Android Questions: Disabling calls to one number if you have two.

Disabling calls to one number if you have two.

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 07:32 AM PDT

I got two numbers, one acts as a dummy number that I only use for two-way authentification and a 2nd one that I actually use to call people.

Is there a way to block any calls to the dummy number?

    Solution:

    under phone

    " Phone - >settings - >call settings - > choose sim - >call barring "

It might required to enter a password by default it is either 1234 or 0000

    4:3 video recording?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 12:16 AM PDT

Is there a way to record at 4:3 aspect ratio? The sensor it self is 4:3 so 16:9 ratio really crops in the sensor and it loses a lot of details. 1:1 yields the best quality because it doesn't really crop in too much in the sensor. S20 Ultra btw. Would be sweet to record at full quality

I have an Unusual icon in the notification bar. Does anyone recognize it?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 10:24 PM PDT

Here's a cropped screenshot of the icon in question. https://i.imgur.com/zVArMCS.png

This is a Blackberry Key2 LE on Verizon.

As far as I can tell there's nothing wrong. I have service, and can call and text as normal. Bluetooth and wifi connect just fine. I'm just wondering what the icon means.

    Note 9 using wrong speaker.

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 09:43 AM PDT

I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read. My note 9 for example, in discord when I am in a call it uses my phone speaker and I need to put the phone up to my head to hear it, instead of using the actual loud speaker. The app didn't used to do this? Is there a setting somewhere that I can fix this? It's not just discord it's also effecting my schooling any help would be very much appreciated.

Why no 1440p option showing on YouTube on tablet with a 2560x1600 display. It used to a year back.

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 09:15 AM PDT

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition model number SM-P600. I picked up the tablet after sitting around for a while never being used, then I remembered it could handle 1440p video on youtube and I remember its visual fidelity. But then it forced me to update youtube and I haven't been able to have the 1440p option on videos that had the option. I thought it could have been the ancient os that was running (5.1.1 lollipop), so I installed the latest stable custom rom for it (7.1.1 Resurrection Remix Lineage LuisRom) and rooted it using magisk, but still no option for it. I tried finding fixes online, but no good solution, except for installing Youtube newpipe, which i didn't like because the interface sucked and it was hard to use with no increase in visual fidelity. If you guys have a solution, please tell me. It doesn't have to be rootless it can be as risky as possible, because I know my way around rooting and using the custom TWRP recovery now.

What do you use for custom notification vibrations?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 12:41 PM PDT

I read that good vibrations isn't supported on newer android software. Just got an S10+ and not a fan of all the notifications vibrating with the same intensity. I can't find a way to properly customize it..any tips? 3rd party apps (that don't run the battery too heavily)? Thanks!

how do i change my wav player?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 11:11 AM PDT

When I open audio/wav files that I've just downloaded it opens in some nasty looking interface. It just says My Files at the top, so either that's some kinda built in player or something else is opening that I' not aware of. I'd like to open it in something like Samsung Music. How do I do so? I've googled, seen the whole default apps / clear defaults thing, but I'm obviously missing something. Help!

how to back up folders of pix

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 06:44 AM PDT

With google photos there doesn't seem to be a way to save files by directory. At least not that I know of.

I have a folder of less important pix that I'd like to backup so I can delete from my phone. But I dont want 100 pictures to just cloud up all the pictures I already have in google photos. I'd much rather they be put in a special directory labelled Less Important.

Is there a way of doing this?

SD Card not accessible in some/most applications (Android 8.0.0)

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 10:01 AM PDT

I switched to a larger SD card (32 GB > 128 GB) and cannot access the new card or even the formerly used one in most applications. No changes in storage config or any system updates were done.

SD card mounted and recognised in system settings and file manager.

On one hand the SD card is not accessible in e.g. osmand or spotify or komoot or pretty much any other application (e.g. AndExplorer, DiskUsage, ...)

On the other hand photo / gallery apps (stock Sony, Google, and third party open source) see it, e.g. smt gallery 6.8.2.

It seems to me some apps interpret /storage/emulated/0 as a link back to the built-in 32G memory instead of the external 128G SD card.

I tried so far without any changes in symptoms or results:

    • formatting the card in the phone, using the built-in wizard when inserting a new blank card
    • rebooting the device (in the last few days more than in the last few years...)
    • changing the file system on the new and old card from exFAT to FAT32 and vice versa
    • manually pointing some of the apps (where possible) to /storage/emulated/0 or the older/deprecated /storage/nnnn-nnnn/ paths

All cards are working, tested in card reader on Linux and Windows, also the SD card is visible (r/w) if I connect the phone via USB to a PC.

    Specs:

    • Sony Xperia Compact (F5321), Android 8.0.0, not rooted
    • MicroSDXC 128GB, Transcend 300S
    • different Kingston SDXC 32GB cards

How can I get my phone back to using a SD card like before?

Phone not Auto-Rotating in camera app or in videos after updating to android 10

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 09:58 AM PDT

My phone is an LG G8X ThinQ. After updating to Android 10, my camera app and videos on Youtube no longer auto-rotates. I've turned on auto-rotate and apps still do not auto-rotate.

Curious if others have this problem and/or have solved this.

Thinking Of Upgrading From LG V30 to V40 or Even V50?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 09:47 AM PDT

Would you think this is a good deal for a used LG V40 unlocked model LM-V405QA7 on OfferUp. He said he would take $250 & it comes with a bunch of extra goodies. Check out this $300 OR BEST OFFER! Unlocked LG V40 & accsessories for $300 on OfferUp https://offerup.com/item/detail/884387757/ It appears to have all the bands for T-Mobile LTE 2,4,5,12,66 & 71.

He says its in good overall condition but has a small Nick on one corner of the phone. I've seen them on eBay/Amazon too for right around $200 but I thought at $250 it's a great deal? I did compare this with the LG V50 & most specs are very similar except the V50 has bigger battery, more memory & newer processor. Plus 5G but I really don't care much about that as 4G LTE seems to work for what I need it to do.

I would be upgrading from my V30 to the V40 or should I wait to get a V50 still? I'm sure they will be on the $200-300 range soon ish? Thanks for checking this out and have a great day.

How to run more than 1 app at the same time in Android Go?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 09:33 AM PDT

I use a white noise app to play rain sounds in bedtime, but I also experimented using YouTube Music to play a nice music. Unfortunately, when I open YT Music, the playback of the white noise stops and vice-versa. How to allow the two running at the same time?

    Thanks!

    Google Play Store constantly crashing

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 09:18 AM PDT

I have a Samsung Tab S6 tablet (wifi only). Shortly after the last system update, Google Play Store started crashing. In the foreground, it crashes a few seconds after launch. If it runs in the background, I get a notice that it crashed every couple minutes. I'm assuming some process wakes it in the background and it crashes in a similar time, since I don't see any apps updating. I have to disable the app to use the tablet without constant crash notifications. I mostly use it for reading, so this hasn't been too much of an inconvenience, but the apps area starting to get badly out of date.

    So far I have tried

    • Logging out of my Google Account and back in,
    • Clearing app data.
    • Resetting the app to factory and trying to let it update itself (still crashes)
    • Sideloading the most recent version of the app from another device (still crashes)
    • A virus scan on the device
    • Samsung's built in log dump tools. I found the logs, but couldn't find any error messages relating to the crashes, though there's a lot of data there.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any pointers as to where I should look in the logs? I've got the Android dev environment installed on my desktop, though I mostly use it as a device simulator. Is there a live debugging tool that would help me narrow down the problem? I'm assuming it has something to do with updating an app, but that's just a guess.

My only other thought is a factory reset, and, ugh. And that's assuming that the user data backup wouldn't just cause the problem to reoccur.

    Thanks.

System UI broken - any way to backup data before reset?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 08:39 AM PDT

My Xperia X Compact shut down and when I rebooted it, all I got was the "System UI has stopped"-notification. No SIM unlock screen or any other UI visible. Camera app is still accessible and working. USB debugging isn't enabled, the phone also isn't in mtp-mode (but is recognized by the PC).

Is there any way to create a full backup (or at least a partial backup) under these circumstances?

I tried listening to them both and didn't hear any noticable difference.

How do I become a better judge of phones cameras and photo quality?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 08:49 PM PDT

People talk all the time about the difference in camera and photo quality between iPhones, and various models of Android phones, and I keep being blind to what they see. Like for me all cameras are the same, and all photos of the same quality.

Sure I can tell between a national geographic photo and a selfie, but I lack finesse. I don't know how much megapixels matter, how to judge if a photo is good, so I lack the confidence in picking a good phone.

Why can't I set the volume of a call to 0?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 08:03 PM PDT

I had an iPhone and switched to Note 10+ using the latest Android 10 and i don't know why I cant turn off the audio call, why there is a limit to this?

EDIT 1: To clarify, I don't want necessarily turn off other person voice but I want to decide exactly how loud is it and Android don't allow that, there is a minimum volume

Is there a way to access files stored on internal memory with a broken screen?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 07:27 AM PDT

My Galaxy S7 screen broke a while ago. Touch screen stopped working followed by the screen dying and is now just completely black. Is there a way to get files on the internal memory? Every tutorial I've looked up so far has required software already installed on the device or for certain options to be turned on.
