Android Questions: Browser sending me to Google play rather than reddit app

Browser sending me to Google play rather than reddit app

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 10:37 AM PDT

Hey guys, im having a wierd issue with my Samsung Galaxy X. It used to be that I could open a link to a reddit post on my phone and it would automatically go to the reddit app.

Now when I click on one, it instead opens the play store page for the reddit app, and if I then click the "open" button for the app it opens Reddit, but not to the page I was trying to open.

Because of this, i have to instead read certain reddit links in the web browser, which is not idea.

Attempts to Google the issue only resulted in people clicking on spam links.

My phone doesn't seem to save all the pictures I download

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 03:49 AM PDT

I have to transfer photos from my PC to my phone. Doing it online is way more convenient than by cable. However, most of the times for some reason the phone doesn't retain all the photos downloaded. For example, I download 7 files, I see a notification that they're all downloading, they all finish, but then once I actually go to see the photos, sometimes only 4 or 5 are there. Some are missing. I have to repeat the process until somehow it magically works, but this is annoying.

I've been doing this with Google Drive, but today I got tired of this problem and decided to switch to DropBox, but the exact same thing happen. This time it got even less photos, 3 out of 7, even though they all downloaded! Any idea how can I fix this? It's not a space issue and I see the notification that each photo was downloaded. I have a Pixel 3A.

Improve battery with changing network type

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 11:19 AM PDT

    Hello there,

I'm trying to get better battery life on my phone and I saw I change the network type. I use 4G for internet and maybe 3G,not sure. 2G is discontinued. I upload the options available: this and this. That one selected is the default one, which other do you recommend me to try? Or if is worth to switch?

Is there any way to save files with the same extension to one folder?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 10:55 AM PDT

For example, if I download a .epub file, is there a way where I can make it automatically save in /sdcard/books ?

Prevent one Google account from Gmail app access without removing it the entire phone.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 10:50 AM PDT

I have 2 accounts on my phone, my work account and personal account.

This is my second phone, one I use for work. I do NOT want my personal emails to appear on here, but I still want to use the Google Play store to install apps I've paid for. Everything works fine - Except Gmail. I cannot find a way to prevent that second account from getting added to Gmail without removing the account completely from the phone.

This is a Samsung phone running Android 9.

Strange Storage Capacity and Access Errors

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 10:48 AM PDT

Hi all, so I have a Moto Z Play running Android 8 that I've had for about 3 years now, and have had next to no problems with it until now. However, over the last few months, I've encountered bizarre errors where I cannot download apps or take photos due to an error stating "Your internal storage is running out of space. Delete some images or other files"...even though I'm currently only utilizing 62% of my storage capacity (32 GB). When this error first started popping up, I would typically just delete some extra photos, maybe an unused app or two, clear app cache, and maybe reboot, which would always fix the issue. Now, this approach isn't working, and I'm not sure what else to do... Has anyone encountered an error like this before?

For what it's worth, I did come across this post from yesterday, but it appears their error was strictly with the Play Store, so it wasn't enough for my problem...

Along with this, I'm also having trouble accessing my file system via Windows. My device is recognized when I switch the USB mode to file transfer, but Windows displays it as if the device is empty. I feel like I'm missing something obvious, but would anyone know how to solve this as well? I tried manually reinstalling the drivers for it, but that didn't have any effect either. Any ideas?

Also, would anyone know what could be causing these two strange issues? Could I have a corrupt partition or something? Can't really think of any other explanation for this...

    Thanks.

Why Android doesn't allow setting a default Google account?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 08:17 AM PDT

It's so irritating when my work and personal accounts get mixed. In every Google app I had to switch to the default one.

    Bricked my Alcatel 3v (Help)

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 08:09 AM PDT

DISCLAIMER: I do not recommend doing this unless you want to risk bricking your phone like me! I'm only providing detail so someone could help me out if they know what to do

So yesterday I was messing around with my Alcatel 3V (Model 5099Y)

    Full specs: Here

I tried flashing a custom Generic System Image ROM of Android 11 R using fastboot on my PC (I used ADB and fastboot to unlock the bootloader)

adb reboot bootloader fastboot oem unlock

I choose Volume Down to select option "unlock"

It rebooted within 3 seconds and the "Alcatel, powered by Android" in white was shown, with tiny text in the middle left that says (all in white):

    Orange State

Your device has been unlocked and cannot be trusted

Your device will boot in 5 seconds

5 seconds later, the blue alcatel text show up and a few more seconds I'm on my phone except it was factory reset in the process (userdata was deleted) which was no big deal because my data was backed up in the cloud so it only took 5 minutes or so to get everything back how it was.

I enabled developer mode and enabled USB Debugging. The option for unlock OEM was greyed out and said something along the lines of "Already unlocked"

    I rebooted it into bootloader

    adb reboot bootloader

I erased the system and deleted all the partitions using fastboot

    fastboot erase system

    Output:

\******* Did you mean to fastboot format this ext4 partition?*

    Erasing 'system' OKAY [ 0.309s]

    Finished. Total time: 0.324s

    I flashed a generic A-Only GSI (I think my device supports A-Only)

    fastboot flash system Generic-Aonly-10-20191007-ErfanGSI.img

The output was something along the lines of:

Sending sparse 'system' 1/17 (131068 KB)

    Writing 'system'

Sending sparse 'system' 2/17 (XXXXX KB)

    Writing 'system'

    up to 17.

    fastboot reboot

    Flash failed.

When I restarted my phone it showed the "Alcatel, powered by android" in white, but the next screen it shows a text in the bottom left corner "=> FASTBOOT mode...", the text is tiny. Nothing else is visible, the background is black.

I tried to enter recovery mode in the phone with power button and volume up and it doesnt exist. When I hold the power button it always reboots, it wont shut down until the battery is completely dead. From this point on ADB says that theres no devices connected. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I have no custom recovery installed and I didn't perform any system backup.

Here are the versions of fastboot and ADB I am using:

    fastboot --version

    Output:

    fastboot version 29.0.1-5644136

    Installed as C:\Users\XXXXXX\Desktop\fastboot\fastboot.exe

    adb --version

    Output:

    Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.41

    Version 29.0.1-5644136

    Installed as C:\Users\XXXXXX\Desktop\fastboot\adb.exe

"only official binaries are allowed to be flashed" error on splash screen W/O download mode

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 07:07 AM PDT

So when I try to boot up my phone depending on wether the USB is connected or not or how do I want to boot the following happens:

So to shorten all the things I've donde I'll make a chronological list:

    1. Install TWRP.
    2. Flash RMM bypass and Magisk.
    3. Use it on a daily basis with the stock rom 8.0.
    4. Back up all my data to my SD card with Titan BackUp and TWRP.
    5. Flash PA6 ROM using TWRP
    6. seems to work fine until I try to make a call and it doesn't recognise my SIM card
    7. I flash stock rom 9.0 using ODIN
    8. I flash TWRP using ODIN
    9. I flash PA6 ROM using TWRP
    10. works fine so I restore my TWRP backup (only storage partition)

This is a simple 'in a nutshell' list I've done, it is missing dalvik, cache wipings, factory resets and the like, if they are necessary please let me know.

I already know once I am able to flash anything via ODIN I'll install the stockrom, then TWRP and later PA6 ROM and install every app by myself

I tried wiping cache tried factory resetting note: had the UV glue screen protector that I removed 2 days after the problem started happening, could've contributed to the problem, idk please help!

    Touchscreen stopped working

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 12:20 PM PDT

Hi guys. I have a Google Pixel 2 and from one day to another the touchscreen stopped working; last night I was using it without problem and today I woke up and the screen was unresponsive. The screen isn't broken, it doesn't have any visible problem. I tryied to put it under secure mode, and nothing. Factory reset, and nothing. But I just noticed that while in fastboot mode, it says Console is DISABLED and the Device State is Locked. I don't know how that happened. Any ideas on how to fix this? Is Sunday and my city is under quarantine so I won't find a technician any time soon :/ and I need this thing to work -.-

    (no screenshots because obvious reasons).

    Thanks.

    Cannot close PlayStore anymore

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 06:19 AM PDT

    Hello,

not sure what happened, but since yesterday I cannot close the PlayStore anymore. In the applications list, a lock appeared next to the title (see screenshot) and when I try to swipe it up to close, it will not close.

    https://i.imgur.com/ebGPtRn.jpg

Other things I tried to close it:

    • Use "Close Apps", which will close all apps except play store
    • Reboot the phone, but the Play Store will be open immediately
    • Go to app settings and use "Force Close" on the Play Store, there is no error, but it also has no effect

Is this a new thing now that the Play Store has to remain open all the time? I find this to be quite annoying and would like to get rid of it. Some info about my phone:

    • OnePlus 6 (A6003) with stock images, fully updated
    • Android 10
    • OxygenOS 10.3.4

Yellow Tint on Realme XT Lockscreen

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 11:17 AM PDT

Sony Xperia Xz3 Alarm Clock malfunction

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 10:23 AM PDT

    Hello Guys

I have a xperia xz3 for quite a bit now. Recently my alarm clock won't ring on Mondays. But only on Mondays. I reset my app and reactivated it but it's still not ringing. It says: alarm rings in XX hours when I reactivate it. But it won't show that the alarm is active on lockscreen and neither is it ringing in XX hours the next morning. Anyone heard of something like that?

New Galaxy 20 Ultra 5G has given me nothing but issues. Help.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 10:12 AM PDT

So I have had an iphone since the 4 came out. I recently decided to make the switch to Android. Since then, I have had nothing but issues. I understand it's an entirely new operating system to get used to. That isn't the issue.

The first issue (and most annoying): Badge App icons. I have my notifications set to where I only receive the badge app icons for things like Facebook, Twitter, news apps, etc. Let's say for example Facebook badge shows i have 3 notifications. I will click on it. View the notifications. Then close the app out. The 3 notification badge is still there. I have restarted the phone. Reinstalled the app. Cleared cache. Etc. The ONLY thing that works, but its an inconvenience is EVERY time I have to clear cache and force stop on the app. Every. Single. Time. And it is all my apps that I have notifications on for.

Another problem is the battery life. It is not good. I keep all background apps closed. Even keep off Bluetooth and locations. Still. For a brand new phone, I only get about 6 hours of battery life.

The processing time on the phone is also EXTREMELY slow. I have very good wifi and it is on nearly dial up speed. I've tried using only my data for it as well. Same issue. Extremely slow. And this is just for doing simple things such as Googling.

The apps, especially chrome, freeze a lot. The keyboard glitches and freezes up a lot as well.

Also, when i make a video in selfie mode, the camera constantly automatically zooms in and out trying to refocus constantly throughout the video.

I have Verizon. My phone/system is completely up to date.

Is there anything I can do to fix these issues? I was so excited about this phone and so far i am so disappointed. Does anyone else have these issues?

Is there any way to remove the scroll bar from Android apps?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 10:10 AM PDT

I don't like the fact that some apps have the scroll bar and others don't. It makes for an inconsistent experience. I'd like it if I could simply remove it from all apps. Does anyone know whether it can be done?

Wiping a phone that's stuck in bootloop?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 09:06 AM PDT

My 1st gen Pixel XL full on died yesterday out of nowhere, to the point where it's stuck in a loop of trying to start Android but it can't even get into recovery mode. Research tells me it's probably a hardware failure and it's not worth trying to salvage.

I've accepted the phone is completely beyond repair, but I'm wondering if there's still any way I should go about clearing the storage before I turn it in for recycling?
