Youtube Randomly pauses and can't unpause

    Posted: 27 Aug 2021 02:43 PM PDT

I've experienced this a few times on my Chromecasts with GoogleTV.

After using the device for a day or so, the next time I open YouTube or YouTubeTV, the video opens, to a blank screen. If you click Play, the pause icon shows up. Clicking Play again will cause it to play for a second and then it is stuck in a pause loop (For lack of better words). If I hold down the play button it will play, but as soon as you let go, it pauses. The only way I can then get YouTube or YouTubeTV to play again, is to reboot the device.

This is happening on multiple devices pretty regularly. Anyone else experience this or have a fix?

Android TV that is OTA friendly

    Posted: 27 Aug 2021 04:31 PM PDT

    Hello all,

Looking for suggestions in the $700-1k ish range for an Android based TV. One super important feature is the tuner portion has to support a # pad random access to the tuner. For instance I watch OTA channels 39.1 and 10.1 and I want to be able to switch between them and other channels by pressing #ers on the remote versus having to scroll through a list of channels (like ROKU TVs do which makes them a no go).

I've been told the Sony X90J can do this but darned if I can find any proof via all the Youtube and website reviews of this TV I could find. I know this set is above 1k atm but darned if it doesn't get great reviews so I'd consider going a bit above budge for it). Can any owners of this TV confirm this or does anyone have any other suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

    Neil

Xfinity Roku apk for Android TV sideload?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2021 08:03 AM PDT

Hey guy, I realize this has been asked previously in different ways. Mine seems to be unique...

I recently bought an Android TV (Hisense A6). I noticed right away from coming from an older tv that I used a roku stick with, that getting the xfinity app onto the new Android TV wasn't going to be as easy as just going to the Play Store and downloading. You have to do the go-around and there's sites that seem to help with this, although, I had troubles along the way.

What I'm looking for is a way to get the Xfinity Stream app that is used by Roku and get that onto the Android TV. It is no longer in Beta and seems the closest to using xfinity. Is this possible?

Secondly since you've read this far. With all of the apk updates that I see on APKMirror, is there any sense in going back and downloading newer versions, they seem to be coming out weekly-ish?

Android TV on enterprise network without rooting?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2021 12:06 PM PDT

I have a wireless projector that's running Android TV (it's an Anker Solar Portable) that I am trying to connect to my school's network (I am a teacher). We have a PEAP, 802.1x or whatever enterprise network so it needs a username AND a password. The IT department have confirmed that they're happy for the projector to be connected to the network - IF anyone can actually do so.

After several hours of Googling and attempting stuff, I SUSPECT I am going to have to root the projector so I can manually edit the wireless configuration and add the relevant information - Android TV does have the functionality for enterprise networks built in so if I can just add the right configuration it should be okay. I'm a bit daunted by this, however - it's been years since I rooted a phone, and at least phones are relatively normal rather than a wireless projector with its own bespoke app store alongside the Google one!

The apps that hobbyists seem to have been written in the past to get round this issue no longer seem to work (delisted from the Apple Store and APKs either don't run or don't work).

I've read a bunch of Reddit posts from years and months past that seem to suggest this isn't going to be possible... but I thought I'd check one more time before I take any more steps in case there's an easy way of doing this I've missed. If only I could just ping across the connection settings from my phone (Pixel 3!) really easily, or I could edit the relevant file without permissions, or... I thought I was making things easier by buying an Android TV projector rather than one of the WebOS ones I was looking at!
