Google Duo - Workaround for kids or people without a cell number Posted: 31 Jul 2021 03:35 PM PDT I have young kids who don't have cell phones and I wanted to get them Duo accounts to use with our Nest Hub Max. While I believe it is now possible to set up a Duo account without linking a cell number if you set up the account using an Android tablet, we don't have one of those. A super simple workaround I found by chance is to simply use your own cell number when setting up their accounts. You will get the verification code and you can complete the account setup (note this will remove your cell number from your own Duo account). If you need to link their Duo account to a smart speaker or display, do that as well. Then, go back to your own Duo account and re-add your phone number. This will pull it from the kids' accounts and reconnect it with your own account. However their Duo accounts, now tied only to their email addresses, will continue to function and be searchable. Hope this is helpful to some people. [link] [comments]

Android 10 Bluetooth Cutting Out Definitive Fix 2021 Posted: 01 Aug 2021 02:18 AM PDT THE PROBLEMThis problem first occured as early as 2017 and seems to have resurfaced with the Android 10 update June 2020. I searched everywhere for a definitive fix but everyone seemed to be talking about fixes for phones I didn't have. For context I have had this problem with both Moto G 5 Plus and my newly purchased Moto G 8 Power 2020. To be clear this is a problem that effects ALL different Android phones not just Motos. The two problems caused was bluetooth cutting out when playing any online audio in particular with Spotify and my Moto G 8 Power frequently restarting on its own. Playing audio stored on my phone via bluetooth resulted in no stuttering so I knew it was a connection issue. The source of the problem is down to when the network switches automatically which frequently causes connectivity problems with online applications. THE FIXGo to your phone settings. Find 'Mobile Network/s' (mine is under 'Network & Internet'). Scroll down to open advanced settings. Under 'Network' deselect 'Automatically select network', it should trigger a list of the available networks to come up. Choose which one you want to use. (You might get a push notification error saying the selected network is unavailable, if this happens restart your phone and try again, this fixed it for me). If you are still having connection problems after this, I suggest setting your 'Preferred Network Type' so it only has one option to choose from e.g. from '4G/3G/2G' to '3G only'. That should fix both the constant restarts and any bluetooth connectivity problems you're experiencing. If this helped you, please leave a comment below so this fix gets shared to those that need it. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Phones displays are getting too tall and narrow? Posted: 31 Jul 2021 08:20 AM PDT I couldn't find any discussion on this topic and wanted to make a post to see if I was the odd one out or if others had similar views. I used to have a Xiaomi Mi Max 3 which was perfect for watching YouTube, the video took up the entire 6.9 inch screen. I was looking for an upgrade and all the new phones a stupidly tall and narrow at aspect ratios around 21:9... Surely watching YouTube as an use case take precedence over watching movies on Netflix? Now when I watch YouTube on the new phone there are massive black bars on the left and right, a waste of screen space. I can't understand why anyone would watch movies on a tiny smartphone in the first place, even if it is 21:9, it's hardly a cinematic experience.. [link] [comments]
Are Chinese phones untrustworthy? Posted: 31 Jul 2021 11:35 AM PDT A news article came out in my country (Belgium) about our version of the NSA warning people that Chinese phones might be used for espionage. Should government officials or corporations stay away from using brands like Oppo, OnePlus or Huawei? How does data collection from Chinese companies differ from say Google or Apple?
