What if OEMs extended release cycles?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2022 12:57 PM PST

why is it that OEMs such as Samsung, OnePlus, Google, Apple, Motorola, etc continue to produce phones at such a rapid pace when consumers seem to hold on to their devices longer and longer? might it be a good idea to slow phone development cycles to say every year and a half or two years? my thought is that doing so would promote fewer physical devices for an OEM to support, higher quality software such as the Android OS, less ewaste, etc. thoughts?
