YouTube App not working on my smart TV

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 08:41 AM PST

I have a JVC Smart TV, with an Android operating system. It has a YouTube app that has been getting progressively more and more problematic over time. As of yesterday, it is not parking at all.

I have tried clearing the cache. I have tried clearing the data. I have even tried a factory reset. Nothing is working. It simply tells me "That action isn't allowed."

This is incredibly frustrating. Everything else seems to be working fine, just the YouTube app. I can't even update it.

If anyone can tell me how to fix this problem, I'd be extremely grateful, because I'm fresh out of ideas.

Is there a way to get the Xiaomi fingerprint sensor gestures on other phones?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 09:52 AM PST

A friend's Mi A2 Lite's fingerprint sensor allows him to open and close the notifications shade (and then quick settings) by swiping his finger up and down on the fingerprint sensor. Is there a way to get something like that (with root and/or magisk modules) on other phones?

How do apps like the Zomato app keep relaunching in the background even after being force stopped?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 09:54 PM PST

I hate apps that show ads in the notification area. So I force stop such apps.

But only the Zomato app manages to relaunch itself after every few minutes and starts showing ads again. How is this possible?

Is there a way to permanently force stop this app without using any third party programs?

The default Hello world in Android Studio (no activity template) apk in my phone is 3.92MB in Java and when I go the Kotlin path it's 6.55MB. How to make it smaller?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 10:01 AM PST

Is it possible to make the Java hello world app under e.g. 3MB. I have installed a fully functional app (not a hello-wrold app) from the Google play store and t is 2.1 MB big. How to get to such small size?

    Security Error

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 08:31 AM PST

I have a Kyocera Hydro Life. It's pretty old admittedly as I've had it since 2015. I had it on the charger and when I went to unplug it, I saw it was on an all black screen with a message that read:

    Security Error:

This phone has been flashed with unauthorized software & is locked. Call your mobile operator for additional support. Please note that repair/return for this issue may have additional cost.

I've looked online and others who have had this problem said calling MetroPCS got them nowhere. Also, money is kind of tight right now so the "additional cost" worries me.

I don't have an SD card in the phone because I only use it to call and occasionally browse the internet since the battery seems to die quickly. The only apps I have installed are Lyft and a game called Muscle Hustle, so I don't know what the unauthorized software could be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My phone acknowledged that it's connected to a charger, but it won't actually charge.

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 05:39 AM PST

As title stated. I fell asleep as soon as I went to bed last night and forgot to charge my phone (Huawei Mate 10 Pro) .
Got to work today and had 4% battery left and connected it to my charger, by lunchtime I had 5%. Switched cable, but no change. Tried connecting it to my computer, powerbank and my usb wall charger, all with 3 different cables.
Then I tried cleaning the port on my phone before attempting all of the above again. Now my phone is dead, won't charge and therefore won't boot. I'm out of options. Did my phone just die or is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks in advance.

Computer provides 0.5A, powerbank 2,4A and the usb wall charger is the original I got with my phone.

Pop up appears even when the screen is locked in Android Pie leading to wrong dials and types. Any solutions?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 04:40 AM PST

I have a samsung galaxy A20 phone. And here in Bangladesh whenever we finish a call, we get a small message on the screen showing the amount of the call and how much balance is left. Its not an SMS or MMS, just a notification on the screen. I don't know what its called.

So anyways, what happens is that after a call, I click the power button to lock my phone and keep it in my pocket. But then when I take it out of the pocket I find that a lot of texts are written in the space underneath the pop up notification (in the reply area). Meaning that the pop up notification appears even in the lock screen.

Is there any way to prevent the pop up from showing on and being accessible from the lock screen? I am on Google Pie by the way.

What are some design alternatives to the material design?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 02:34 AM PST

Obviously, creating an app to use all the common patterns and design metaphors of Material design, but what if I want explore other design metaphors.

What are my choices on Android without reinventing the wheel from scratch? Any Material design alternatives you would recommend to explore or have you even go that route with your own app?

"Shell has been granted superuser permissions"

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 04:15 AM PST

    Hi Reddit,

I work for a mobile provider and am trying to help a customer with an issue with their phone.

They are getting frequent pop-ups with the "Shell has been granted superuser permissions" message. In looking this up, I only really see the issue with phones that have been rooted. Is it possible for this to happen with a non rooted phone? And is there a good way for me to fix this?

    Thanks in advance

Is there a way to change the pathway of the default download locations in Chrome?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 02:42 AM PST

Chrome allows you to choose between saving to your internal storage or an SD Card, but the pathway for the SD card download location looks something like this:

    .../Android/data/com.android.chrome/files/download

Files saved in this directory aren't visible to my applications, they don't even show up in the downloads category of Google's Files app. Normally I have to go in there and move every file I downloaded out before I can open/view them. Any way I can change this to save to a folder of my choice?

Can I have ringtone volume on vibrate but keep notification volume muted?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 02:56 PM PST

I have a Samsung Galaxy S9. When I turn the ringtone volume down to vibrate, the notification volume is also automatically set to vibrate and I can't change it. But if I turn my ringtone up, I can have notification volume muted. Is there a way to have ringtone volume on vibrate while keeing notifications muted? It seems weird to not be able to have it set that way, when media and system can be muted while ringtone is set to vibrate but not notifications.

    Workaround for broken notification sounds?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 12:28 AM PST

This is not a tech support question -- rather, I am looking for app ideas, custom ROMs, or other workarounds for my issue. I have a Pixel 3 and am the unfortunate victim of this issue: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/1669559?hl=en
(In short, my phone calls, text notifications, and alarm clock all make no sound.)

I'm looking for ideas for workarounds until I can buy a new phone. Any suggestions? So far I have the following:
    - I have my phone set to conditional forwarding so that if I don't hear it vibrate, my prepaid basic phone will ring.
    - I am thinking of getting a cheap (<$50) fitness tracker so that I'll be notified of texts/calls via wrist.
    - Unfortunately, it looks like LineageOS is not compatible with the Pixel 3. Any other ROMs I can load?
    - The system notification sounds don't work, but some third party app notifications are working and a third party alarm clock is working. Are there any phone or SMS messaging apps that bypass the system notification sounds for incoming notifications?
