The elusive Unicorn: Free and unmonetized games Posted: 04 Dec 2021 03:14 AM PST I have been looking around for a bit and am in the search of LibreGames for Android. The most important parts of these games for most people probably are that they are:
Sounds impossible in this highly competitive market where everything is aimed at making money? It's not! Actually where is a quite big variety of games available. Games I am currently aware of: Battle for Wesnoth Think of it as Fire Emblem. It's a turn based strategy game. Basically you move your armies around on a hex map and try to defeat the enemy troops. For battles you have to take stuff into account like type of troops as well as the terrain. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.alessandropira.wesnoth114&hl=en_US&gl=US Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead A survival game. Your goal is so survive during a zombie apocalypse. And boy is it deep. It has an extensive crafting system. You can get various interesting mutations. Makes every playthrough very unique. If you aren't fond of the ASCII-Style you can chose between different tilesets in the options. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.MichaelDavies.CataclysmDDA&hl=en_US&gl=US SuperTuxKart A classic among the Linux community. It's basically a homebrew Mario Kart. But instead of Nintendo Characters you have several FOSS-Characters like Tux the Penguin or Gnu. Even has a Story made and even splitscreen multiplayer. I recommend a device with a bigger screen for the latter. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.supertuxkart.stk SuperTux What SuperTuxKart is to Mario Kart, Super Tux is to Super Mario. It's a 2D platformer with a full story mode and also offers a ton of levels made by the community. Even has a world map where you select the different levels from. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.lethargik.supertux2&hl=en_US&gl=US Birth of the Empires A turn-based 4X strategy game in the style of Master of Orion 2. You control one of the factions of the universe and need to guide it from the beginning of the empire. There are different ways to win. So how you reach your goal is up to you. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blotunga.bote.android&hl=en_US&gl=US ETLegacy It's a port of ET Legacy which itself is a project which keeps Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory alive. The game is a WW2 multiplayer shooter. In every round two teams fight for different objects on the map. The official maps are based on real locations, but there are also a ton of community made maps available. https://www.etlegacy.com/download Unciv Tries to recreate the gameplay of Civilization 5, minus the graphics. So what you get is a turn based 4X game where you guide a civilization through the ages, engage in diplomacy with other factions and of course wage war. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.unciv.app&hl=en_US&gl=US Freeciv More Civilization on Android. This one is not based on Civ 5 though, but on Civ 1 and Civ 2. The general gameplay is identical though: Turn based 4X game, diplomacy, war and so on. Also looks fancier than Unciv. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.org.zielinscy.freeciv&hl=en_US&gl=US Mindustry Basically Factorio for Android, but with its own style. You build a factory, defend your base against waves of enemies, collect resources and then travel to the next map. While doing all of this you unlock new buildings which you carry over to new maps. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.anuke.mindustry&hl=en_US&gl=US Minetest Minetest looks like Minecraft, but according to the devs it has a completely different goal. They see it more as a engine for different games which you can download as plugins. You can also just play it like Minecraft, dig through the world, collect resources and build stuff if you want though. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.minetest.minetest&hl=en_US&gl=US Tuxemon This is a project in it's very early phase of development. Basically it's a FOSS-Version of the early Pokémon games with its own storyline and monsters. There isn't a lot to play available at the moment. You can still already take a look. https://tuxemon.org/android-install.html OpenTTD This is a recreation of the classic Transport Tycoon. As the name implies you have to create a transportation network. So you have to set up routes for trucks and trains and so on. Comes with its own assets. But if you like the look of the classic Transport Tycoon and have a version of it available, you can use these assets. Not a requirement to play it though. Even supports online multiplayer. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.openttd.sdl&hl=en_US&gl=US If you know more, feel free to link to them in the comments! [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Dec 2021 09:50 PM PST TL;DR If you like kicking and hitting balls in a game that's easy to understand but hard to master with a very reasonable microtransaction system, this is the game for you. I've always heard of the PC and console versions of Rocket League. Apparently its really fun, enjoyable and all around a great experience. Unfortunately I never had a PC that could run this game well (and for a reaction-based game like it, running well is a must) so I had to give up on it. Enter Rocket League : Sideswipe.
The game has three graphical settings- low, medium and high. They're pretty self explanatory, with low being bare bones and omitting certain visual effects, medium having extra visual effects and better shadows, and high being an all-rounder great looking experience. The game has a frame rate slider that takes the frame rate from 30-60, for squeezing out that extra juice from your battery. Honestly, the game looks great even on low, with medium and high being incredibly good looking for a fast paced, action based game like this. The balls look really good, at least when compared to mine. Performance is good across the board, with the system requirements being generously low. (Genshin Impact has traumatized me on this front)
The game has a banger electronic soundtrack (with genres ranging from techno to EDM however its quite short, probably because of licensing), and good audio cues various actions such as hitting balls (I tried it myself, the sounds are incredibly accurate), getting balls into holes (goalposts or hoops) and general ambiance (crowd cheering, whistles etc.). The audio design of this game is incredibly good, and makes me want to keep hitting balls with cars.
And of course, last but not the least - gameplay. So, how's the gameplay here? Bad? Good? Well..... ...Its ball bustingly good. Seriously, this game has fantastic gameplay. The controls are super easy to understand. Within a minute, you'll be hitting balls like a champ. However, despite these controls being easy to understand, they're hard to master (just the way they should be). You will have to understand the subtle nuances of your boosts, the gravity and acceleration of the car, the physics and weight of the balls, and then you'll find that the game is seriously fun. The microtransactions are absolute perfection. Literally all of the micro-transactions in this game are purely cosmetic, with no gameplay change. What this means is that a Lvl 1 player fresh out of the womb and a Lvl 100 player straight out of their mother's basement have an equal opportunity to win. The playing fields are truly even to create that perfect ball-hitting action. Matches are short and simple, and can be completed in a bus or train ride, which makes this the perfect pick up and play game.
The game has all of the staples of a mobile game of course - Daily rewards, lootboxes, different leagues and ranks (Bronze 1, Bronze 2 yada yada), but it never falls into the trappings of other android games (being pay to win). It is the perfect example of what a mobile game should be, which is good portable fun. This game also makes me want to hit balls. 10/10 game. im not a native english speaker, so apologies if the language was inconsistent and the grammer was wrong. this is also literally the first review ive ever done for any piece of media, so apologies if it doesnt sound great and professional [link] [comments]

What mobile games are MUST play Posted: 03 Dec 2021 08:46 PM PST Not a massive gamer but I got into clash of clans when that first came out and have recently been playing some battle royales (mainly cod mobile, pubg). Kind of over them and I'm waiting for Apex to come out. In the meantime, what games do you guys reckon are just absolute classics that everyone should experience? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Dec 2021 11:34 AM PST So is there anything similar to the Sorcerery series, Dust and salt and the lone wolf saga? Not just pure reading and making choices but actual gameplay also prefer it to be fantasy and not sci-fi [link] [comments]
[REQUEST] Any game similar to the long defunct Titanfall Assault? Posted: 04 Dec 2021 05:52 AM PST It's been years and I'm still missing it, here's a quick gameplay incase you havent played it Basically, you drop your units on the map and they go to the waypoint, once there the AI takes over and either attacks or capture the closes waypoint until all of them are captured and then proceeds to attack the enemy base. Looking for a Game like Stardew Valley on android + controller support Posted: 04 Dec 2021 11:37 AM PST Hey guys, So after I spent hundred hrs of playing Stardew Valley on my Phone (with my Razer Kishi Controller) I got spoiled. It feels so good playing mobile games with the Kishi, just like it did years ago when I was a Kid playing Pokemon on my Gameboy Color. However, I cant find an alternative to Stardew Valley that also supports controller gameplay. Maybe you guys can help me out?It doesnt has to be exactly a Stardew Valley clone - just an awesome made game that has a lot of Gametime to offer and is playable with my Razer Kishi. An RPG would be my favourite Genre, oh and I dont really like to play all those first person Games on a Phone like minecraft or even Games like GTA Would be nice if someone could help me out =) Edit: There is also this "Xbox Game Pass Cloud" thing. Not sure how good it works but if this makes sense I'm all done for it. [link] [comments]
What are some of the best emulators in 2021 for Pokemon games? Posted: 04 Dec 2021 02:48 AM PST I remember back in the day playing Pokemon games on my PC using Desmume and VisualBoyAdvance. I'm wondering what are the most recent pokemon games that can be played on Android using an emulator? I've heard of Citra with the 3ds games? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Dec 2021 07:24 AM PST I am looking for a game I had downloaded about a year or two ago that was virtually an identical mobile version of Mud and Blood. To sum it up Mud and Blood is a WW2 strategy game that was originally a flash game on the web where one starts off with a fireteam of randomly generated troops each with unique skills at your command and you fight off endless waves of enemy troops. As the waves progress you get points to award the troops with better weapons, call in more troops, construct fortified positions, vehicles, etc. There was lots of details and random situations that came into play. IMO it was the most realistic combat game on mobile because you really had to focus on the abilities of your men and leading them, there was lots of strategy to it. If anyone could help me find the mobile version of this game that was released it would be awesome. I would even be happy with any recomendations you guys have that would fill my fix for being a armchair commander. All I can find is FPS military games and "strategy" games that are very arcadish pay to play type games. The more realistic the better. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Dec 2021 06:05 AM PST I am in search for a game that I once played probably 2 years ago. It is similar to tween craft (search on Google play) but it's better and the characters are furries. It's an animation game similar to Vyond and GoAnimate but the characters are furries and it is free. In that game, you could add frames and move characters around. You can add effects for your character to see. The earliest experience I remember there is watching an animation in its application and I think it was about a nuclear disaster. You can use characters such as an orange shirted tank top poodle or create some such as a white cat with a dress and a crown. It's similar to gacha life but you make your videos in the app and you animate the characters reaction and make them move. The reactions were preset and you can make them walk or run. Please help me! (Year: 2017-2019 Genre: Animation and Character Design Perspective: 2.5D App purchases: Subscription, normal purchases Characters: Preset humanoid animals and custom ones. Free: Yes) [link] [comments]
Fun coop games that aren't pay2win? Posted: 03 Dec 2021 11:29 PM PST I've been playing Clash Royale strictly for the clan/2v2 matches and absolutely love it. But the game has become so pay2win now that I'm constantly outclassed by other players that are my level but have overpowered cards. What kind of cooperative games are there that aren't pay2win? Any genre is fine. [link] [comments]
Anyone knows a game where it's like I'm playing DnD? Posted: 03 Dec 2021 09:30 PM PST Weirdly enough I haven't played DnD before but I do know some mechanics of it. So what happened was I found a game called " Life in Adventure " and it somewhat felt like how it a DnD game would be but in a shorter lifespan. I'm just wondering if you guys have any other idea of a game similar to DnD or any tabletop games with RPG elements , Game of luck (possibly dice related) , loots and gimmicks , stat based weapons. Also if possible I want a single player , or if it's an Multiplayer it should be a no video/voice thing. I'm also fine with games like a game of choice but I would prefer if the choices is non linear to a point there's only one ending to it. Hope you guys have a nice day ! [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Dec 2021 04:57 AM PST Also, I have a question, I tried Titan quest n I didn't felt the same wonder as when I played exiled kingdoms, any idea why? [link] [comments]
[REQUEST] Looking for Android horror game recs that aren't PC ports? Posted: 03 Dec 2021 11:40 PM PST I've been trying to find good Android horror games to play, and it seems if I search for it on the Google Play store a lot of what shows up is either cheap screamers of whatever's popular or ports of stuff I can just play on my computer. Does anyone have any good suggestions for stuff that's made to be played on mobile? I don't think a lot of 3d rendered stuff, RPG Maker Games, or point and click stuff is really intended for mobile devices, and it doesn't port well a lot of the time. It's awkward and makes good games play badly. I'm looking for:
Sorry if that's a lot of check points, I've been having no luck on mobile game recs and I figured maybe being extra specific might help [link] [comments]
