Android Questions: Old LGV20 Slow - Any Tips?

Old LGV20 Slow - Any Tips?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 05:10 AM PDT

I bought my LGV20 shortly after release. Other than some light bleed from the top screen, and some occasional light burn-in that fades within a minute or two, I've loved this phone.

Dropped it god knows how many times, thrown it. Still good. I am not gentle on phones.

The last year or so I have noticed that it is starting to slow down significantly. Smooth running turned into minor hiccups turned into everything loading/running slowly or poorly.

I tried wiping it with a factory reset. Didn't seem to help at all.

I don't want to get a new phone unless I need to. Any tips or advice on how to get my baby running at a better performance level?

I don't expect a current flagship experience, I just want everything decently smooth again!

I've thought about rooting, but I'm not sure if that would fix my problem.

“Ghost Images” or “Burn-in” on an LCD Display?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 08:51 AM PDT

So I have a Nokia 8 which according to the manufacturer has an LCD display. I'm running stock Android 9 with the most recent updates. The phone was new when I got it. I have tried to factory reset the device to solve the problem, alas, to no avail.

For months now, whenever the screen has been showing certain UIs for a long-ish time (15 minutes+)—i.e. games, chat apps, websites with a lot of text, you name it—the static UI elements would "burn in" and still be visible when I'm back on the home screen or in other apps. I can't take a screenshot of it, as the "burnt-in" part doesn't show up on the screenshot (had to upload the screenshot to my PC to test this).

Imagine it like this: I have calendar/schedule widget on my home screen which shows the month and year in bright white letters at the top. If I switch into an app that has a dark part at the top, i.e. ProtonMail, the "August 2020" would still be visible on the dark top area in the app.

My understanding was that LCD displays shouldn't be able to suffer from burn-ins like CRTs did and AMOLEDs do. So what gives, and how can I solve this problem?

Need help with disabling a stubborn Device Administrator.

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 09:50 AM PDT

Before I start, here is some backstory. My parents installed an app (SFR Family Teens) to monitor my activity on my phone. This went on for 2 years till today, where my dad decided to uninstall the app, except that it didn't. The app did stop monitoring my activity (as seen on my dad's phone which was receiving all of that data previously), but instead this was always in the background (https://ibb.co/3Y2WMJX). It kept randomly popping over whatever else I was doing (basically blocking the app I was using and taking up the entire screen) despite me not giving it permission to do so. Whenever I tried to close it, this pop-up appeared (https://ibb.co/9rqx2pk). I couldn't even force stop it since the option was greyed out (https://ibb.co/rvzwhvG). After some research I found out that I need to disable it as a Device Administrator. But the option itself was greyed out: while trying to uninstall (https://ibb.co/31CLhj5), and while trying to disable it (https://ibb.co/hKKX955). I booted into Safe Mode too, but that didn't allow me to change the specific settings of the app itself.

I am NOT doing a factory reset, thank you for suggesting, the entirety of the internet. I have way too many photos and videos to safely back-up. There is barely any documentation about the app despite my best efforts to find some. The official site doesn't even mention such a situation (although I see a trend for them caring more for iPhone users, unfortunately).

DISCLAIMER: I am not a 9-year old trying to remove the app without my parents knowing. It is a joint decision between my dad and me, mainly the reason being we are moving country (SFR is an ISP in France which obviously doesn't operate in India, so the account used for Family Teens will be useless in India). It is scary how much control this app has over my phone (way more than Find My Device !).
I am considering rooting my device, but still want a safer way to do it.

    Any help is appreciated,
    cheers.

Fingerprint reader unreliable after 10 update

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 12:49 PM PDT

Since updating to android 10 (52.1.A.3.49) the fingerprint reader on my Sony XZ2 compact only works intermittently. I never had any problems with it before and there is no physical damage. The problem started immediately after the update.

I've tried relearning the prints and even assigning every print to the same finger from every angle, but nothing seems to work. It seems to be more of an issue when waking the device than in apps like LastPass where it seems slightly more reliable.

Has anyone else noticed this, and is there any way to fix it without downgrading?

How do I get rid of these countless .org.chromium.etc folders in my downloads - Galaxy S9

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 12:18 PM PDT

Okay when I upload a file, I see a bunch of random folders in my Downloads, and when I try to browse them, they are empty.

When I check the My Files app I don't see these countless folders.

I would like to remove them to speed up my ability to navigate, and I don't like having these oddly named folders.

    Play Store not working.

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 12:11 PM PDT

My gf is having problems with her tablet (Samsung Galaxy A6) - the Google Play Store is no longer working.

The text below the icon now reads "Open links in aps, without...". Photo

Clicking on the icon produces a pop-up message box with a longer version of the same text: "Open links in apps, without installation. By continuing, you agree to the Play Terms of Service. Learn More keeps stopping" with a single "x Close app" button. Photo

I've tried rebooting the tablet and clearing the app's data and cache, all to no avail.

Can anyone help? Any suggestions on how to fix?

Disable data when on WiFi. Developer options not working.

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 07:57 AM PDT

I'm either on WiFi or not so I'd like the data to auto turn off to save battery.

    I've got a G8 power lite running 9.0

I have enable the developer option and restarted my device. The 4g sign still shows when I'm on WiFi.

Hi, sorry if this isn't the right sub for this question.

I lent my friend my old phone and when he signed into his Google account it synced all my pics/vids into his. I have quite alot of errr... provocative stuff on there. Is there a way to remove all my stuff without him having to go through and delete it all individually? Thanks :)

    Official screen

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 07:10 AM PDT

    Hi !

I have a Huawei Mate 10 Pro and broke my screen a few days ago and gave it to a shop.

I'm pretty sure the guy didn't replace my screen with an official one cause I now have problems with my speaker (low sound), my mic (apparently it's like i'm in a cave) and my touch screen sensitivity is pretty bad.

I was wondering, is there an app or a way to find out if my screen is official ? Run tests or somethings and compare it to the Huawei specifications ?

    Thanks a lot !

Xiaomi phone closes all background apps

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 12:16 AM PDT

Hello! I have a new Xiaomi Redmi 8A. I really like it so far, but I ran into a problem. While playing a game or just being on discord and I go on another app eather drops the call in discord's case or just completely closes the game if someone calls me for example. Same thing with youtube but it sometimes closes it even if i'm in it. Oh and spotify... anyway, you get the idea. I even went to "App battery saver" in settings and put those apps on "No restrictions". I'd appreciate it if you can help me with this annoying matter. Thanks in advance!

Edit: u/SeparateOne1 's reply did it for me

[Xiaomi Redmi 4X] - Forgot pattern lock, please help, got a lot of memories i don't want to lose

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 10:15 AM PDT

I changed my lock pattern while drunk because my gf was comming back home and I didn't want her snopping around my phone (she did it b4). Can't remember the pattern, all i know is it is pretty complex. I've been unlocking with fingerprint for some days now. But today i got an unexpected "enter your password once at least every 72 hours" and now im screwed. I've built some easy android apps b4, pretty basic stuff. Read somewhere it might be possible to bypass this with the ADB? I'm pretty sure the phone has USB Debugging enabled

    Phone crashing with pink glitches.

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 10:08 AM PDT

So my phone started crashing a lot out of nowhere and got weird pink glitches before crashing,it won't start again for a while after shutting down. I uninstalled all unwanted apps but it still kept happening. Now I had a few whatsapp conversations with some strangers i met on reddit, but i am pretty sure I didn't share anything or used any weird links. But the weird part is this: I went to notes and typed"i know you are hacking my phone, and I want you to stop,Now!"(not those exact words) and it stopped. My phone started functioning properly like before but it happened once again before typing this and I am a little concerned cuz I used my password a lot in that time.I don't think i was actually hacked but i need to be precautious. What actually happened to my phone?

How can I make a app to run a command on Android

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 05:59 AM PDT

So the use case for this app is to enable adb via wifi on the oculus quest (witch runs Android) without plugging it into a computer first. Generally you would have to first plug it in and connect to it via usb then run adb tcpip 5555 but I am trying to do it without plugging it in first.

    Wizard setup

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 05:59 AM PDT

I saw stuff about the Wizard Setup being malicious , is that true ? I'm using an A70 running Android 10 and in system apps I have Samsung Setup Wizard and SetupWizardLegalProvider , are they malicious in any way ? I even did a factory reset but they're still here Also I don't know if it has to do with any of this but I keep seeing random download manager notifications that go away right as I try to look at what it's downloading
