they now only cost $10 but you have to have an expensive game system like a 3ds or Switch.

    Dark Mist Scoring

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 10:10 AM PST

I love this type of game, card PVE, but I have no idea how the scoring works in this game. Sometimes people have scores in the tens to hundreds of thousands. How are they doing it? If it is some type of meta gaming it seems silly.

    [REQUEST] Games with crossplatform progression?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 12:21 PM PST

Hey, I'm looking for games that have crossplatform progression, in this case between my phone and PC. I tend to travel a ton and play games on my phone while doing so, but I'd love to play something I can also play on PC with shared progress.

(I'm aware I could use Bluestacks or such to emulate android on PC and play it via that, but that's not what I'm mainly looking for)

Single/Multiplayer: Either, but (optional) multiplayer is preferred.

Genre: RPGs mostly, be it MMORPG or smaller scale. Action/fps also works.

    Online/Offline: Either.

Monetization/Cost: Either, but I could, depending on price and game, be willing to pay for something twice (say, the game on Steam and then on Google Play), as long as it features what I'm looking for.

    Portrait/Landscape: Either.

Key Features: Shared progression between platforms, in this case Android and PC.

Anyone have any experience using the razer Kishi mobile game controller for emulators?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 09:41 AM PST

Was looking at game pads, I'm specifically looking for one that plugs into my USBc on my phone rather than Bluetooth, and for use with my PS1 emulator to play a metal gear solid 1backup on my phone.

The emulator and game runs great, but when trying to use my PS4 controller via Bluetooth I get really spotty input, it seems to just stop receiving input altogether for periods of time then starts working again.

I came across the razer Kishi on sale today, and was thinking about getting it. Looks like it should work fine from the review videos I've seen, it clicks right in with Android native support and let's you browse your home screen with the controller.

Since it works for that, any emulators should be able to read the input as well and worse case scenario I'll have to manually bind each button, right?

Anyone know where I can find a game pad/phone holder that plugs into my USBc instead of using Bluetooth?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2021 09:19 AM PST

I've got a PlayStation emulator on my phone, and some other emulators, and backups of some games and my bios.

I want to play some games that really need trigger controls, like metal gear solid, but my fingers don't work like that on the touchscreen trigger controls.

I tried connecting my PS4 controller via Bluetooth, and it connects and works, but every 10 seconds or so my phone seems to just stop receiving the input, then it will just start working again.

I'm on a moto g stylus, 2021 version. I believe it's got something to do with my Bluetooth receiver on my phone, not certain, but I imagine it's designed to buffer music then stop, rather than receive constant input.

My only working solution ive found is to hardwire my PS4 controller directly into my phone with a USBC adapter I've found, and use the controller via USB instead of Bluetooth.

Is really like to be able to hold my phone though while I play it. The screens a decent size for a phone, but it's hard to find a comfortable setup to set my phone down and hold my controller, I've tried using my Chromecast to cast my phone video output to my tv, but this is results in a full 2-10 seconds of lag, despite my internet being phenomenal (100mbs+ on wifi) because iirc Chromecast goes from your phone, to a server, to the Chromecast, rather than directly from your phone to the Chromecast.

All the gamepads I can find online are Bluetooth only, and I'm not certain they would even fit my phone. I suspect that the Bluetooth issue MIGHT only be with my PS4 controller because it's Sony hardware, and that something designed for Android MIGHT work just fine, but I REALLY don't want to drop 60$ on a gamepad that won't work with my phone.

Does anyone know of any good ones with a hardwire plug in rather than Bluetooth? It wouldn't have to necessarily be a phone case game pad, I'd be happy with a gamepad that has a phone mount on it and a short wire for the USB honestly.

iPhone SE 2020 vs. REDMAGIC 6s Pro

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 08:35 PM PST

I'm looking to have better performance in RetroArch. I was made aware of this Android phone that seems to be pretty fast, but is it faster than the SE 2's A13 processor? I can run the DeSmuME core on RetroArch on my iPhone pretty well but I'd like to be able to upscale it by maybe x3 or x4 (currently can only go max to x2). I know the camera isn't as good compared to the iPhone but that doesn't matter much to me. Sorry if this seems dumb, I know nothing of Android so maybe someone could guide me in the right direction here 😊
