3 Quick Tl;Dr Android Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 191) Posted: 24 Sep 2021 05:10 AM PDT Happy Friday, everyone :) And welcome to episode 191 of my weekly mobile gaming recommendations based on the most interesting games I've played this week. Support these posts (and YouTube content + development of MiniReview) on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/NimbleThor <3 This episode includes an amazing premium brick breaker game, a down-to-earth trials bike game reminiscent of the old Flash browser games, and a huge Warhammer CCG strategy game. Disagree with my opinion? Let's have a friendly discussion below. New to these posts? Check out the first one from 191 weeks ago here. The games are "ranked" somewhat subjectively from best to worst, so take the ranking for what it is. Let's get to the games:Holedown [Game Size: 99 MB] ($3.99)Genre: Arcade / Brick Breaker / Indie - Offline Playable Orientation: Portrait Required Attention: Full tl;dr review: Holedown is a fun and highly polished brick breaker arcade game that has more strategy and depth to its gameplay than most others in the genre. Taking place in outer space, the core gameplay has us attempt to get to the very core of various planets by aiming and shooting balls from the top of the screen to destroy the blocks below. As we destroy these blocks, we gradually move deeper and deeper into the planet, which gradually increases the difficulty. To make things more interesting, some blocks are locked in place and need to be destroyed, while others disappear if we destroy the bricks underneath them. We also have limited shots per round, and limited balls per shot. Combined, these features add a bit of extra strategy to the gameplay, which I greatly enjoyed. After we either complete a planet or die trying, we can spend crystals collected through gameplay to buy upgrades that add more balls to each shot, increases how many total shots we have, enables us to reach new planets, and much more. It takes approximately six hours to complete all the planets, after which an endless mode has us compete for high-scores on the leaderboards. One of my personal favorite aspects of the game is that its charmingly simple art-style perfectly fits the minimalistic effects and cute animations to create a relaxing and warm atmosphere - something most other brick breakers don't seem to pay attention to. Holedown is a $3.99 premium game and its great gameplay experience makes it well worth the price for any fan of brick breakers – especially if you're tired of the many ad-filled low-quality games that flood the genre on mobile. Check it out on Google Play: Here Check it out on MiniReview:: Here Moto Maniac [Total Game Size: 88 MB] (free)Genre: Sports / Racing / Trial - Offline Playable Orientation: Portrait Required Attention: Full tl;dr review: Moto Maniac is a simple yet challenging 2D side-scrolling trial bike game that closely resembles the many old Flash browser games that popularized the genre. Ported from browser to mobile, the game features a series of short levels that we must attempt to complete as quickly as possible by finding the optimal way past the many extremely difficult obstacles blocking our path. Perfect balance is key to successfully climbing the obstacles, and although a single mistake means we have to restart the level, the controls work exactly as expected, with four on-screen buttons that let us accelerate, reverse, and lean back and forth. The mix of having to focus on balance while wanting to finish the level as quickly as possible creates a fun and hectic gameplay experience that repeatedly kept me coming back for just one more attempt. While the game is relatively quickly finished, the developers claim that 40 new levels will arrive soon, and if you get bored, you can always attempt to beat the highscores on the leaderboard. Moto Maniac monetizes through relatively frequent ads that can be skipped after 5 seconds. A single inexpensive $2.99 iAP completely removes these ads, however. Unlike games like Trials Frontier or Trial Xtreme 4, Moto Maniac feels much more like an old-school browser game than a mobile game filled with retention mechanics, which I'm sure many will appreciate. With both solo PvE campaigns, ranked PvP, and multiplayer PvE raids, the game features a surprising amount of content and activities. There's even a guild system that gives the game a social twist by letting us to chat with other players and participate in PvP arena battles. During a match, our goal is to get the opponent's hero down to zero health using our cards. Starting with four cards on our hand, we draw a new card on each round and can play as many cards as our stamina allows. Stamina also increases for every round, which lets us gradually play more and more cards over time. Overall, the gameplay experience isn't much unlike Hearthstone. Part of what makes combat fun is the fact that most cards have special traits in addition to their core HP and attack stats. These traits may allow them to tank incoming damage, or cause something to happen once the card is played or gets destroyed. This gives the game a truly deep level of strategy, which is great for hardcore players but may feel overwhelming to new casual players. The art style isn't super polished, and the UI feels slightly dated, which makes browsing the various menus and screens somewhat heavy and clunky. The Horus Heresy: Legions monetizes through iAPs up to $99.99 to unlock cards faster, and a pricey $4.99 weekly subscription that provides additional daily rewards. This allows paying players to progress faster. It is arguably the best Warhammer 40k card game on mobile, but players who aren't already fans of the franchise will probably have a better time playing some of the other CCGs that are easier to get into. The Titan Quest port for Android is just fantastic. Posted: 23 Sep 2021 11:51 PM PDT This is one of those games that is considered a standard for hack n slash that I ignored for years. I recently gave the PC version a try and loved it, so tried out the Android port. Wow. Super impressed by the work the port team put into it. It's so well done. If you enjoy Diablo style HnS games, this is an easy pickup for Android players. [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Sep 2021 04:20 PM PDT Hello. So I'm currently looking for a good game that can be played in portrait mode. The reason it needs to be played in portrait mode is because I like using split-screen and having Netflix/Youtube on one of the screens. That way I can watch a great show or something while relaxing with a game at the same time. So far I've found most success with: Night of the Full Moon: Although being a great and polished game that doesn't overload you with ads and paywalls. I still got tired after a few runs because I didn't feel like there was too much variety in builds. Classes seems to be locked and there doesn't seem to be too many card builds to go for. Archero (and many of its clones): Archero-type games is another one that I've found great success with. But sadly they tend to fail for one of two reasons. Either they hit a massive wall where you need to grind or pay if you want to make progress, like in Archero's case. Or there's simply a lack of content that keeps you from doing more runs, like in Wizard Legends case. Sadly the games I love all needs to be played in landscape mode, like Infinitode 2, Dungeon Maker Dark lord, Star Wars Kotor, Anima and so on and so forth. As for what type of game I'm looking for. I'd say I'm looking for something where it feels like I'm progressing in some way or another. So levels/upgrades/gear/unlocks and whatnot. Which is why games like Angry Birds for instance is a no-go. Since there's no real progression in that game. Rougelike, RPG and turn-based are my favorite genres. I don't mind paying for the game as long as it's good. [link] [comments]

This was a few years back and I still remember how much I loved the game The N.O.V.A. legacy is a piece of dog shit honestly Yet I just can't seem to get NOVA 3 anywhere Any help guys? I'm using a POCO X3 pro with MIUI 12.5.2 [link] [comments] |
