Ask Me Questions about the LG Wing! Posted: 18 Sep 2020 07:29 AM PDT Hi Reddit, I've seen a lot of interest here in the LG Wing, a quirky new smartphone with a display that swivels to reveal a smaller display underneath. LG sent me the Wing yesterday and I've been playing around with it to find out if this form factor makes sense. If you have any questions about the Wing, I'll try to answer them as best I can. Just keep in mind that LG sent reviewers including myself a pre-production unit, so we aren't allowed to do certain things like benchmarks or dive too deep into our experiences with the device. If you want to see the device in action, my colleague Ben posted a hands-on of the Wing on XDA and I also shared a few pics of it on Twitter. I'll be putting my own thoughts together on the Wing after spending a bit more time to appreciate (or nitpick) its quirks. [link] [comments] | ||

Is there a reason Android doesn't have an option for better permission granularity? Posted: 18 Sep 2020 01:24 PM PDT Example: app needs to download things to your phone (say music or an audiobook), the only permission available is file access. All it really needs is a local folder to download stuff to, not access to everything stored on my phone. I would love some other qol options, like timed permissions (sure, have access to my GPS or microphone for half an hour while I'm using you then ask again next time), but it's just overall odd to me that they have permissions for some degree of security but many times only give the option of "way more access to your phone than necessary or nothing at all". I get that it simplifies things, but that's something of a weak argument because it's easy enough to have an "east mode" that functions just as the current setup does, and giving developers the tools and encouragement to localize their use of people's phones is only a good thing in my book.
