How will we be able to stay online while on the phone when 3G will be shut down?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 04:55 AM PDT

I don't know if this is the right sub so I'm sorry, anyway I've seen many Android phones (maybe it happens also on iPhone but I don't know) that can't stay connected to 4G when there is an ongoing traditional phone call. For instance right now I'm under 4G+ network but if I start a call it switches to H+. Problem is, with 5G networks on their way, 3G will be no longer profitable for carriers and they will shut it down (for example in Italy this will happen in two or three years). With that being said, do you think this is a carrier limitation that will be lifted or it is something phones just can't do and so if you have a "old" phone (mine is a Xiaomi mi9) you won't be able to connect while on the phone. It's not a real problem I know I'm just curious.

My charger and both of my parents' chargers all broke in unison.

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 09:47 AM PDT

My phone is a Motorola G7 supra and both of my parents have a Galaxy S8. For all of our devices, we need to have the charger cable at a specific angle. Otherwise, there is no charge given. This is a phone issue and not a charger issue, as we have tried many different cables for each phone. Is this a coincidence that requires a hardware change or is there a different solution?

    Samsung N10 Duplicating Threads

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 11:38 AM PDT

I just got a Samsung N10. If I leave a message as a draft and come back to it later, it will send the message in its own thread, and then any further messages (sent or received) show up in a different thread. Anyone know why this happens?

    Phone keeps on restarting

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 11:34 AM PDT

Hello! So like the title says my phone restarts randomly, I did a malware and virus scan both came out clean. I also contacted support and looked online and tried all the solutions (even factory reset) the problem still persisted. I also doubt it's a hardware problem my phone is basically in "new condition" still

Thing is I have modded apps downloaded but I doubt that's the problem (because the modder is trustworthy ) but who knows it could be, another thing is my phone restarts usually once a day but the whole day yesterday I chose to go to safe mode (disabling all the apps) and it didn't restart not once, so that makes me think it is one of the apps that is doing it some how ? (which I don't even understand since I did the security tests and what-not) so I was wondering if there is a way to find what exactly the problem is and how to solve it hopefully?

FYI: my battery is in good health. My phone is a One Plus 7 pro GM1917. Latest OS which is 11.0.2 Also I don't know if this could help or not but when the phone restarts it doesn't say "restarting" (like when I manually do it) it just straight up goes to the the screen after it which is the One Plus loading screen, to boot up the phone. I can't remember exactly when the problem started but I wanna say like 2 months ago (I got my phone in late September 2019)

    Thanks in advance

Possible to prevent phone from being shutdown while locked?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 11:32 AM PDT

I've been searching around the web (doesn't necessarily have to be an app just a tweak or something alike) that prevents the phone from being shutdown while it's locked/on lockscreen. I've only found posts from years ago and those apps does not seem to work anymore.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (not rooted, but I can root it if necessary, but I'd like to avoid it) and I'm on Android 11.

Thank you and have a great day!

How do the 'moisture detected' errors work? Where are they sourced from?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 07:38 AM PDT

Galaxy S10 5G. Port is completely clean. Is it a dedicated sensor or what does it look for? Trying to disable it, it's been giving this warning for a week and a half.

Already tried the software advice that's usually given. Cleared cache in the BIOS, USB memory and cache, tried safe mode. Does not seem to be in software. Cleaned out port with a plastic toothpick and then with freshwater and 90% isopropyl alcohol.

I can't crack the thing open because I'm not really comfortable taking a lighter to my mobile phone. What do?

Will restoring from a Google Drive backup bring with it potential software issues?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 10:26 AM PDT

I got a new Samsung Galaxy S21 two months ago. Last week it got stuck in a boot loop and would not boot past the Samsung logo. I tried clearing the cache and a full factory reset but neither fixed the problem at all. In the logs of the android recovery screen, it mentioned having trouble mounting the SD card. I suspect this is probably a hardware issue because the factory reset did not change anything (but I'm not an expert!)

My carrier is sending me a new one, if I restore this new phone from my Google Drive backup, do I risk transferring any possible software issues along with it?

Do I want a smart watch? Headphones?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 10:16 AM PDT

I go on walks and listen to talks on my phone. Problem is sometimes I need to go back 5 or 10seconds or pause

Someone said bluetooth headphones often have buttons and I might be able to find a solution with that. I remember someone else telling me they can tap their smartwatch to tell their phone stuff. Is there anything I can buy that'll let me jump back a few seconds with my phone screen off? I generally leave my phone in my pocket and another alternative is to make the volume keys do things instead of raise/lower volume while screen is off but IDK how to change that or if it's possible

    Utilities/Applications for Basic Assistance Virtually

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 10:05 AM PDT

I am trying to help my mother with her first smartphone, a Motorola that is very similar, but not identical, to my Pixel. I was wondering if there was any utility online that could "virtualize" her version of Android on my home PC so I could more easily walk her through basic, basic app use.

Or alternatively does anyone have advice for helping the elderly adapt to smartphones? She has had a Kindle Fire for awhile now, and while she's not very good at anything besides accessing the few things apps she uses, I really assumed that this transition would be easier at this point, but I am really starting to lose patience with myself when trying to explain what ought to be simple ideas in the basic phone app.

Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 app is not working on a degoogled phone

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 06:17 AM PDT

I degoogled my phone and now the cloudflare app is not working.

Is there a way to make it work?

The app basically let's you use cloudflares DNS service but it also creates something called a "VPN tunnel" I think , this helps in unblocking censored sites without vpn. (This can't be done through private DNS)

Is there a way to do this without the app?

Any emulator or hypervisor with OpenGL support?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 09:47 AM PDT

There's a Java game I want to run, it was made with JavaFX. The developers said they will never port it to Android. I tried to install Java in this hypervisor and the game complains about my system not supporting GLX, which found out was actually OpenGL-related. So I gave up with that hypervisor, and asked the devs about any hypervisor or emulator with OpenGL support. They instead told me why the game won't be ported to Android, and did not like how hard I tried to get the game running on Android. I asked somewhere else, and they told me to just stream it or port it myself. I can't do either of those things, because I a, usually don't have access to my computer in the first place, and b, there is no silver magic rosetta stone that allows you to port Java to Android with ease.

So, is there any emulated environment that supports OpenGL? The game I'm trying to run is Lilith's Throne.

Purging work software from personal phone

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 03:15 AM PDT

    Hi

So I'm leaving a company and I'm in the unfortunate position where I had to use my personal phone as a work phone. I'm trying to purge my phone of all company software and I've done a factory reset on the phone but when I look at the 'Apps' section of my phone, I can still see an app call 'work profile' which basically has all permissions. I can't seem to change any permissions nor delete this app and I'm pretty sure it was put there by the IT department. Is there anyway to delete this 'work profile' do you know what sort of information it still has access to? I have a Galaxy s9. Previously, the only known work software that I had on my phone was Microsoft Exchange Sync which I allowed access via the Samsung 'Email' app. I've since removed that access. It was just used for receiving and sending emails on my phone.

    Thanks!

    Google duo contact messed up

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 08:23 AM PDT

My kids have Android devices without sim cards. They use them on wifi only.

Somehow, their Google duo profiles appear as their grandmother when they contact me on duo. The grandmother does not use duo at all, and her contact profile in my phone shows her actual phone number, but no other information related to my children's devices.

I suspect that they have signed into their grandmother's service using their Google id, and now Google is associating their Duo account with the grandmother's phone.

Grandma lives far away. How can I stop Duo from showing messages from their phones as their grandmother?

Battery Charging file for Huawei Honor 8 | or other ways to auto-boot when it is plugged in

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 07:46 AM PDT

    Hello guys,

I'm searching for the "Battery charging animation file" which is run when the phone is turned off and gets powered. For other phones it is called something like "lpm" under the path "/system/bin". Does anyone know how it is called at a Huawei Honor 8?

here are all the files in my /system/bin folder (extracted by ls command in adb): https://pastebin.com/6dXHpVqE

I'm searching for this file because I want to edit it so that my phone will boot automatically as soon as it is plugged in (described here: https://youtu.be/QBKD068VIjE or here: https://www.instructables.com/AutoBoot-Android-When-Charger-Connected/ ) because I want to use it as an In-PC-Ressource-Monitor.

I would also be open for other ways to let it autoboot when it gets powered.

    Thank you guys in advance!

Is there a One UI equivalent for "Wifi Multi/Broadcasting filter" option in One Plus?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 06:38 AM PDT

    Hi,
I have seen many One Plus users say that this "Wifi Multi/Broadcasting filter" option helps to save battery.
I am a Samsung user, and I was wondering whether there is an option in One UI with the same functionality? perhaps it's under a different name?

BlueMail suddenly not syncing on Moto G8 Power Lite

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 05:46 AM PDT

I've had the BlueMail app on my current phone for a while now, somehow got through the IMAP/POP stuff at the start when setting it up, and it's worked fine ever since. I've been using the app for years and years, with previous phones. I check my emails pretty much daily with no problems.

However, today it's not syncing at all for some reason. Nothing has changed, my end. WiFi is good and strong, have turned off WiFi on phone to switch to data, I've restarted my phone, not sure what else to do because I haven't changed anything for it to come up with the error message:

'Sync failed, your username or password may be incorrect (3010) Email server returned: "NO [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED], Authentication failed." '

Any ideas or suggestions would be great, thanks.

    Wanting to upgrade phone soon

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 05:30 AM PDT

I currently have a galaxy s10e, on a plan finishing on the 10th of this month. I am not sure which to upgrade to, I didn't want to go with the s21 ultra because I'm stuck with the exynos (yay Australia) but it's looking like that will still be option number 1, as for a 2nd option I was thinking of the Find X3 Pro, mainly because it was the only other phone I could get on a plan that was Snapdragon.
When it comes to using the phones I play plenty of games (aswell as emulators) which I know even the exynos would be more than fine with!
As for cameras, photos aren't a huge deal for me but I do use video quite regularly in a bedroom for streaming and drum covers, which the s10e has struggled with actually (lots of noise even with lights on)
For battery, the longer the better but i would assume they both would do fine in a normal day to day.

If anyone here has used either or both I'd love some advice between then from you!

hi all bought an oppo A74 5G recently - Using colorOS 11 with lock screen pattern but there doesn't seem to be any option to hide the pattern when you input it as every other android I've ever seen does.

Does anyone have a fix / workaround?

    Nova launcher installed.

Google Pixel 2XL shutting off when charging/shutting off randomly

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 04:40 AM PDT

Hello all! I bought a refurbished Pixel 2XL off Amazon a few years ago.. it worked great until about a week ago! It would randomly start shutting off when I plugged in the charger, randomly shut down while using.. sometimes it comes right back on, but other times it takes 5-10 tries before it will boot back up. Is this the beginning of the end?

Is there any way to reduce the power ads have over my phone?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 04:37 AM PDT

Looking for settings that stop the ads from going full screen and being able to hide my home bar (I've got a Samsung S20) so I can't back out of the ad. Also looking to stop the ads from playing music and pausing my own.

Very much a minor gripe but infuriates me anyway.
