Why doesn't Android ask for the WiFi Control permission? Posted: 08 Sep 2020 04:57 AM PDT If you go to Settings > Apps > Special app access > WiFi Control, you'll find many apps which have this permission granted by default, including apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, or MS Office. Apparently this permission allows an app to see, connect to, and even add WiFi networks, and also start hotspots. Why doesn't Android ask for these "Special app access" permissions before granting them? To me, these seem as important as the Location, Camera and Microphone permissions. [link] [comments] |
What's the difference between Nearby Share and regular Bluetooth share? Posted: 08 Sep 2020 11:00 AM PDT Nearby share request WiFi, Bluetooth and location in order to work. Why would i want to use this over just Bluetooth? Genuinely curious, because i just got the feature without any notice. [link] [comments] |
How to fix inconsistent folder rows/columns? Posted: 08 Sep 2020 09:59 AM PDT My folders display like this in the home screen/app drawer: Neat 3x3 grid. But when I tap into it,the apps display in a 4x3 grid. It's driving me INSANE. I nearly always tap on the wrong app first when opening a folder. I'm a very visual person, I need this to be consistent. Is there some sort of app/launcher/program I can download or setting i can fix to make the grid consistent between collapsed and open app folders? [link] [comments] |
Settings menu opening randomly while using my phone (samsung s10+ and s20) Posted: 08 Sep 2020 03:53 AM PDT Hey everyone, I'm encountering a very strange and specific problem on my samsung s20 and my previous phone, the s10+. (English is not my native language so my apologies in advance for any spelling errors or strange sentences) What's going on: This problem started roughly 1 and a half year ago on my samsung s10+, not necessarily immediately after a software update. At random moments after I wake my phone from sleep or when I'm using apps like whatsapp, rif or Gmail (and many more) my phone suddenly and without prompting opens the settings menu. The other apps keep running in the background and are usually not affected in any way when I reopen them. The settings menu that is opened is the general settings menu, so it doesn't direct me to a specific part of the menu. I thought that it might be a defect in my phone, but roughly six months ago I bought the s20. The strange thing is, the problem now also happens on my new phone... It's highly frustrating and I have no clue how to resolve this. Troubleshooting: So I first took a look at my apps and app permissions. I didnt find anything out of the ordinary (so no apps that I didnt recognize or didn't install myself, also no permissions that I think could lead to something like this). So next I thought it might be because I used a samsung app to migrate my data from my old phone to my new phone. However all the apps where installed by myself by using the play store... the only thing I actually moved where my contacts and some photos I took on my s10+. So that shouldn't be it either. The only thing I think might be the problem might be conflicting apps or something, but I have no idea what combination of applications could cause your settings menu to randomly pop up... Because it happens regardless of what I'm doing on my phone and it's getting pretty annoying. So that leaves me with: No fucking clue what's going on to be honest. I'm at my withs end and I really hope one of you has any idea what's going on. I would love to hear your suggestions. Thanks in advance for your time and help!!! [link] [comments] |
Snapchat client or alternative? Posted: 08 Sep 2020 12:19 PM PDT I recently came across the fdroid instagram client called instagrabber. I'm wondering if anyone knows of anything similar for snapchat? I just hate all the annoying explore things. The ui of instagrabber will almost certainly make me check it less as well, which is a good thing. [link] [comments] |

Not being able to sign in to google account after factory reset! (Samsung grand prime plus) Posted: 08 Sep 2020 12:11 PM PDT After deciding to change phones. I reseted my sister's older phone (a grand prime plus) and trying to sign to the old gmail gives the error (unable to sign in to device due to recent password change. please try to sign in again 24 hours after the password change was preformed) The reset was made a month ago and even waiting over a week doesn't change anything. This FRP bug is keeping me from using the phone to give it to my father. any help will be appreciated. Thank you for any help [link] [comments] |
Disable Android 11 notification panel zoom? Posted: 08 Sep 2020 11:56 AM PDT On Android 11 (Pixel 3a) the home screen wallpaper now "zooms" in and out as you swipe the notification panel up and down. Is there any way to disable this? Under Developer options > Drawing there are three options (window animation, transition animation, and animator) but turning these off has no effect on the notification panel zoom. Posted: 08 Sep 2020 11:32 AM PDT The title is my problem and my question is if I can fix it or not. Whenever I try to install anything it says all of my partitions are empty except for the infinite list of device names and information and when I try to wipe my phone it says failed to mount storage, cache etc. [link] [comments] |
Unable to Make or Receive Calls Posted: 08 Sep 2020 11:20 AM PDT My Galaxy s8 is unable to make or receive calls on the cellular network. If I dial a number, I get stuck on the 'Calling...' screen with no ringing for about 30 seconds before it cancels. I can't receive any calls, though my phone is able to translate voicemail into text. I can however make/recieve Wifi calls or when I'm on VoLTE. Everything else is working normally. It started yesterday when I accidentally hung up quickly after dialing a friend. Nothing I've seen has been the fix. I'm on Sprint and located in the US if that matters. I appreciate any help! [link] [comments] |
how to fix/streamline contacts, calendars etc. + how to maximize use of contact info Posted: 08 Sep 2020 10:48 AM PDT over the years as I've moved from phone to phone I've had my contacts imported countless times. At this point I'm not even really sure *where* my contacts are backed up but I think I've got them mostly saved to my google account. that said, some of them have a phone icon as well when it shows what account they on. Also, there are to contacts apps on my phone (LG V30)- a green one and a blue one (one of them is Google). I can never remember which one is which and I worry if I delete one stuff won't work correctly. I've also got to calendar apps- one native to the phone (I think) and one Google. They both seem to pull in all the same events so I don't see a need for both but, again don't want to lose info if I delete one. The other issue is that SO MANY birthdays and anniversaries are duplicated- I can't figure out why everyone's birthday is in there twice. is there a tutorial or something out there for cleaning this stuff up?? Finally, how does the "relationship" part of contacts work? what are you supposed to put in the "fill in the blank portion" vs. what is the purpose of the dropdown? These are just things that have nagged at me for years, that I'd love to clean up so any help would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |

Is there a way to quickly, remotely turn off my phone screen? Posted: 08 Sep 2020 10:19 AM PDT I'm looking for away to quickly turn off my android device via Bluetooth if I'm watching Netflix. For example if the screen is ten feet away and I want to not just pause the video but black out the screen entirely. Is this possible? I've seen some bluetooth remotes but they all just seem to pause videos or return to the home screen. [link] [comments] |

Looking for Stock Android devices is getting really hard Posted: 08 Sep 2020 04:56 AM PDT Hi! I love Stock Android since I bought my Nexus 4 when it became older I bought a Nexus 5X that suddenly died just after the guaranty expired. Pixel phones were expensive so I bought a Nokia 6.1, my current device. I was considering to buy a Nokia 7.X after the 6 death whenever this happen. Sadly I'm experiencing freezes and anybody knows why, so that makes me consider alternatives apart from Nokia. However there are very few pure Stock Android devices. Nokia has Android One, good, Motorola One has moved from Android One to just Android, and my brother had bad experiences with his Moto G3. Pixel phones are better now but I'm not sure if I like the new Google strategy, so what lefts? Xiaomi is tempting but not stock android at all, similar to One Plus or Samsung. I also would like to buy all the accessories to the same company to have a good experience, but that terribly sounds like Apple. What do you recommend me? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Sep 2020 08:11 AM PDT I use a white noise player in headphones and when calls come in I have to accept the call, go quickly into the player, mute it then talk, and it can be awkward - is there a way to preset the app to mute itself before a call is accepted? Not sure right now if the person on the other end can hear me speaking over the volume of the white noise. If need be I can stop using the phone as a phone and solve the problem that way mind. Android 10 lockscreen weather issues Posted: 08 Sep 2020 06:48 AM PDT Hey everyone, I have a Motorola G7 power. After the latest Android update the weather started displaying on my lock screen every once in a while (I don't have a widget this was new for me as of the update) but the temperature is way off. I never thought this would bug me but it's driving me crazy. I've seen solutions online but only for the Pixel and Galaxy phones not Motorola. Any and all help would go a long way towards restoring my sanity! [link] [comments] |
Is my phone infceted by malware? Posted: 08 Sep 2020 06:24 AM PDT So i recently visited a site and w9dnered if it had malwsre and i went to google a bit about that site and stumbled upon this article: https://www.2-spyware.com/remove-ibb-co-virus.html On this page you can see the table with information about website virus i was worried about(its not an issue now) but at the end of that table you can see "Optimization" section which says "Use reimage to repair virus damage" and i click that link in optimization thinking it will take me to offical Reimage page but it was direct download that downloaded reimage.exe file that seemed suspicious so i didn't run it(since i cant even run .exe file on android) and i deleted it straight away and redownloaded it on my pc to scan it with malwarebytes and Malwarebytes said it is PUP.optional file. So i am asking now since i am starting to be very paranoid,is my phone infected even if i didn't run .exe file on my android? Please help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Sep 2020 06:15 AM PDT I'm experiencing odd vibrations when using my phone. Often times it will occur immediately after I've turned off my screen. However, lately it's been happening during normal use as well. There isn't any visual indiciation on screen or with the LED of the notification. It's just a single short vibration. I'm not able to recreate it every time either. Is there a way to track events like the event viewer in windows? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
