Google changed something with the Gmail app. I don't know what exactly but it now syncs with my account photo properly.

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 10:53 AM PST

For the past ten years, the Gmail app has not displayed my (or anyone else I've asked or looked at) contact photo. Mine was always blank in email threads and group messages and all that. The only fix was adding myself as a contact.

I got an email just now, my sixth of the day, and when I opened Gmail unlike the other times I got a splash screen, Google asked me if I wanted to add more accounts, and when I got back to my Inbox my face photo was in all the emails instead of the first letter of my name.

Don't know what Google did, but I'm glad they did it!!

    You guys remember CyanogenMod?

So I noticed this in the beginning of episode 2 of the Netflix show Don't F*** with Cats they were mimicking a computer booting up as part of a story and I noticed CyanogenMod in the boot up sequence

    It was very random.

Why Android should lock the software version at 10 just like Windows and provide future updates to all devices manufactured 2020 onwards!

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 09:27 PM PST

Software updates are becoming less revolutionary as years go by. Sure we are getting cosmetic updates like Dark Mode, Gestures, etc (but this could have been easily provided as updates under the same version of Android, gone are the days when each new updates used to completely change the UI of phone making your phone look fresh)

Microsoft did a brilliant move by locking Windows to Windows 10 and guaranteeing all future updates under the 10 series to every desktop

I think Android should do the same. I think smartphones have reached their peak design form as in bezelless edge to edge display. Overall the UI of Android has been more or less settled for.

I think Android 10 should be the last Android series software. All future updates should be rolled under Android 10 series itself.

I think in 2020, Smartphones have reached at that stage of computer processing (SD 865 onwards) whereby a smartphone can probably handle updates for next 5 years

(even if you make the case that it doesn't, maybe limit the software update version for specific devices)

(For Example - OnePlus 8 might get updates till 10.8.2 whereas OnePlus 9 might get updates till 10.9.7)

I think doing so would ensure faster software updates across all OEM in general and reduce the fragmentation seen in Android Ecosystem. Also by not making every new cosmetic updates as a brand new Android software, OEMs will actually be pressured to provide updates for atleast 4-5 years since it's all Android 10 updates afterall
