This is a music player running Android Pie. I bought it for its intended use as well as for the cassette Walkman look. It has WiFi, Bluetooth, and the Play Store. So you can install essentially any Android app to it. Internal memory is 16 GB, but there is a microSD slot available. And, obviously, a headphone jack. There are full media controls on the side, and a Hold button for them.

There is no skin on the OS apart from a few custom apps. There is also a music volume separate from the media volume. And, most importantly for me, there is a screen that lets you force LDAC 990 kbps, or every other supported Bluetooth audio codec. Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/bmxtHzK

OT: know where this would be appreciated if I crossposted it?

Dark mode breaks bitmap graphics by force-inverting colors.

It seems that the email is actually a bitmap image, and Google's software goes around every contour filling it in with black, but struggles around the organically shaped text. Very interesting.

Will Amazon follow in Microsoft’s footsteps and release an android phone that runs Google Play Services?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 08:46 AM PST

Last month Microsoft unveiled the Surface Duo, an android phone that fully supports Google Mobile Services. It marks MS's first attempt to reenter the phone market since MS and Amazon tried and failed to break the Apple-Google duopoly.

Amazon's hardware ambitions go beyond Kindle sales. Amazon can sell its phone at a loss and make up for it by bundling its e-commerce app, Alexa, Amazon Prime etc (thus gaining new paying-subscribers), alongside Google apps. This business strategy is used by Xiaomi too. Much like Xiaomi, Amazon keeps its profit margins in the low single digits in order to make its hardware accessible to all consumers since Amazon's hardware is the gateway to sell its services. Would you be interested in such a phone?

Ambient mode while charging poped up on my Pocophone & works great !

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 09:09 AM PST

So I read some time ago about ambient mode, the Google assistant charging home screen / Google photos photo frame, that was coming to the wireless charging Pixels while on the proprietary google wireless charger a couple months ago now.

But I just got a notification for "Ambient mode while charging" and here are some screenshots of the setup process and use.

So I thought that it had been since released to more phones, but after some research, it doesn't seem so. I should note I'm currently using "miui-room", a custom Russian ROM (wich crashes and reboots every time I hit 10% and 5% battery) but is currently the only way to get both Android 10 and MIUI on my phone.

Playstore now allows multiple app downloads for smaller apps. It also downloads other apps while installing another one

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 11:20 PM PST

    Playstore downloading multiple apps.

I noticed last week that my playstore is doing multiple app downloads for the smaller apps. It also downloads and installs apps at the same time

This is the first time me seeing this so if it was a side server switch, then it took years to get to me.

146 New Vulnerabilities All Come Preinstalled on Android Phones | WIRED

(Opinion) Picking up a new flagship/premium midranger now (tail end of 2019) would be essentially pointless, given that 2020 will see a lot of '5G ready' devices launch, and at very affordable prices!

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 05:04 PM PST

So, Xiaomi recently announced that all their 2020 devices over $285/€255 will be 5G capable.

    Source: https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_reveals_2020_phones_over_250_will_have_a_5g_option-news-40117.php

Nokia has a 5G ready device launching early next year. Am sure other OEMs are going to follow suit.
