Android Questions: What display setting do you use on a daily basis?

What display setting do you use on a daily basis?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 07:24 AM PDT

I own a OnePlus 9 Pro, and the display offers me the option of 1440p resolution with 120Hz refresh rate.

I haven't enabled this option yet, as I think I won't see much difference (used it for few hours, didn't see much difference).

What do you guys prefer on your devices, that support high refresh rate + ppi over FullHD?

Do you see any difference in screen quality, or is your battery just draining for no reason?

Oppo Reno 4 lite with broken screen not detected by pc for data recovery software

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 08:30 AM PDT

Hi, I hope this is the right place to ask help for an android device, specifically Oppo Reno 4 Lite which runs on Android.

I got this phone and then moved to North America, where it is not common to find this phone here. While running, I dropped the phone and cracked the edge. This wasn't a big problem in all honesty, it was a small crack and the phone worked fine, but I was worried it might allow water in. While visiting my parents (which is also where I got the phone from), I had the screen replaced but it was a tedious process and the fingerprint recognition was not working afterwards.

On the plane back to where I live, I put the phone on the table. When I woke up, the phone was on the floor. Despite having a screen protector, the screen was cracked from the center but the protector did not have any cracks. Even though the crack wasn't big, the screen/ phone simply didn't work properly.

In the next few days, the screen completely went bust and I looked online to see replacement screens. I had already paid so much for the first screen replacement and there just was no way to find the screen in North America. I looked at AliBabaExpress but the screens there didn't look legit and would only arrive a month later.

I got a new phone in the meantime but I am unable to retrieve the data in my Oppo Reno 4 Lite. I think the screen replacement caused some damage to the hardware because the fall on the plane was from a very short height and it was a carpet floor, meaning it shouldn't have cracked so hard. I think the screen wasn't attached properly which left stress points where the hardware could be damaged. It just is weird how the screen protector didn't crack and how such a small crack causes the whole screen to go bust, which makes me think it is not just the screen which has issues, but also the hardware.

To retrieve the data on my OPPO Reno 4 Lite,

    - I have used an OTP connector and connected that to a mouse and a display. The phone isn't getting recognized. I thought I could have enabled file transfer on my phone, which isn't enabled.

    - I connected the phone to my computer, it shakes to imply connection but I cannot see it as a device, etc. I had never connected this phone to a pc before so file transfer wasn't enabled. I tried using EaseUS software but the software doesn't detect my phone.

I am perplexed. I do not know how to access the memory on the phone. I know the phone still somewhat works because it still shakes when I connect it to pc but nothing else.

I would appreciate it if you could help me out with debugging this issue. How can I ensure the pc recognizes the phone? Is there any other software that I can use? I have some tools to open up the phone, is there a way to access the memory directly?

I would greatly appreciate it if you could help out. Thanks

Can I change the Android 11 UI / Notifications Corner Radius? With root?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 08:02 AM PDT

I am trying to find a way to make the ui a bit more rounded, to look like Android 12. My phone is rooted, I have Pixel Experience plus.

Is there a way to do it, to change a value for notifications box corner radius, even for the quick settings menu from the top?

If not, is there any app that could give me a more Android 12-like style of notifications even on the lockscreen? Pop-up, slide-down menu?

Xiaomi mi 10 lite sunk in water.

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 11:10 AM PDT

I was taking a walk on the beach and I dropped my phone in the water (my fault), I panicked and got to the hotel and dried it with the hair dryer. I have read that it is one of the worst things you can do, I am very nervous since I have a lot of information there, the only thing that gives me hope is that when I try to turn on the device it vibrates as when it is turned on normally, but the screen does not turn on and like it gives a short circuit and turns off again. What should I do?

Can I copy or clone data from a phone without battery using fastboot ?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 07:20 AM PDT

Hi everyone , just as the title suggests. I have an old xperia s from 2012 and the battery is already dead , and no repair shop in this country has replacement batteries . Thing is the are a few files that i just want out of it and i can throw away the phone for good . The phone doesn't turn on at all without battery and the only thing i can do through usb is enter fastboot mode . Is there way to explore the phone files or just clone the entire thing through fastboot?

Is spending an additional money for the RAM upgrade worth it?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 10:51 AM PDT

I'm considering buying Poco F3, and I noticed it comes in two variants:

    • 6/128GB
    • 8/256GB

The price difference between the two is around $50 for 8/256GB. Is it worth spending the extra money for an additional 2GB of RAM, especially for futureproofing?

My usage case is pretty minimal and casual. I don't do anything on my phone other than calling, texting, browsing and watching YouTube videos. I don't game or do anything CPU/GPU intensive like gaming, AnTuTu, etc. I also make sure to close any apps after I'm done using them, and avoid having them running in the background, with the exception of something like Vanced YouTube, where I'm listening to music while showering, and even then that only lasts for around 5-10 minutes.

I've heard that previously the Poco F2 Pro came with a LPDDR4X on it's 6/128 option, while 8/256 came with LPDDR5, so I'm wondering if they might be doing the same here.

Nonetheless, would it be worth it for someone like me to spend an additional $45-50 for the extra RAM, or should I just stick with the 6GB variant?

    Thanks!

Any way to get iOS-style updating on icon tap?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 10:13 AM PDT

iOS updates apps before you can open them. I hate that it's mandatory on iOS but I personally like the functionality. Is there any launcher or mod to have this (or similar) behavior on Android? Phone is rooted.

    thanks!

Spotify on Galaxy s9 skipping and pausing songs while phone is looked and headphones are plugged in, how can I fix this?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 09:10 AM PDT

I've had this phone for about 2.5-ish years now and Spotify on it for a year, but I didn't begin having this problem until about two or three months ago. When I am listening to music on Spotify through my headphones (but never when I'm using bluetooth speakers/headphones, or an aux cord in my car), the app will begin randomly pausing or skipping songs. This occurs when I have the phone locked, unlocked, and when the app is running in the background. The app will even continue playing music even after I close it while headphones are plugged in. I use cheap corded headphones that don't have a microphone, and Spotify works fine on other devices.

Occassionally I'll get a notification that says "Bixby Voice is not set up yet" (something like that) on my lock screen while I'm experiencing problems, but not every time. I've never used Bixby or voice commands for any app.

I haven't had problems with other apps, but I don't use many other apps with headphones, so maybe I just haven't seen it yet. I've already tried wiping the cache partition, reinstalling Spotify, and shutting down my phone. This doesn't happen every time I listen to Spotify with headphones plugged in, but it has been really annoying the past few days since this usually happens while I'm running or working out. Any help is appreciated!

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm not always touching or holding my phone when this happens as well.

Phone might be infected? Invisible app??

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 07:16 AM PDT

I was browsing reddit using the boost for reddit app and then randomly over a course of several minutes some ads would pop up full screen and one was one of those cheesy fake your phone might be infected things. I rebooted my phone and then like somehow in the drop down menu I was able to notice a strange app or something where I was able to click on app settings and it was like this completely blank app that said was from a package installer and not the store, so I Uninstalled it but it had no name or anything. So weird.

Also probably unrelated but I got 2 texts from some like verification place that says your Healthy Together pin is xxxxxx like someone used my # to set up this random app I never installed before, I looked it up and it's some COVID tracking results app.

Intrusive Google Messaging ToS Pop up will not go away

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 06:53 AM PDT

Recently I started getting a message related to the stock text messaging app on the S21 - I can't say exactly when this started, but at this point it's close to a week. It's an auto pop up that will supercede anything I'm doing on the phone. The message reads: "Faster, richer, higher quality chat on Wi-Fi or data"

To turn on chat features from Google, you agree to the Terms of Service. Google will occasionally verify your number by exchanging your device info with your carrier (SMS charges may apply). Google's Privacy Policy describes how data is handled. Learn more.

You then have to choose 1 of two options..

Choosing either option, "Continue without chat features" or "Agree" makes no difference.. It will inevitably pop up within minutes again. This is a glitch on a feedback loop and I really am looking to have it stop. I've not found any other comments about this and I'm wondering if this is somehow a bug on just my device or a larger problem people are experiencing.
