    Recovering data from screen-dead phone?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 10:58 AM PDT

I had a OnePlus 3T till a couple of months ago, when one day it suddenly started having screen issues. There was a violet blot on the corner of the screen which was rapidly spreading to the other parts of the screen. Other than that, the phone was okay. I quickly transferred my data to my laptop, then to another device. Although I managed to transfer all of my data out of my phone, for some weird reason I didn't export my WhatApp folder to my laptop, thinking that I already had a backup to Google Drive.

As it turns out, WhatApp videos on my old phone were not backed up to drive, and I didn't get them out to my laptop either. Now when I connect my old phone to my laptop, I can't really toggle the 'USB for file transfer' in the notification bar since the phone is screen dead. Is it possible to retrieve data from a screen dead phone? Any help is really appreciated.

How can I backup apps while in safe mode?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 10:56 AM PDT

My phone is stuck at boot problem and I was recommended to wipe it all. However I still manage to get into Safe Mode.

My question: how can I backup my apps while in safe mode? No need to backup all apps, just a few important ones (among others: Kiwi Browser, Daylio [Journaling app], Swipetimes [time tracker], Sleep for Android, Expense Manager).

I already use the Android default backup but it seems like it only backup Google apps.
I unfortunately do not use Helium or Titanium Backup.

My phone is not rooted. Any help?

    Long USB C port?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 06:39 PM PDT

I recently got back into using my Oukitel K10 phone and I find that pretty much nothing other than what came with the phone actually fits in the charging port ( White one came with the phone )

Does anyone know if this is a normal thing or how to look for cables that would fit it? I still have a charging cable but I'm looking for a usb-c to usb-a socket cable to use with a controller

Are there any Android phones that accept an external antenna?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 12:25 PM PDT

I work in remote places that often don't have cell service. I don't need a phone all the time but it would be nice if I had an antenna I could hook up to try to get service in case of an emergency.

    1) Would this even help?

2)Are there any AT&T phones that can use an external antenna? I don't care if it is an older phone that I just have for emergencies.

    Network connection issues

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 12:07 PM PDT

I have a Nokia 7 Plus and it's normal that this model has faulty usb ports. I took it to my neighborhood phone repair shop and instead of changing just the port itself they ordered an entirely new charging port board. The port is fine but ever since then I've had horrible reception, it's spotty at best and non-existent at worst. WiFi works fine, it's just data that's not working.

I took it back there today but unfortunately the repair technician was already out for the day. The clerk told me it might be a software configuration issue instead of a hardware issue but I'm not sure, it was fine until they opened it up. He said the tech can take a quick look at my settings but since it's a network issue would it be better to take it to my service provider?

Oh and it's been running a little hot sometimes even when it's just sitting in my pocket, I forgot to tell the clerk that.

So what should I do? Take it to my service provider? Or would they need to open my phone up again? Or is it something I can fix myself?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Has Android 11 changed notification reading behavior for anyone else?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 11:59 AM PDT

This is a problem my fiancee has been having and I can't figure out what's going on. She's on a Pixel 3XL and updated to Android 11 when it was released. Since then, she's been having trouble getting notifications to be read to her through the wired earbuds that ship with the phone (not the true wireless Pixel Buds).

When I try it, sometimes it reads the notifications properly, other times it just doesn't respond to the volume up long press at all. I tried this with both her earbuds and mine and had the same issue, so it's not like the button is broken, and it changes the volume perfectly fine as well. It doesn't seem to care whether the notification has been read before or not either, because sometimes playing whatever media she was listening to and then stopping it makes it read the notifications properly, and getting a new notification doesn't guarantee things will be read out properly.

Has anyone had this same problem or have ideas about how to address this?

Can I quote a message in Android Messages?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 10:32 AM PDT

Long press only gives me "reactions". Something i personally don't ever use.

On the other hand, quoting messages and replying to them is essential, as I often communicate in groups.

I don't think there is an option for this, but wanted to check here, maybe i really am missing something obvious?

    Non in-ear wireless earbuds

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 03:43 AM PDT

What are the top options of non in-ear earbuds for Android?

I've heard the Airpods do not have great functionality with Android phones and Windows computers.

I saw the Galaxy Buds Live as an option but they seem mediocre..

Samsung A71 Loses Wifi Connection after about 1 day until I reboot?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 05:52 AM PDT

I recently got an A71 UW 5G, (The Verizon variant of the A71) and about every day the wifi connection to my router drops.

After rebooting the wifi connection will be good again for about 1 day, then the problem reoccurs.

Reconnecting manually, forgetting and reentering the password does not work to fix it, even temporarily.

I have tried making sure the router (Google Wifi) is up to date and rebooted.

I have tried the Randomized Mac vs Phone Mac settings, it occurs with both.

No wifi connectivity issue with other devices or phones in the house, including 3 Samsung A51s that my sons have. (Not the exact same phone, but probably the most similar to it in my house.)

Any suggestions on what might be causing this or how to correct it?

Issues with data, note 8, straight talk?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 09:08 AM PDT

So I have a galaxy note 8 that was previously on Verizon and I switched it to Straight Talk. I was having trouble with data but I could call and text. I finally fixed it by finding the correct APN settings. The data works fine now but the data as well as the bars completely cuts out and comes back on again by itself in about 5 minutes. If I toggle airplane mode on and off it comes back right away.

What's causing this and how can I fix it?

    Fota update successfully failed?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 09:05 AM PDT

So got me an onn 10" pro tablet. Loved that thing but a program called Wireless Update decided that it wanted to do a thing. Downloaded the update, because I found out it is part of the OS, and now after downloading the update it just powers on fresh from a factory reset, then about 10 seconds later starts another factory reset. When trying to reset from recovery it says E: : fota installation aborted and E: : No such file or directory after both the cache format and it claiming the data wipe is complete. Any ideas?

I'm thinking of picking up the google pixel 3A and I currently reside in the EU but will be moving to the US for college in the future and I was wondering if I would run into issues with getting a service provider in the US (east coast) when using an EU phone? Thanks in advance! :)

My grandpa likes to visit adult websites on his phone but he is also a very family oriented man and so he has the grandkids over allot. What is the best thing I can do for his phone to remove the billion pornsite notifications and help keep his interests private from anyone using his phone? Im not trying to stop him from looking at adult content I just don't want him to be embarrassed if he's at McDonald's and his phone starts moaning lol.

    Instagram and android 7

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 04:45 AM PDT

Hi! I have a problem woth instagram and I hope someone can help me. Whenever I add a gif or music to my IG story, this can't be published (I always get the error); when I add location tag the story is cleaned up of all the other tags. Is there anyone with the same problem?

What I tried so far: - mobile restart - cache cleaned - unistall and install - disconnect the fb account from IG

The app is updated and this is happening only with my LG smartphone with Android 7 so I assume it's a problem related to the mobile phone?

    Split Screen Same App

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 08:27 AM PDT

    Hey All,
I have a use case scenario where it would be beneficial for me to split screen the same app. I want to be able to look at two separate things, but they are in the same app.
I see a lot of random applications with poor reviews, and most of the searches I bring up are back to Nougat.
Just wondering what everyone has had success with in the past?
    Thanks,

    OBB files disappearing after reboot

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 12:16 AM PDT

Hello everyone. Usually I can fix my Android problems myself or with a quick Google search but this time I couldn't find any working solution.

I've got a OnePlus 5T with Oxygen OS 10.0.0, unlocked bootloader and Magisk. When I install big games, no matter if I download them from Play Store or I manually copy the game's folder in Android/Obb, everyone I reboot the phone every folder inside Android/Obb disappear but in Settings -> Apps some games still show their full size.

I hope you understand what my problem is. I have no idea what is happening.

What are Some good Ways to block high RAM usage on Android Phones?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 07:33 AM PDT

Hi! I'm just some ordinary user, nothing special about me. I currently own a Samsung Galaxy E5, and my phone RAM is always High, (Between 80% and 65%) and it gets very annoying trying to deal with a phone always bugging.

In case you're wondering my phone Memory is on 20% usage, and also has a SD card inserted with 15 GB I think, so I already checked and it is not because my phone it full of useless crap. I also deactivate unnecessary apps when I get a new phone like: Google Maps, Google Movies, Galaxy Store, hangout etc.

If you know any type of Command or app to set up some kind of "Wall" or something to block unnecessary RAM increase, please send me a comment on how to do so, I'll gladly read every single reply or help you might have, thank you for reading and understanding the problem. Have a great day :)

Creating own (private) icon pack / icons?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 07:15 AM PDT

Sometimes there is a case that I just don't find good app icons to my tasting from the thousands of icon libraries. Now my inquiry goes:

    1. Can I create and maintain my personal (= private) icon pack (my phone is NOT rooted)?
    2. If yes, what are the requirements?
    3. How does the process go and what tools / apps I need?
    4. I am NO developer (read: can't write any code), but I can do svg graphics :) (using InkScape atm)
    5. Step by step 'average Joe' guide somewhere?

    Thx :)
