Sunday Rant/Rage (May 23 2021) - Your weekly complaint thread! Posted: 23 May 2021 05:00 AM PDT Note 1. Join our IRC, and Telegram chat-rooms! Please see our wiki for instructions. This weekly Sunday thread is for you to let off some steam and speak out about whatever complaint you might have about:
Rules 1) Please do not target any individuals or try to name/shame any individual. If you hate Google/Samsung/HTC etc. for one thing that is fine, but do not be rude to an individual app developer. 2) If you have a suggestion to solve another user's issue, please leave a comment but be sure it's constructive! We do not want any flame-wars. 3) Be respectful of other's opinions. Even if you feel that somebody is "wrong" you don't have to go out of your way to prove them wrong. Disagree politely, and move on. [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 May 2021 09:58 AM PDT Hey I'm new to using Reddit but I just want add my two cents about the Android 12 beta. I'm currently using the Pixel 3 XL to test run the beta but I'm likely what I see so far and these are just my thoughts on what I've seen at this point. Disclaimer: I do not know anything about UI designing and the process or how long it takes these are just my two cents of suggestions on what I'd like to see in the future of android hopefully someone at Google could see by us spreading our ideas as well. I'm also open for any corrections along the way because as I said I know nothing on UI designing. Material You: I like the whole new design we've seen so far as it reminds me kind of the old days with blackberry when you could theme your phone to how ever you want it to look (guess history repeats itself) and it gives more options for what android is good at... customization. My only concern is now that they don't have that OLED black dark mode that they can bring it back through an "true black" option or at least give us the option through battery saver. Blur: The way they talked during the keynote about blur felt like they wanted to bring it back without ppl thinking they copied it from iOS. Thing about that is operating systems of today basically do the same things in terms of usability and the only difference is their vision on how they want the os to operate with their ecosystem. That said I think it shouldn't matter if one company copies from another because we're already heading to a future where everything runs one os(what will that os be...idk). But I do know if Android's future is going away from shadows.... They should at least slap some blur on the transparent notifications and notifications panel to give the os some more depth to the current look of things. Also add it as an option (or not according to device specs) to take it away if the CPU/GPU can't run android as smoothly as they want and save power consumption. Quick settings: I think half of us can agree that the QS panel is a bit big but also they hold lots of useful information. They are great for wifi and Bluetooth settings and maybe some others that need to show that information but something like flashlight or mobile data I don't think there's a need for such big toggles, that's just a poor use of space. What I'd prefer is a mixture of the two wifi and Bluetooth and other information tiles are big while the others are small or at least give us the option to customize the toggles according to a grid based on how we want them to be. I loved what I saw in the concept video on Front Page Tech (link: https://youtu.be/GYRd8v2eRAA ) but that wasn't shown but hopes up. Also I know it's not a biggie but a sound bar in the QS would be nice as well for those times you feel lazy to reach for the volume rocker plus it's on screen ;) Another change I'd like to see to the QS is if they could be separate from the notifications panel for those times when you want to screen record without showing everyone your message (plus a nice add to privacy) idk if it's a must for now but should at least be added in future build of android... Where as on the left side (where the notification icons) would bring down notifications and the right side (wifi, Bluetooth and battery) would bring don't quick settings ...like on older custom android ROMs back in the day(maybe they got some now idk just would be a nice touch to stock android) Navigation Bar: Since gestures are the future and that's where we're heading it would be lovely to implement the nav bar right for the current form factors we have with curved screen. It still being black and white and not transparent to show the curves makes it slightly annoying sometimes to the eye. Also the handle for gestures could be slightly thicker on the eyes (not a must) Easy of Use: This one is not a biggie or necessity but would be a really nice touch for users coming from iOS and just want simple. They could be an option to pick in the set up process to choose an Easy mode where the os is just straight forward and easy to use where the automatic wallpaper color picker would come into use and all apps are at the front and centre one tap to use. Don't have to be side to side like Apple...could be a beautiful vertical scrolling home page done right or some other form of design with easy use. Also a theme store, knowing some of us are going to love deep diving into the customization options others will just want things to be automatic and straight forward. And for times where we got the wall paper we want but not the colors we can just change the colors. But if we can have a theme store for others who don't want to go through all of that customization they can just go on the store and see or download other creators designs. Overall: I think we all just want a smoother android experience in general where scrolling sometimes didn't feel as breezy as it does on iOS or windows phone (when they had). And animations we can use without having to turn on developer options and tapping 0.5x just to get android to feel faster. If we could achieve this and what I said earlier I think Android could be an amazing os. Again these are just my two cents which was a lot lol..feel free correct me on any knowledge I didn't know or you can add your two cents as well..I know some may like and others maybe dislike but we are the ppl and our voices matter... Forgive any typos ;) [link] [comments]
