[DEV] Insanium: old school real-time strategy game based on John Heap's 'Alien' game from 1982

[DEV] Insanium: old school real-time strategy game based on John Heap's 'Alien' game from 1982

Long story short; I just finished my degree in Cartoon and Comic Art. While there, a friend of mine called Joe created a comic about a mutant ape going psycho on a spaceship that was so ill-advised, so senseless, with plot-holes so wide I became an instant fan. I told him when the course was over, I'd make a game out of it.

Came the day, I remembered how much I used to enjoy playing 'Alien' by John Heap for the Spectrum 48K.

The rest, while perhaps not history, certainly happened. Please try it out if you like retro pixel strategy games!

What are your redflags / instant turnoffs in games?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 02:28 PM PST

I was wondering what you guys are keeping an eye on when previewing or starting to play a game that could help you spare some time with the flood of crap and p2w in the store?

For me it means goodbye as soon as I see any form of Star levels for your characters/cards/equipments, etc. The exponential growth of the requirements for an upgrade almost always end in the need of spending a lot of money to keep up.

I also deinstall all games that have some sort of VIP system.

    What are your red flags?

I came across this game like a week ago, and I've been hooked with the mechanics and the community since day 1.

There are seven castles, each castle has an academy in which you learn from scratch what to do, and how to do it appropriately. I am part of 🐉Dragonscale Castle, and we have academies in English and Spanish, both have tutors and guides that have extensive knowledge of the game, and so far I have asked a ton of things, and never have I felt bad received, or been ignored not even once.

Every eight hours there is a clash between castles, and while you wait you can go on quests to level up, make money and get resources. One of those activities is Arena, where you can fight with other players either actively or passively. In active fights you choose to hit the head, the body or the legs, and then you choose which one of the three parts of your body you want to defend, when one of the opponents reaches zero health points, the fight ends.

When you reach level 10 you choose from two basic classes, esquire or master, and at level 20 you choose from six different classes based on your decision at level 10, if you chose esquire you can go with knight, ranger and sentinel; if you chose master you have collector, blacksmith or alchemist. Each class has an array of different abilities that will give you certain advantages during fights, some passive and some active(you have to manually activate them).

If you go for blacksmith or alchemist you can create a shop, and sell services or objects through it, for either individuals or guilds. Also, there are many guilds per castle, so you can move if certain guild is not for you.

There are trades, auctions, crafting, events, and more things to come in future updates, I hope.

This is not an ad, I just love the game so much. If you have Telegram installed just look for "chtwrsbot" and start playing right away but, if you want to help me with a referral, I may get one extra mac stamina point, just let me know in the comments.

See ya in the next Castle Battle. Hope you enjoy it as much as me.
