Always on display randomly stops working + fingerprint lock works despite being disabled Posted: 20 Jan 2020 06:46 AM PST -Specs are listed at the end of the text- Good morning/afternoon/night everyone! I am here with an issue I've researched for weeks to no avail. I searched this sub before posting and did not find a thread that seems to talk about it. After the latest system update, the always-on display randomly stops working, in addition to the fingerprint unlock feature working despite it being disabled in the settings. Here are the solutions I tried.
For the fingerprint unlock working even though it's disabled in the settings:
For the lock issue, note that sometimes, the comfort view fix I apply for the always on display SOMETIMES fixes it, too. So I feel like these two bugs are related. I am aware that deleting my fingerprint data will settle this, but I'd like to know if I can do anything else before resorting to this. SPECIFICATIONS Can provide more if needed. Thanks everyone! Problems with Play Store on Nokia 5.1 Posted: 20 Jan 2020 03:00 AM PST I use a Nokia 5.1 and it's been great so far. For the past month I haven't been able to download new apps or update old ones on Play Store. I hoped it was a minor glitch and would be fixed soon. Yesterday I ended up resetting my phone hoping I would be able to download again but I can't. I've tried with both WiFi and mobile data but it doesn't work...any ideas are appreciated [link] [comments] |
Why isn't the music playlist widget working? And why does the app have less features? Posted: 20 Jan 2020 07:04 AM PST I had a music widget on my home screen synced from my old phone, and nothing seemed to change regardless of what song was played: it was frozen on one playlist. I removed the widget to try resetting it, but now only one song shows up regardless of how big I make it, and when I start a playlist it still shows the same song. I also noticed that Samsung Music says it's the latest version but has less features. On my A5 it had a genre category, different mix effects (e.g. surround sound) and a dark theme, but on my A80 it has none of those.
This isn't the main concern, but emails aren't showing up either. I've had the phone for a month and it still says I have no emails at all on four different accounts. They show up on Gmail, but not the default app. [link] [comments] |
Device appears rooted even if it isnt? Posted: 20 Jan 2020 07:09 AM PST A year ago i bought a new Samsung phone (Galaxy C8 SM-C7108) and i had some problems with it (cant manually check for android updates, random crashes, "threat found" alert constantly in the system memory cleaner app). I didnt find these problems too bad and i didnt pay too much attention to them until today, when I tried to log in to my bank's mobile app. I cant open it because "it is locked for devices which have admin protection removed for security reasons". Same for the mcdonals app: "your device did not pass the security check. Please check that you run a google trusted OS version, that the device is not rooted and that you have no harmful apps installed." I downloaded some root checking apps from play store that confirmed that my phone isnt rooted. Also in playstore's settings it says my device is not play protect certified. I should note that i imported the phone from china (to Europe). Also i never tried to root my phone and i never downloaded any apps from untrusted sources. Is there anything i could do to fix it or does my warranty cover any of these issues? [link] [comments] |
Is there any way to permanently reduce the screen size to increase bezel ? Posted: 20 Jan 2020 09:30 AM PST Wanna buy a new phone but all the avialable ones (at reasonable price) are these huge bezel-less monsters (eg: Samsung A20) where I end up pressing unwanted apps, buttons, etc. (current phone is 5") Is there any way I can, like, permanently lock the upper and bottom parts (like maybe 0.5cm up and down) so the bezels would be like an iphone 7 and not like iphone 10? Posted: 20 Jan 2020 12:00 PM PST Please help. So I'm gonna reuse my little sisters old tablet. Except when I reset it (I think through recovery) it gave me the dreaded 'This device was reset' message upon set up. Now I need the email that my little sister used to log in. Except, I dont have it and neither does she. I've looked at all the yuoutibe tutorials with a bypass method but none work, this tablet has the AOSP keyboard, not the Google one. Please help. Tablet is Bush Spira B3 8" (from what I gather its a rebranded Archos AC80 or something to that effect) [link] [comments] |
Use wide angle/telephoto camera during videocalls (WhatsApp/Google Duo/Facebook) Posted: 20 Jan 2020 11:58 AM PST I am not sure if this is the right subreddit but here's my question. Is there any way to use wide angle lens during a videocall? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Jan 2020 11:57 AM PST Running LineageOS 7.1.2 on harpia. I've been battling this one for a couple years. I have a home router with a server and occasionally my laptop connected to it. If I use my hotspot, my phone can connect to the internet and to those devices. However, my laptop will have long-running jobs with the server while I am away and a hotspot is not possible. It doesn't work because Android only allows traffic to be routed through LAN or LTE, not both. If I turn off my data, I can suddenly SSH into my server. I turn data back on, and I can't connect anymore even though the wifi is "connected". I thought I had a breakthrough when I found these ADB global settings: https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/186993/captive-portal-parameters The captive_portal_mode flag disables the internet check on wifi networks, preventing Android from saying "hey this network has no internet so I'm going to refuse to use it because the LTE has internet." With that flag unset I was able to connect to the LAN even with LTE on! Then I quickly discovered that though LTE is still on, Android refuses to route through it (must be sending external requests to the LAN gateway) -_- It basically turns my problem the other direction. There is also a flag that looked promising, mobile_data_always_on, but unfortunately that does not change switching behavior, only makes the switch from wifi to LTE more instantaneous because the LTE stays active but disabled. Please if anyone knows of a way to split local->wifi / internet-bound->LTE traffic on Android that would be fantastic. This looks relevant, but I'm not sure where that would go in developer options or how to modify it for my OS. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Jan 2020 05:17 AM PST I've recently bought an Android phone after upgrading from an iPhone 6 and can't for the life of me find a way to make the auto correct more aggressive than it is currently. I've downloaded Gboard as the default keyboard barely did any autocorrecting but it still isn't anywhere near as aggressive as the autocorrect on my previous iPhone 6. It routinely leaves in very simple spelling errors particularly in longer words and I was wondering if there's anyway to fix this issue and make the autocorrect more aggressive? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Is there any specific reason why Google don't allow gestures on third party launchers? Posted: 20 Jan 2020 05:17 AM PST Quickstep is so basic, there is literally 0 customization and there is no way i will ever switch from Nova just so i can use gestures. Why is Google forcing this? Fast Forwarding or Skipping ADs Posted: 20 Jan 2020 08:33 AM PST Firstly want to apologize if this has been asked before. I did a quick search but found nothing relevant. Secondly, to avoid misunderstandings, I'm not asking about blocking ads, I've got that working. My question is, if it's possible to skip or fast forward ads so that it still counts as watching them. As many of you may know, some applications offer bonuses for certain games if you watch x number of ads. These ads can be 10 seconds long, some even a minute. Which is ok, however when you need to watch 10 or more, it's pretty atrocious. So do any of you know if it's possible to do this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Jan 2020 08:32 AM PST My title choices were terrible and that's all I could decide on lol K so here's the problem, I can't download ANYTHING from Google Play Store. I'm sure there is a string somewhere about this but I can't find a solution. I've seen multiple threads that all have the same suggestions but nothing works My phone is the One Plus 7 pro, everything up to date ( tried even going back to previous update) I'm not using a VPN I've made sure I have enough space ( 200 GBs free) I've cleared my cache and data for Google play store I've cleared everything for Google services I've logged out of and reset ALL my accounts I've restarted the phone ( obvious but someone will tell me to do it if I don't mention it) I've checked my date and time settings I've used both WiFi and mobile data ( yes it's fast enough) I've uninstalled Google play updates I've checked to see if I missed ant updates AND Ive done a factory reset on the phone NOTHING WORKS. Ughhgh. Does anyone have an idea of what I can do? Most downloads sit "waiting for download" whereas some download to a certain point and stop sitting at whatever percentage it's at Anyone want to be my hero? [link] [comments] |
Rooting android 9 on huawei p smart Posted: 20 Jan 2020 07:56 AM PST Is it possible to root android 9 on huawei p smart without installing external software? I vaguely remember there was some kind of procedure where you had to go to Settings > System and click something several times but I'm not sure if that was rooting or something else nor what exactly the procedure was. Posted: 20 Jan 2020 06:47 AM PST I have a LG k10 new version (model LGm250ds) and my PIN is not working it does not recognize when I type to unlock my screen, and I am 100% sure I'm type the correct PIN, I was even using the cellphone till it blocked and didn't unlock anymore. what is weirder though is that even if I was typing the wrong PIN, it doesn't block due to multiple attempts. so I can unlock with my google account i can't use recover mode because my volume buttons are not working are there any terminal or programmatic way I can recover my cellphone, maybe using ADB? the device is not rooted, I tried using Kingo Root and it failed, is that because a can't unlock the screen?? Do I need to root to do it? Can I root my phone without unlocking my screen? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Jan 2020 06:41 AM PST Hello. A few months earlier, I gained an interest in getting an ION iCade to play my favorite retro games with the satisfying use of the clicky joystick and buttons on my Android device (of course, it was for iOS, but I knew it could pair with Android). The original upright model was a bit too pricy for me, but I later found an iCade Core at almost $30; given that, I bought it. A few days ago, I picked it up from the post office and unboxed it at home. Very great condition, but there was a catch: it didn't actually paired with my devices, not even the one that has Android Jelly Bean! Doing further research, I found this USB/BT Joycenter app that seems to support it and for newer Android versions like Nougat, Oreo, etc. Only thing is that it needs a uinput folder inside the dev folder of the root of the device, which happens to be on custom roms. I have the following devices: Samsung Galaxy Tab A SM-T350 on Nougat (Magisk Rooted) BLU STUDIO G2 S010Q on Marshmallow (Magisk Rooted) Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 GT-S7275B on Jelly Bean (Kingo Rooted) Any help on porting a custom on either these devices that can alter the bluetooth stack and make the iCade Core (and one of my wiimotes, in addition) pairable? Will that joycenter app do something? Should I realize I wasted $30 like an idiot? [link] [comments] |
Google assistant on my OP6 phone often hangs on okay google commands. Posted: 19 Jan 2020 03:26 PM PST Its not everytime. Mostly when I legit cannot use my hands. Worst part? It keeps the screen on - eve past my 2 minutes auto shut off. It won't try other commands once it does this. This has been an on going problem for several versions. I am running tasker - but it's not limited to tasker involved tasks. [link] [comments] |

Applications keep switching to internal memory Posted: 19 Jan 2020 09:33 PM PST Greetings, I hope this is the right place to ask this but I've been having an infuriating issue with my applications. I remember when I had my Samsung Galaxy S6, I could move applications to the SD card and that was that. I upgraded last summer to the S10 and, while I love the phone overall, I can't get it to keep my applications on my SD card. I move them, the applications updates via the Play Store, and the system moves it right back into my internal storage. I then have to go back and individually move all the apps that updated back onto my SD card. It's maddening and I'm at the point where I'm really questioning why I even bothered to buy a SD card to begin with. Is there a known fix for this or should I contact Sammy or Google concerning this issue? OS: Android 10 on Samsung Galaxy S10 [link] [comments] |
Weird dissapearing bug on xiaomi redmi 5 plus Posted: 19 Jan 2020 08:55 PM PST My mom's xiaomi redmi 5 plus, has a strange bug, after blocking the phone all the app icons dissapear, you can still click on them touching them a few times, and they get back to normal after editing the grid or clicking on widgets, really weird, if anyone has this problem or knows how to solve it, all help is appreciated! Anyone recognize this clock widget? Posted: 19 Jan 2020 02:56 PM PST I had to factory reset my phone and this is the only thing that didn't transfer over. I'm not fond of change and would love to have it back on my home screen. [link] [comments] |

What's the deal with RCS, really? Posted: 19 Jan 2020 03:19 PM PST Hello all, I keep seeing articles about how great RCS is, but I just don't get it. The main features I've seen is that with RCS: -other people can see when you're typing (Why should I want this? I don't want other people knowing when I'm typing. They'll get my message when it's good and ready to be sent.) -read receipts (Is this really an issue? I send a message and the person responds. So obviously they got it; no read receipt needed. If it's urgent or I don't hear back in a reasonable time I send another message or call them.) -high res photos (If I send a pic on my phone I expect it to be opened/viewed on another phone in which case does high res matter? It's not like they're looking at the pic on their 88" 8K TV. If that was the objective I imagine there are other (better?) alternatives) If I'm missing the point please let me know. Or maybe I do get it, but RCS is not for me and other people like those features I just listed. For some background and additional info, I'm on Sprint with a Galaxy S10 phone. I use the built-in (Samsung?) Messages app. I know it's not Google Messages at least. I can talk/chat/message (is there a difference?) with one or multiple people quite easily. And they're on other networks with Androids and iPhones. Do people with other phones and on other networks have difficulties doing those things? Thanks -fanOnats [link] [comments] |
