Why are HD+ display phones still being made? Are Full HD panels that expensive? Posted: 05 Sep 2020 02:52 AM PDT The difference between Full HD+ and HD+ displays is so large and most people find the difference between QHD and Full HD+ negligible, that it seems like Full HD+ should be the standard. And while it is why do phone manufacturers such as Nokia with their Nokia 5.3 still refuse to use Full HD panels. Is the expense really that much, and even if it is, the display seems like a place where you really shouldn't cheapen out on right? Its the part of the phone you see everyday. Do they still have a use for this inferior resultion? [link] [comments] |
Make Audio file easily accessible to special-needs user Posted: 05 Sep 2020 08:41 AM PDT My son has special needs. He has a low-cost Android (Samsung I think). His therapist made a 15-minute recording (WAV) that is very large (155 MB). I sent it to his GMail account. I can access it from there via Google Drive but I sort of have to futz with it to launch it. What I would like to do is download it to a physical location on his device and put an icon on his screen so that he just touches the icon and it launches the recording. One challenge I face is that Androids don't seem to have a default File Manager. I have used Astro before but I would like to know what is the simplest way to copy the file to a physical location I can just download it to, easily find, then add a link on the home screen? Thanks! Help needed with Flashing AOSP on Samsung Galaxy J3 2017 Posted: 05 Sep 2020 10:53 AM PDT So I've found my old Samsung phone and I've decided it would be fun to Root it and flash stock android. I followed this tutorial on XDA-Developers on how to Root my SM-J327U using Odin, and succeeded, but where do I go from here? How do I obtain the AOSP Stock ROM for my device? I can't seem to find the file, nor a list of compatible devices with AOSP Android 9. Help is very much appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Sep 2020 10:50 AM PDT When i go check apps that are running in the background this app called Android Services Library appears using around 30 to 40 mb. I selected it but nothing happens unlike other apps that show me their info. I found the app in a file manager and supposedly it is a system app. Could it be a malware? I wonder because I downloaded an apk from aptoide and granted it storage permission. I already deleted the app and factory reseted. Can an app be downloaded by just granting storage permission? No Notification sound issue Samsung A51 Posted: 05 Sep 2020 10:03 AM PDT Notification sounds seem to "disappear" at random. The Notification sounds are muted, no mater the volume. Issue persists in notification sound selection menu too. This affects all apps that i have. Rest of the sound work(Call, music, app) Restarting temporarily fixes it. I have the latest version of android 10 I'll try to post a video of it when issue returns. Anyone else had this problem? [link] [comments] |
Anyone know why digital wellbeing adds screen time to random apps overnight? Posted: 05 Sep 2020 03:46 AM PDT I'm on Android 10 on a Nokia 6.2 and every time I wake up in the morning, I have about six hours on screen time. The other night, most of that was spent on the Twitch app and today I woke up to see Reddit with 4 hours of screen time. It doesn't just happen when I'm asleep; I checked my screen time at midnight, left my phone on charge for two hours, then checked again and Reddit had an hour of screen time. I also notice that apps sometimes exceed their timers but I can still use the app, which leads me to believe that they have also had time erroneously added to them. Is this a known bug or is there something that causes it? It's quite annoying as it means it doesn't track my actual screen time. [link] [comments] |

Android 10 galaxy a50 screen capture permission application Posted: 05 Sep 2020 08:43 AM PDT I'm using the app "mi control center". If you want to use the live blurry background for this, you need to enable screen capture. I can enable it and give the permission but it only works very laggy. For example if i want to pull the control center down from the top i won't do anything. Only if i pull my finger up (in the opposite direction right after i pulled it down) it will open. So there's a huge delay and it does'nt work like its supposed to. I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my settings in the app, on the phone or if something is wrong with my phone in general. I can't believe that it's like that on any phone out there. So is there anything i can do to fix it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Sep 2020 08:26 AM PDT My Moto X4 (Android One, Android 9, Google Fi) has been having some issues lately. I ended up performing a hard reset to factory settings and that fixed the original issue, but now I have another one. Once it is turned on, the phone seems to be working great, but I get two new messages upon reboot. The first one reads, "Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and may not work properly" and is accompanied by a red warning triangle and this link (motorola.com/unlockbootloader). It then proceeds to boot up, but yellow text on a black background appears at the top of the androidone screen. It reads, "verity mode set to eio." After lots of research, I found this page (https://source.android.com/security/verifiedboot/verified-boot) that seems to indicate that this error can be resolved by reinstalling my OS. My question is, what is the best course of action and how can I ensure that I don't brick my phone? The error warning suggests unlocking the bootloader, but I don't see how that would help and it seems like a risky process. If I do decide to reinstall the OS/reflash the ROM, (same thing? not sure which one is the one I'm looking for) what is the safest way to do it so that I don't kill my phone? Thank you for reading! Android 10.0 - Syncing Outlook calendar w/ System Calendar Posted: 05 Sep 2020 08:24 AM PDT So, my Galaxy S10 broke and I replaced it with an S20+. Both appear to run Android 10.0, but the newer phone is running One UI v2.5 vs. 2.1 on the S10. I suppose there are other differences in packaging. In my S10 days I was able to sync my Outlook calendar to my system calendar app via the "Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync" account type and separately have a Google account with the same email address for linking Google Voice. In Android 10, the "Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync" account type appears to have been merged into the "Exchange" account type, which seems to be Google-associated and, as such, collides with my Google account with the same email address. I now cannot use both meaning I can't have both an Exchange link for my calendar and a Google link for my work Google voice account. I can, of course, set up an account of type "Work" for use with the native Outlook app, but this only presents my calendar from within the Outlook app itself and there appears to be no way to connect it to my system calendar app. I'll probably look into renaming the Google account I use for Google Voice to avoid the collision with my work account, but am I missing some other obvious solution here? TIA [link] [comments] |
Keeps screen on while charging Posted: 05 Sep 2020 08:22 AM PDT I don't know any third party app is forcing screen on. I am not sure. Please help me when I keep phone for charging screen never go off and becomes black what may be cause for this. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Sep 2020 07:17 AM PDT I bought an unlocked renewed S10+ from Amazon. I am frequently not receiving text messages or, if I do, I get them several hours late. It affects both SMS and MMS. My previous phone was an iPhone (ATT sim, fully owned by me). I've gone through the whole deal: disabled iMessages on my iPhone, got a new sim card, enabled various developer options related to wifi and mobile data, cleared caches, did a soft reset, checked the APN settings, tried on different wifi networks, tried Textra instead of the stock app... Any ideas? Of the people in my social circle, I'm the only one with an Android phone, and if I can't get texts reliably then this is a deal breaker. [link] [comments] |
Looking for Advice on Using an old phone to a Dedicated mP3 player Posted: 05 Sep 2020 06:46 AM PDT Recently I decided that I wanted to split off my music library from my main device since it's large and playing music sometimes causes performance issues when I'm using other apps. I have an old Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini that is still in good shape, and I figured it would make a good alternative. I looked at dedicated MP3 players, but I want to be able to use streaming apps and have automatic scrobbling, and the players I've seen that support those features tend to be a bit more expensive than I'm willing to pay. I've been using it for a couple of weeks, and it works fine, but I was hoping there might be some ways I could improve the experience. This device is currently on Android 4.4.2 with stock firmware. I've noticed it's a little sluggish sometimes even though I've uninstalled basically all the apps on it. Would there be any benefits to using a custom firmware, and if so, what are good options? Are there any other improvements I can make to improve performance or audio quality? I'm currently using Black Player as my media player app; I had been using PowerAmp, but it seems to be a bit outdated compared to my main device and I've noticed some skipping during playback. Are there any other apps I should look into that might perform better on an older device? Thank you. [link] [comments] |

Huawei P20 filtering notifications? Posted: 05 Sep 2020 05:15 AM PDT I have a Huawei P20 with the newest update (EMUI 10.0.0) and for the past few weeks I've been experiencing problems with some notification icons appearing only for a split second on the notification bar and then vanishing without giving you the chance to even see what they are. This also happens on locked screen, ie. you hear a buzz of, say, calendar notification but you unlock and see an empty bar. At first I thought this was some notification filtering mechanism but it's so random that I doubt it and it clears up even important notifications like those of banking apps or calendars... I couldn't find anything like this in the settings and wiping the cache did not help. Ideas? [link] [comments] |
Need Private DNS to block ads (Not Adguard) Posted: 05 Sep 2020 04:11 AM PDT I was using Adguard (dns.adguard.com) for ad free browsing for months. Last week, I realized that most of my connections are NOT secure. Chrome always gives warning that 'your connection is that site is not secure'. When I disable private DNS, all of my connection got secured again. So I'm open for suggestions. [link] [comments] |
Any good third party ROMS for Samsung S9? Posted: 05 Sep 2020 04:06 AM PDT |
Posted: 04 Sep 2020 06:30 PM PDT I bought the S20 from a highly rated seller with solid reviews, but my mobile carrier (Spectrum) says they can't connect the phone using the imei. Any suggestions on how to get this to work? I've checked numerous Youtube videos, tried changing sim card settings, and even looked at those 'unlocking' websites but the phone is supposed to be unlocked already. I checked the imei on a site that said the phone's from Panama and the carrier was listed as "Open" - I'm not sure if "Open" means its unlocked already or not. Also, the phone doesn't prompt me to enter an unlock code when I put the new sim card in it, should it? I'd really appreciate anyone's help...if I need to return it please advise...Thanks so much [link] [comments] |
Phone decided to do a factory reset by itself. What can be done? Posted: 05 Sep 2020 02:58 AM PDT Hiya all, as not to dawdle Imma get to the point: About a month ago I forgot to charge my Note 3 and it decided not to charge at all. Fine, got a replacement until I can buy a new phone. About two weeks ago, I remembered how many 2FAs were in there and I NEED my N3 alive so I could log in to my shit. Put it on charge and surprise (!) it charged. I charged to full and left it off, so the battery wouldn't discharge until I am ready to transfer my data and stuff. Now the worst part - yesterday before bed I found my phone turned on and in factory reset screen !PIC. It's been around more than 16 hours since I found it this way. I plugged it in so it wouldn't discharge and brick itself. Now my question would be: is there any hope for me to fix this shitty situation without bricking my N3? I just need to turn this on now so I could transfer the 2FAs and be done with this phone for good. [link] [comments] |
