AMA Announcements: Frank Monza (30th of November, 3 pm UTC/4 pm CEST/10 am EST/7 am PST) and Dieter Bohn (2nd of December, 5 pm UTC/6 pm CEST/12 pm EST/9 am PST)

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 10:05 AM PST

We are delighted to be hosting Frank Monza and Dieter Bohn for AMA's on the 30th of November and 2nd of December respectively.

Frank is the developer of KLWP and KWGT which are very popular apps with the Android theming community. A lot of themes on /r/androidthemes use either or both of these apps. u/Piemontesegio will also be joining him.

Dieter is an executive editor at the Verge. He is responsible for most of the Android related coverage and is the co-host of the Vergecast podcast.

We are very excited to have both of them with us and hope the community also shares our enthusiasm. Please note this is just the announcement thread so questions should be left for the AMA.

Spotify now recognizes artist names on text selection and provides a shortcut

This is interesting... This has to be done entirely offline and in-device so Spotify now includes a list of the most popular artists, and everytime you select text including their names, it shows a shortcut to open the artist page on the app.

What was the worst Android phone you owned?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 09:24 AM PST

Personally, the LG G3. It was a hot mess! The phone overheated all the time. The Android Lolipop update made the phone run like crap. Battery life was like 2-3 hrs SOT. Ended up buying a ZeroLemon battery case to make it last the day. In it's last days, the phone went into a bootloop after installing a custom boot screen. Glad to be free! Turned off LG phones for me ever since.

Galaxy Note 9 just got updated with wireless DEX support.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 05:36 AM PST

Just had an update pop up on my Note 9. Samsung seems to have updated the phone to include wireless DEX. I thought that was one of the big selling points of the Note 20 though?...

Either way, I don't have any TV to test it out with so I can't say how well it works.

Is Samsung the only Android Manufacturer without a single flop that wasn’t made right?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 06:35 PM PST

I was on the worst Android phone you ever owned thread and got to thinking that every manufacturer has at least one phone on that list.

However, I think Samsung has really done a great job avoiding that mostly. The only Samsung phone that flopped was the infamous Note 7 with batterygate. However, Samsung made that right and refunded everyone once the issue was discovered. It was a $100 million+ mistake, but they fixed it the right way by taking blame and refunding customers.

Samsung has been slow with Android updates, but haven't ever really reneged on a promise to update.

If you think about the number of phones that Samsung sells, the fact they have only had one major issue and fixed it says a lot.

Even Google themselves can't claim to have as good Android update support as Samsung. Nor can they claim to have had less hardware issues.
