[911 bug] Google is mailing users of Microsoft Teams ("Critical update needed for your Microsoft Teams app")

    Posted: 30 Dec 2021 04:13 PM PST

I just got this email a few hours back from Google to update Teams to avoid the emergency number calling bug.

    Text:

Hello, You may have a version of the Microsoft Teams app installed on an Android device that may unintentionally prevent emergency calling (e.g. 911, 999, 112, etc. depending on your region) when you are not logged into the app. The issue is caused by an unintended interaction between the Microsoft Teams app and the underlying Android operating system. Please visit the Google Play Store and update to the latest version of Microsoft Teams immediately.

For more information on this issue, please refer to this Help Center Article. If you have updated the Microsoft Teams app after December 10, 2021, you can ignore this email. The Google Team

Has anyone else received this message as well? My Teams app was at version 1416/1.0.0.2021124202 when I got this mail.

    Shall we talk 2022?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2021 07:02 PM PST

What are your expectations or predictions. What technologies and innovations would you like to see in smartphones in 2022?

    For myself.

    • I think 2022 will be when 5G is truly established. Even budget phones will have 5G and "5G" name from phones will probably disappear, unless it's budget phones.

    • 120Hz screens should come to all price segments. And there may be a few phones that push frequency response higher, although it's not necessary at all. What I would like is push for higher touch sampling rate. Keep the refresh rate at 120Hz and increase touch sampling rate instead. I would like 1000Hz sampling rate, it would be amazing for writing, drawing and general experience.

    • As always, I would like innovation in cameras. I would not like big sensors as much as focus on improving of sharpness of images by using higher quality lenses and software. I think sensors are there already. What needs to be improved further is software. Less HDR, more realistic pictures. And lenses! They make a huge difference. As far as innovation goes, what I'd like is eye tracking focus. Canon has a technology like that, wherever you look, is where camera focuses, maybe phones can use front cameras and calculate where a person is looking and focus on that area, would be great for one handed use with modern huge phones.

    • Speaking of huge phones. I would love smaller phones. Pixel 6 was disappointing in that regard.

    • Would great to see phone with two USB ports. I think that would take care of a lot of 3.5mm audio jack complaints. But I doubt that's going to happen.

    • And microSD. I love microSD. Bring it back!

    • Other than that, there is really nothing I want from a phone or can even think of. I want majority of the focus to be on software as that's what needs to be improved a lot.
