Posted: 10 Aug 2021 09:21 PM PDT So its been about 1 and half month since i switched to pixel 5 from galaxy s9. I really really like the phone and its expected general animation fluidity over the s9. But there are many features that are just missing in stock android that just grind my gears and make me grit my teeth, like why is google also not working on these small things in addition to system wide material ui or themes. (Also fyi im on android 11 so idk if they added these features in android 12 beta) So here is the list of missing features in stock android that i came across:- No App lock : Ok this one was the thing that surprised me most cause its 2021 and almost every smartphone brand under the sun got this feature. How come stock android doesnt have app lock?? Seriously with all the privacy stuff Google focuses on this is like base starter pack feature you should be adding in the android. No System wide Equalizer : There is no system wide equalizer and the stock equalizer that u need to tinker with by opening each audio playing app is just bad imo. Samsung had a great one where u can adjust the bass and treble for the casuals and you can obviously go for advanced individual hz slider. Google just need to copy that if they can cause it works perfectly. No Dual app audio : In Samsung they have an option where u can select an app where audio will keep playing along with the app you are watching something on like twitter or chrome. For me its Spotify as i like to listen to songs and also watch youtube with just captions on. No individual app volume adjuster : Cant lower or mute the volume of single app cause i dont ever want them to play sound or just want to lower the specific app volume No Folder Hide option in Photos app : Cant hide folders and i know the photos app does have photo lock Utility but it only saves individual photos and not folders. I want to hide a folder in photos app and still want the ability to save photos in the hidden or locked folder. These are the things that i have come across that bugged me and i hopefully dont run into more things like this. And hopefully Google ads these and more QoL features in android 12. [Also i wanted it to title this something like "How stock android made me appreciate Samsungs One UI more." But that kinda sounded way too dramatic🗿] [link] [comments]

Is this the year of the foldables? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 12:37 PM PDT With only a day to go until the Samsung event, we don't have long left until the new foldables are revealed. Up until now, I have not been that interested in foldables but the Samsung Z Fold 3 is shaping up to be a hit. If the new Z Fold 3 ticks a lot of the boxes, I'm thinking of trading in my S21 Ultra, selling my iPad Pro and buying the Fold. With Apple seeming to miss the mark every year with the OS on the iPads, the Fold will fill the gap of big screen entertainment and is the closest I can get to a decent Android tablet experience. I've really enjoyed using my S21 Ultra and is by far the best phone I've ever used. I'm unsure of the jump to the foldable future. What are your opinions? Has anyone been using a foldable and if so, how has it been to switch? [link] [comments]
Google Now is back! Kind of at least. Posted: 10 Aug 2021 04:06 AM PDT https://i.imgur.com/XmQg3ap.jpg This change in Google assistant I just noticed allows you to select lens which scans your screen for related information, copy text etc, rather than opening the camera app to use Lens. I am not sure how I feel about this since some info is harder to find compared to the "what's on my screen" option, but I am definitely glad to have back an easy way to copy text from the screen. Importance of the balance between Processor/Graphich Card and RAM/Memory. (Or Hardware in General) Posted: 10 Aug 2021 11:04 PM PDT I always been affascinated about Hardware, being both PC or Smartphones, but I never been truly able to discern when Option A is better than Option B if it's too close. With the influx of all the Redmi/Realme/Poco/Honor/Oppo Phones we have so much choices with different but similar Hardware that is starting to be difficult to understand or choose your Phone. When is better more RAM? When is better having just a little better Processor? When is better to go with UFS 2.2 at the cost of something else? I love all that diversity, but sometimes it looks like a curse... Since is always a War of Compromise, what was one of your hardest choice? A lot of people since it's their passion just try everything they like, but not everyone have that luxury. To make it hard, if for example you needed to choose between a Dimensity 700 with 6GB RAM and UFS 2.1 or a Dimensity 800U with 4GB RAM and UFS 2.2... What would you choose? When something cross the line of being "More Worth it"? [link] [comments] |
