Apparently, the new Android/Google TV remote app is actually REGION LOCKED Posted: 03 Oct 2021 11:52 AM PDT ..and Google's decision to release Android TV Remote Service v5.0 which caused the old Android TV remote app to stop working was not thoughtful. As we know that Google TV app is only available in very limited countries but what i didn't expect is that even Google Play Movies & TV app is only available in selected countries(~117 countries). Due to that, Android/Google TV users that are not in supported country won't able to use the new remote app. Even though they can sideload/enable the app on their mobile but at some point it will be disabled automatically especially after reboot unlike the old remote app that can be used without any region restrictions. Another group that are also affected is iPhone/iPad users. According to Google, the new remote feature will be available via Google Home app but unfortunately till today it is still not available. WorkaroundSo for those who are affected by Android TV Remote Service v5.0 update or prefer the old remote app, you can downgrade the app to v4.7 on your Android/Google TV device: Now you can continue to use the old Android TV Remote app. [link] [comments]
What's going on with Play Next? Posted: 03 Oct 2021 09:32 PM PDT I've had my Hisense A6G for 6mos now. So far the only content showing in the play next row is Disney+. In the settings, I've chosen all apps to show their content, but nothing has changed. Has anyone had luck with anything other than Disney showing up? My CCwGTV works better, but still needs work. Age-restricted content does not play when signed in as a "Brand" account. Posted: 03 Oct 2021 06:17 PM PDT I've been using my "anonymous" brand account for a long time on all my devices. All content has always played. But on my Sony X900H TV, it just gives an error that it can't play age-restricted content. Is Google/YouTube ever going to fix this long-standing issue with Android TV? Posted: 03 Oct 2021 04:18 PM PDT I've been using Kodi on a Raspberry Pi for a few weeks and am not a fan. It's buggy, has a tacky interface, and is an absolute hassle to get normal streaming apps to work (can't even get Netflix). I'm thinking of opting for a fire stick or an Android tv box. The main things I'm looking for include: good support for common apps like Netflix, Disney+, YouTube. A remote. The ability to load unofficial apps like stremio, or even Kodi; although I said it's not great, having Kodi as an option for shows not available on the streaming services I have would be nice (also I already bought realdebrid). Good casting support. I'm very tech savy so I don't mind tinkering with the product a bit to get it to where I want. If I got a fire stick my first step would be removing all the bloatware anyways. So does Android TV fit my use case? Or should I opt for fire stick or something else? Edit: removed the link apparently that box isn't certified. I do want apps designed to work on tv Edit2: why are all the certified boxes more expensive and only 2gb ram? Why wouldn't I opt for the more powerful device that also lets me add an sd to it for more storage? [link] [comments]
Is it possible to install Minecraft on Android TV without having to use cracked APKs? Posted: 03 Oct 2021 11:10 AM PDT Some time ago I bought a MiboxS and wanted to play Minecraft, but it does not appear in the Play Store (TV), I started using APKs, but I would like to know if there is a legal way to do it. What are some of the good 55-65" AndroidTV/GoogleTV options under 600$? Posted: 03 Oct 2021 11:05 AM PDT Hey guys. I have the Hisense 50H8F that I bought about 1.5 years ago. And I have two main problems with the TV, the size and backlight performance. 50" is just small for me and local dimming on this TV sucks. It's juuustt tooooo sloooowww. I can literally SEE the white glow everywhere and I can watch it light up and dim down because it takes forever to do that (actually it takes about a second, but one second while watching movies is too noticeable). I was wondering if there were any good options for me in about 500-600$ price range with 55" or 65" size and decent local dimming capabilities (or just more dimming zones). And also, obviously, it has to be AndroidTV (or preferrable even the new GoogleTV), I cant use any other OS and that's why I am posting this here. Please help me find something. Thanks. Any effective place for AndroidTV feedback? How Android pushed me to Apple TV Posted: 03 Oct 2021 12:49 PM PDT I have a Sony A9G and I'm told by r/Bravia moderators that Sony has no control over AndroidTV pushing ads (although I'm not totally convinced). It really pisses me off I can spend thousands on a TV and must be served ads I don't want, to the point where I may not buy my favorite TV brand next time. I've gone to using my Apple TV 4K recently, after a year of being annoyed by those ads. Is there a feedback page or other place where complaints have the most likelihood of convincing Android they need to let customers opt out? I'd rather be using just the TV without a streaming box. Zank Remote Substitute For Google TV Remote? Posted: 03 Oct 2021 08:53 AM PDT The connection issues for the new Google TV remote have been driving me nuts. I found Zank Remote as an option, but didn't find anything on it here. You basically need to install this app on both your Android/Google TV device, then turn on USB debugging (still figuring out whether that should bother me), then install the app on your phone. The interface has a lot of options which I need to research more fully. Buying the ad free version costs $6. It still requires using Smart Lock, unlike the old Android Remote app. Oh, and when you install it on your phone it is called Android Remote in the apps area, not Zank . . .. Has anyone else tried/used it? Unlike the other remote apps this one does not rely on the Google remote services installed on your Google TV device, so it continues to work. [link] [comments]
