| Fortnite for Android arrives on Play Store after Epic Games gives in to Google cut Posted: 22 Apr 2020 01:32 AM PDT "Epic Games provided the following statement on Fortnite's arrival on the Play Store to Polygon: After 18 months of operating Fortnite on Android outside of the Google Play Store, we've come to a basic realization:Google puts software downloadable outside of Google Play at a disadvantage, through technical and business measures such as scary, repetitive security pop-ups for downloaded and updated software, restrictive manufacturer and carrier agreements and dealings, Google public relations characterizing third party software sources as malware, and new efforts such as Google Play Protect to outright block software obtained outside the Google Play store. Because of this, we've launched Fortnite for Android on the Google Play Store. We'll continue to operate the Epic Games App and Fortnite outside of Google Play, too. We hope that Google will revise its policies and business dealings in the near future, so that all developers are free to reach and engage in commerce with customers on Android and in the Play Store through open services, including payment services, that can compete on a level playing field." https://9to5google.com/2020/04/21/fortnite-android-play-store/ [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 21 Apr 2020 09:39 AM PDT I just finished an An Android app as a contractor developer, and as soon as I published the app in Google play and it gaind downloads and users, they removed me from console, refuse to pay and don't answer me anywhere. all I have is the source code, which they don't have access to. going through legal processes can be so long, and probably useless here in my country. I don't know, I'm so pissed off, just need to do something about it. I was wondering if there's a way to report this to Google, and they unpublish the app? [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 22 Apr 2020 12:02 AM PDT What is the Android/iOS dev team size at your company? How many apps does the team own? I feel like 5-7 are enough for an average app. Trying to understand what do bigger teams do? [link] [comments] | ||

| Subscriptions bought outside the Play Store? Posted: 22 Apr 2020 07:54 AM PDT Hello. I am developing an application and I wanted to ask a question about whether extra features being unlocked outside the Play Store would be allowed. The app in question will be free to download and will have a basic version where the functionality is severely limited. However, I want to implement a limited subscription that can be purchased into the app where if you buy it, you will have full functionality of the app until the time you bought it for is over. The subscriptions will be verified with a token/key/serial number, similar to software you have to buy on PC. The question is whether I am allowed sell subscriptions through my own website/directly to specific organizations, and have the user enter the verification key and have the full functionality of the app, without having to go through the Play Store. I simply wish to know if this is possible according to the Play Store guidelines. This is an important functionality as I want to be able to sell lisences in bulk. [link] [comments] | ||

| Collapsingtoolbarlayout single activity Posted: 22 Apr 2020 07:11 AM PDT Quick question guys has anybody accomplished in a single activity many fragment scenario using one toolbar which is in the main activity layout to have a collapsingtoolbarlayout with appbar layout in different fragment, has anybody done this without the need to add a toolbar to each fragment just like the google docs says, I really dont like that approach. Most stackoverflow threads regarding this suggest to add a toolbar in each fragment what happens if you have an app with 20 fragments lol it seems crazy to maintain that . Thanks in advance [link] [comments] | ||
| Strange error when trying to read file from apk instead of androidstudio-emulator Posted: 22 Apr 2020 05:14 AM PDT I have an Android /Kotlin App that reads JSON from: https://www.androdocs.com/files/uploads/original/sample-json-data-1567767983.txt When I use the exact same app and read from: http://www.makumaku.de/test.txt it works from Android Studio Emulator. But if I test the apk from my mobile, I can read only from the first txt-file. The second -txt files results in a white screen. -> why is that/how can i make the second .txt-file be readable on mobile, too? thx [link] [comments] | ||

| App update still processing, 14 days after submission. Anyone else facing this issue ? Posted: 22 Apr 2020 04:18 AM PDT We submitted an update on 9th April and its still processing. Our app targets minors, so we expect a longer review time, but 14 days is still unacceptable. Before covid-19, our updates went live, as fast as 4 hours. Neither we changed anything related to app's target audience, nor did google update any policies in the meantime. Also according Google's policy, if we submit a new update, while an update is processing, they start the review process all over again. We are a fast growing startup, and such long review times, the hurt us, as we cannot quickly ship features that users ask for. Anyone else facing the same issue, or has any tips for us ? | How to play different audio files for different position in a RecyclerView, please help! Posted: 22 Apr 2020 02:48 AM PDT Hi, I've been struggling with one thing for too long that it's delaying my project. I'm fairly new so please be patient with me. I am making a phrasebook for a certain language and I use RecyclerView to show the list of phrases. Upon clicking every listitem, it should play a local audio recording of the same phrase. So how do I achieve that? How can I assign different audio files to different positions in a RecyclerView? I'm assuming after setting an OnClickListener to the CardView I'm using, I may have to link it with a folder or class that contains my audio files? Or please point me to some tutorials. | Is it worth it learning Java in 2020 for android development? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 10:56 AM PDT Hi guys I'm a 2020 passout and i was wondering if is still worth it learning Java or should i head straight to Kotlin any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. [link] [comments] | ||
| Alternatives to Udacity Developing Android Apps Posted: 22 Apr 2020 01:11 AM PDT I have started the course (completed Lesson 1 & 2) and I have to admit I hate it. I am new to app development and I am not sure if its Android Development by itself, or just me, but I really struggle with the course. I have recently done the Odin Project RubyOnRails course and the Fullstackopen React course, and I have enjoyed them on a very different level, with a much higher (perceived) learning pace. Are there any good alternatives to start learning Android Development? I'd be grateful for any suggestions. Thx! Edit: included the course link [link] [comments] | ||
| What's our workflow when choosing color for your app? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 02:54 PM PDT Hello everyone, Let's see. I built it in may a side project and now I am redesigning the site and upgrading the features. I am not an Android developer, but thanks to android I started to enjoy tech. Now my question here: That would be amazingly helpful. Thank you so much, stay safe and have a great day. /Mike [link] [comments] | ||

| Dragging items with ItemTouchHelper is broken and jumpy if paddingTop is set on recyclerview Posted: 21 Apr 2020 11:57 AM PDT I've searched on issuetracker and I found a 5 year old report but it has never been fixed. How is it possible that this bug has been reported only once? [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 21 Apr 2020 11:22 AM PDT We keep Firebase instance id token in our backend DB. Time to time, some Firebase instance id token will expire/ invalid. We wish to have a reliable way, to determine which Firebase instance id token is expire/ invalid, so that we can remove them from our DB. One of the features in our app is that, we need to inform his accounts is associate with how many devices (Each device should have only 1 valid Firebase instance id token). Due to our unreliable method of detecting expired/ invalid token, we report way more number of devices, than his actual device. Currently, we are using dry_run FCM send method, to determine the validity of a Firebase instance id token - https://stackoverflow.com/questions/61337876/a-reliable-approach-to-validate-a-firebase-token-id-besides-performing-dry-run Although this seems like a common requirement, but there isn't a clear way how to do so, from official documentation. I was wondering, has anyone of you had such requirement too? Do you mind to share with me, on how do you do so? [link] [comments] | ||
