    Which Android TV Box

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 07:17 AM PDT

I'm looking for a new Android TV box for the bedroom. I've an Nvidia Shield in the lounge and had a non-Android TV Beelink android box in the bedroom which has recently died. I need something which has spdif/toslink out as my audio setup in the bedroom requires this. Hence another Shield or one of the Xiaomi boxes are out. I'm seeing the Minix Neo T5 and also a few boxes from Mecool have spdif/toslink out. Anyone recommend these, or any other alternatives? Whatever box I buy will be used for standard stuff like Disney/YouTube/Netflix and for watching movies on my USB external drive.

    Cheers

OnePlus is launching new TVs in midrange and budget segment. Isn't that against OnePlus's premium philosophy?

Slow Wifi and Google Home Cannot Play Netflix Videos.

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 10:46 PM PDT

    Hey Guys,

For 2 months My Mi Box S Wifi doesn't go above 30mbps in download and upload goes at full speed. I have tried reset router and box but still doesn't go above 30mbps. I have a 200mbps connection. Earlier it used to touch 90mbps. Do anyone have this issue?

After resetting the box now when I try to play Netflix video via voice command through Google Home it says CANNOT PLAY NETFLIX ON ANDROID TV YET. This is weird it was working fine.

Any Idea what to do or how to fix it ?

Sony KD-55XE8096 suddenly crashing/rebooting when streaming

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 02:07 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

a couple days ago, my Sony KD-55XE8096 started behaving oddly when streaming Netflix or Amazon: there will be an unusual amount of compression artifacts (blockyness) and eventually the app will either crash back to the home screen, or, more likely, the TV will do one or two reboots. Haven't been able to capture a logcat of that happening, unfortunately.

Most of the time playback will be possible after the reboots are done, but sometimes a powercycle will be necessary.

(Forced) factory reset does not help. I have the suspicion that the mainboard is at fault, unlucky for me the warranty expired in 11/2019 :(

Does any of you have an idea what else I could try?

    Thanks!

Edit: Logcat of Prime Video crash https://pastebin.com/LYnjKw8t

Jetstream 4k (AGT418) Dead - Anyone been there?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 12:27 PM PDT

My Jetstream 4k (AGT418) has finally died. It refuses to boot, flashes the blue led for a second or two then goes back to red. Anyone have advice on how to resurrect this box? It's been good to me for a long time and hate to see it die this kind of death. I've tried using the reset pinhole between the USB ports - does nothing. Wanted to crack her open but didn't find any obvious screw holes, do the halves just snap together? Tried to connect with ADB via IP address but that failed too - I'm not sure if ADB was enabled or not.

Good Android TV box with Built in 3.5" HD Bay?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 02:38 PM PDT

I used to have an old Popcorn Hour A-110 network media tank that I got back in 2009 but it has since become very obsolete as it could handle only h264 files. I liked it because I was able to install a large hard-drive and I could install certain apps like a version of Transmission that I could use via web interface. I want a modern version of that, that can take a 3.5" hd(so I can slap in a huge 6-8 TB hard drive) and that can handle Transmission or another torrent client that has a web interface(so I save time by picking torrents to download while I am at work from my Iphone).

    1) Does anyone know a good set-top Android TV box that has a built in hard drive bay?

Does the new Shield TV Pro have a hd bay? Is that what they mean by this?

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/shield/shield-tv-pro/
Expandable using USB flash or hard drives.

It seems too small to have a built in bay.

    2) Is it even possible with android to run a headless torrent seed box and still watch movies like I could even do with my old Popcorn Hour back in 2009?
