Posted: 20 Dec 2020 06:41 AM PST Hi! And thanks for the help. I have a problem with my TV, only accepts pure 4K (3.840 x 2.160). Many videos I have been 3840x1XXX and can't reproduce it. Is there an easy option to add black bars to fit all resolutions. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

Backup, Restore and Remove apps from the Android TV Posted: 19 Dec 2020 02:08 PM PST I've just been through a firmware update of my Philips Android TV today, including reinstalling the TV from fresh after upgrade. Because of the hassle in reinstalling the TV from scratch, I decided to make some Linux BASH scripts to help with backing up specific APK and their data; reinstalling each APK and its data; and removal of individual bloatware apps; all via ADB. If anyone is interested the code can be found here : https://github.com/kaipee/android-backup-removal [link] [comments]
Audio must go through my wired headphone Posted: 20 Dec 2020 06:32 AM PST I want to cast videos on my Nvidia Shield TV from my phone, but I want the audio coming through my headphone instead of my TV. Does anyone knows how to do that? I tried connecting the headphones to my Xbox controller instead as well, but it's still not working. I use the Xbox controller as a remote controller for my Android TV device. I do not have a bluetooth headphone. [link] [comments]
Chromecast Ultra vs Android tv Posted: 19 Dec 2020 07:11 PM PST I recently received a Chromecast Ultra for free and decided to play music ( KEXP) from YouTube on the ultra. The image looks a lot better than when streaming from my Sony XBR X 900E with Android TV. Why is this? I can't go back to the Android TV after seeing this. Will nvidia shield give me similar results as the chromecast ultra? Because I like having the menu from the tv w remote available. Does it have something to do with vp9.2? Thanks for any help! How to (sort of) remove home screen ads from Android TV Posted: 20 Dec 2020 03:36 AM PST Okay, so I had held off on updating my Mi Box S, but accidentally let it update it's Android one day, and bam, I couldn't roll back the Home app any more. From the bottom of my heart, FUCK YOU GOOGLE. Okay, on to the solution. It's somewhat jank, but it works. You'll need two apps: Button Mapper and ATV Launcher. Install these from the Play Store (or sideload them, but they should both be certified for Android TV). Next set up Button Mapper and remap the home button to App>ATV Launcher (this is necessary since you can't set a home app in Android settings). Now, set up ATV Launcher to your liking. You'll need to check "app wallpaper" if you're on a Mi Box S or other ATV device. Now, upon pressing the home button, I have a clean, simple home screen with all my apps and no damn ads or uneccessary clutter. (with the exception of the ATV Launcher logo, which I would happily pay to remove, but alas). BTW, yes I realize I could use ADB to make this a little cleaner. However, I didn't want something that required connecting to a computer in any way, and in the end this setup works beautifully. I also went one step further and force killed the Android TV Home app, and after doing so everything on my box is more responsive. Crazy. EDIT: It would seem killing the normal home app tenders Google Assistant commands (pause, volume, tv power) inoperable. If anyone finds a workaround for this, please let me know! Please ask any questions or roast me for buying a Mi Box S. I deserve it. [link] [comments]
Trying to get LED strips to use screen data Posted: 19 Dec 2020 08:19 AM PST How would I go about getting the screen data to the led box/strip I have connected to my android tv? I'm using the android Ambilight application, but whenever I select screen capture, it only captures UI elements, like the input box that pops up when I change inputs. It doesn't seem to capture anything else from the screen, and seeing as the whole reason I bought it is to use it with my xbox, it's pretty useless right now. Any help would be appreciated! Anyone else running an alternative YouTube app whose button is misbehaving? Posted: 19 Dec 2020 11:11 AM PST I installed Smart YouTube and used the free version of Button Mapper to map my remote's YouTube button to open that instead. It worked great for a couple weeks. Since yesterday whenever I press it I'm brought to the YouTube app selection screen, which says, "Select your favorite YouTube app." There's only the default YouTube app as an option; I don't have YT Music or YT Kids installed. Is this due to a recent update? Is anyone else dealing with this? And, if so, does anyone know a fix? [link] [comments]

TCL Android TV is Terrible and I'm confused Posted: 19 Dec 2020 09:59 AM PST For something that I thought should be simple and work seamless with the Google Home ecosystem, I'm very disappointed in the TCL with Android TV experience. I finally gave up on Android TV and now I can't pair the remote of my CCwGTv with the TCL (says it's not supported). Why I'm giving up on AndroidTV:
I bought into an Android TV because I'm trying to stick with the Google Home ecosystem, am I crazy for thinking this should have worked better than a Roku TV? I guess I'll be going back to a Roku TV, at least it will work with my CCwGTv (just seems stupid to buy a smart TV then have to plug an external device into it to change the software platform).
