Android Questions: Anyone switch from Apple to Android lately?

Anyone switch from Apple to Android lately?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 05:47 AM PDT

I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to post this here, but anyway, I've been a lifelong Apple fanboy. Had every iPhone since the iPhone 5 and I've also had a few MacBooks and Apple Watches. Currently have an iPhone 11 and just got rid of my 16" MacBook Pro and Apple Watch 5.

Well lately, I've been getting more and more interested in Androids. The S21 Ultra is what I'm looking at specifically, I've been watching videos on it and it just looks like a good phone.

I have a few questions before I switch over though, so if you have an answer to any of the following or any input in general, please feel free.

What's the hardest part about switching from iPhone to android?

What is your least favorite thing about Android OS?

    Your favorite?

How is the ecosystem, not compared to apples but on its own. Is there any cool things they can do with PCs like texting?

How is app development on them compared to Apple?

How are the Android accessories? I.e earbuds, watches, etc.

Help! Updated my S10+ from One UI 2.5 to 3.1 and am convinced the camera performs worse now. Is there anyone here who can compare versions?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 05:46 AM PDT

I'd heard on a forum post a while back that the samsung one ui 3 updates made the camera perform worse, however I thought surely that can't be true. Well I just updated (why I don't know since I was happy on 2.5) and tested out the camera straight away. Annoyingly since I have no s10 running 2.5 I cannot compare, but the nightmode shots I took were, honestly? Awful. Very obvious smoothing, blurry patches and bad AI stitching. Not to mention that of two identical shots of my kitchen area, the nightmode shot was flat, over processed and had almost a completely different colour pallet.

I am convinced that 2.5 would have produced better results, not to mention the fact that I have to wait whilst the phone processes the picture in front of me when I open it in gallery.. What the hell? On 2.5 it was instantly there, what's changed??

Anyway, if anyone has two s10s running both versions, would you be able to test some bright shots as well as some darker stuff with nighmode to see just how much the camera has changed?

    Many thanks!

    How to fix automatic rebooting?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 04:57 AM PDT

I have a Redmi 6 with a custom rom slapped on it (Nusantara Project, Android 10) and it sometimes reboots for no reason like 2 or 3 times a day

After it rebootes I have to manually reboot again because it doesn't detect SIM, storage and camera (and God knows what else lol). Not very sure what could cause this, should I flash the ROM on a different vendor?

Note: It happens randomly. It can be laying on my desk not being used and it can still reboot for no reason.

Anyway to have photos auto backup to external drives when plugged into an Android device?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 11:38 AM PDT

After Google Photos got rid of their free unlimited storage I've been exploring new options, and more notably, hardware backups. I like the convivence of the cloud but only because I can easily download any pictures stored to my computer, but with an external drive I can just plug it into my computer and access them easily. My phone has enough space so I'm not too worried about offloading the storage, just being able to have copies and an easy, hassle free transfer. I saw an ad about Seagate's new drives which do this which inspired this new thought, but was wondering if there was a way to do with traditional storage drives (as you pay a bit of a premium for that feature with Seagate's option.) If I can't find anything I need, I'll probably look into it but I'm not trying to spend too much money for the time being.

    ErrorCode 70

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 05:06 AM PDT

I was wondering if there is a list of all known error codes an app may have when running on Android? I'm trying to start an app on basically any emulator besides BlueStacks and they mostly come up with the following error on adb log. Basically you would try to start the app, it opens for one second then crashes immediately after:

    06-02 06:34:04.376 3939 3939 E error : ErrorCode = 70 06-02 06:34:04.376 3939 3939 E error : 2021/06/02 06:33:57 06-02 06:34:04.376 3939 3939 E error : com.square_enix.android_googleplay.octopathj 06-02 06:34:04.376 3939 3939 E error : asus 06-02 06:34:04.376 3939 3939 E error : ASUS_Z01QD 06-02 06:34:04.376 3939 3939 E error : 7.1.2 06-02 06:34:04.376 3939 3939 E error : 004c4b40-01346351-0639d5e6 06-02 06:34:04.376 3939 3939 E error : abd0b0f4-b553c093-e641ab56 06-02 06:34:04.376 3939 3939 E error : 01724ea6-4492b2bd-09c73c68 06-02 06:34:04.376 3939 3939 E error : 6b1f0bf1-9edeee7f-9388d0d4 06-02 06:34:04.376 3939 3939 E error : 68a7b30c-2e011536-dfecf836 06-02 06:34:04.376 3939 3939 E error : 13acdac4-0856bd19-dd759f51 06-02 06:34:04.376 3939 3939 E error : a2cf017b-54bae47b-887ac709

Some articles mention that error code 70 means system partition is full, but some how I don't think it's the case here. Appreciate any insight, thanks!

Any way to block incoming Bluetooth pairing requests?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 08:30 AM PDT

This is driving me insane. I keep getting Bluetooth pairing requests from somewhere (maybe a neighbor??) and I can't find a setting that would allow me to either go invisible or just block the incoming requests to pair. I don't want to turn off Bluetooth because I have I am using it with my headphones.

I'm thinking I have to be missing a setting that woulf allow me to block it. Because my phone is too annoying to use at this point and this seems like it would be a common problem, especially for people that live in apartment complexes.

Alternative to Dex/Connecting phone with HDMI over OTG

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 12:08 PM PDT

    Hi,

so I am currently interested in the question, if there's actually an alternative, that's existing to Samsung Dex, thats normally known for connecting your phone via HDMI to an external monitor, also over OTG not wirelessly.

What I've firstly tried: Connecting my Motorola G8 Power to my Philips 245B1/00 external monitor, didn't work, then I maybe thought, the reason it didn't worked, so I truied plugging t into my TV, with the same results.

I also tried connecting an Galaxy A without Dex capabilities, via this HDMI OTG adapter. The same results appeared and I asked myself, if the higher Galaxy S Class from Samsung is actually capable, of doing this with an certain android device driver, because an better explanation wasn't any far thinkable of mine.

My last try based on installing an APK of Dex, didn't work too, because support for the devices out of the Samsung Eco System wasn't existing.

I am using an adapter from QGeeM, with 5 ports (USB 2.0 & 3.0, microSD and SD Card Reader) over USB-C.

Has someone deeply experience about android, or does know an actually working app, that enables such an function? Is rooting the device actually needed for this progress?

I am thanking for any help in advance.

Samsung S10 Lock Screen Music Issue

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 11:24 AM PDT

I recently got a new Samsung S10 as my old one broke. It works perfectly fine, but there is a new weird issue that I didn't have on my old one. Whenever I am listening to Spotify, and my phone is locked, at random times it makes a system noise and then either pauses my music, skips a few songs, or reads off the time and tells me I have a notification notification when i don't. I have text to speech assistance turned off as well as Bixby and Google assistant turned off. Any help would be much appreciated.

Google Messages Not Pairing to PC via QR Code

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 11:12 AM PDT

I have the Google Messages app installed on my PC (also tried this via the browser version), but after I successfully scan the QR phone via the Device Pairing option in the Messages app on my phone nothing happens on my PC. I get the "You're all set!" text on my phone, but nothing happens on the PC side. My phone even lists my computer as being paired.

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Messages app on my PC, disabling Adblock on the Messages app, force stopping and clearing the cache for the Messages phone app, restarting my PC, and clearing my cookies/cache from Chrome but nothing so far has worked.

    entry in google's "my activity"

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 10:57 AM PDT

hi, everyone. in google's "my activity," i can see an entry reflecting that an incoming call came in on my android at 9:57. immediately after that entry there's another entry stating "used google drive," also at 9:57. i'm wondering if the "used google drive" entry necessarily means that a *human* used google drive then or whether somehow that entry could show up / be logged by google *automatically* for some reason (by virtue of the incoming call, for example?). any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Problem with google maps navigation voice changing in mid sentence

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 06:53 AM PDT

This is mainly about google maps navigation as II don't know if this is a problem with all assistant voices. The navigation assistant's voice will not stay on purple as I selected. It will change from purple to a male voice in one sentence. I have gone to maps->Navigation Settings->Google Assistant Settings->Assistant Voice and selected Purple. However, when I am using it, it will fluctuate between what seems like random voices or a male voice. I'll try Cyan to see if maybe it's a problem with Purple. Anyone having this issue? I am on Android 10/MotoG Power unlocked.

Any solution Thanks in advance 😊

    Sound stopped working

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 10:29 AM PDT

I have a xiaomi mi10t pro but apps kept crashing and it kept rebooting itself. After a while my sound stopped working. Me being out of options factory reset my phone and it started working again. After a couple days however my sound doesn't work at all. It came back once after a system update but disappeared again a day later.

I don't believe it's an hardware update because it will connect to my bluetooth headphones, but not emit any sound.

Let me know if anybody knows the solution or had the same problem. I'd love to not send it to xiaomi as it would take 2 weeks to get repaired.

Battery drain issues even after factory reset

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 10:23 AM PDT

My partner and I each have identical pixel 3A phones. Both are running the latest version of Android and all apps are updated on both. About a week ago my phone started draining twice as fast as it used to even with the screen off. Hers drains at a reasonable rate. Mine, even after a reset and removing nearly all apps, and turning off all background battery activity in practically every app, Wi-Fi off and battery saver on I still lose 60% while out on a walk for 3 hours doing nothing but listening to Spotify on my Bluetooth headphones. Only turning on the screen every now and then and barely that while she can use hers a lot more with no battery saver and light mode and brightness higher than mine. She's also running the Instagram and Facebook apps, along with loads of other apps without ever worrying about the permissions while I've gone through all of mine and have barely given any location access.

The only apps that I installed after a reset signal messenger, Google voice, brave instead of Chrome, spotify, outlook, Amazon shopping, and the WearOS app. The latter is the only app I have that she doesn't and I have a smartwatch, but I tried unpairing and deleting the app a couple days ago and I still experienced just as much drain. Oh, I did install rif which she doesn't have but it doesn't seem to be using any more battery than it should, especially since I turned off all background activity.

I've gone through every tutorial I can find online for both minimizing battery usage and also identifying the problem and nothing seems to stand out. I did install accubattery a few days ago and it says that my battery health is good but I don't know if there are other metrics in there that I'm misreading.

What's left to diagnose my issue? It's going through the battery as fast when the screen is off as when it's on so it seems like something is keeping the phone awake but I can't find out what. I'm not rooted.

I am not familiar with Samsung phones. What are "Broadcast channel" and "Protected Management Frames" options in the hotspot settings of Galaxy A21s?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 10:20 AM PDT

Options displayed in this video at 1:01: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=61&v=bp6OUWKndOo

I doesn't seem that "Broadcast channel" is actually for limiting the number of devices that can connect to the hotspot as the video suggests.

Help getting into Outlook email on phone - Working fine on PC- Won't accept correct password. Thx

It is working on my PC. Also, I figured the app was probably the old version and went to delete/update it and it won't let me. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Trouble getting into a locked journal

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 09:54 AM PDT

Hi all. I'm posting here in hopes someone might be able to help me find a way to reset my password for a specific app on the Kindle Fire (or find a keychain where I can see the password).

The Fire is old (probably 5+ years). I haven't used it in a very long time, but I used to keep a dream journal on the Handy Note Pro app. There's 38 journals in the folder, however they're all locked in it. I thought I knew the password, but turns out absolutely nothing is working. FAQ told me the password is stored on the device (so the developers can't reset it themselves). I'm trying to find a way to get to it (or just guess a billion more times...).

Any help is appreciated. I just want to recover those dream journals; they're important to my projects.

No notifications (Samsung S21 Android 11)

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 06:02 AM PDT

Hi everyone. The last week or so has been a struggle with receiving notifications.

Text messages go through fine and display a notification right away. Other apps like email, social media and messaging apps simply don't give out notifications unless I specifically open them up (a messaging app sort of tries to "catch up" and gives a barrage of all notifications).

Would greatly appreciate any feedback or input. Running on the latest firmware update. Phone is not on do not disturb or any easy solution like that unfortunately, and notifications are allowed for the apps which struggle to push them out.

Disable keyboard remembering stuff in incognito mode

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 12:07 AM PDT

Is there a way to force the Android Keyboard to stop remembering stuff when I'm in an incognito window? It kind of defeats the purpose if the cops can still make the connections through my keyboard info. I know some people will talk about the keyboard not having any clue whether I'm in a private or normal window, but this is SOFTWARE we are talking about. Surely such a feature can be implemented?

Solution to remotely administrate Android phone?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 04:50 AM PDT

    Hello everybody,

I'm having this situation that I cannot seem to solve on my own:

I have 3 (old and tech challenged) family members with Android phones that need help with administrating their phones. At the moment I am using TeamViewer to remotely connect to these phones every few weeks and check the status. I am mostly interested about updating the apps (for whatever reason they are not getting automatically updated), but also update the OS, move files from phone to SD card, etc.

Problem is that sometimes, for one reason or another, these guys are bothered by these activities.

So is there any Android remote admin solution that would allow me to trigger Play Store app updates without bothering the user? Any extra administrative capabilities would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks!

PS: A free solution would be preferable.

HELP: Samsung S7 frozen and won't respond to any input

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 08:30 AM PDT

Hi Reddit, I've got a bit of a problem here.

I have a Samsung S7 here that's frozen on a black screen and won't respond to any form of input. I've tried to hold down the power button + the volume down button, I've tried holding down the power button+ home button + volume up button... and I still get no response from the phone.

The only reason I know the phone still has power is cause it still has a notification - it still has a blinking blue LED.

I tried charging it for a bit, hoping that maybe the battery was a bit flat, but this didn't help either.

Is there something I missed? Is there a fix to this, or should I let the battery run out and try to charge it then?
