How have you customized/modified your phone to improve your experience?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 07:13 AM PDT

Anything and everything from Tasker routines, Nova launcher + Sesame Shortcuts, Termux, to any other app or hardware improvement is welcome!

    Here are some of mine:

    • I've used Nova Launcher to add direct app shortcuts to home screen like "Create a note" for Google Keep. I have added opening the app itself as a swipe up option on the shortcut icon.

    • I use Sesame Shortcuts to let me to search for anything on YouTube, Firefox, or Play Store directly from my home screen. I only have to invoke the app search box by a double tap.

    • I use the Automate app to open multiple apps with just one tap. Once I click the shortcut icon named "Communications", it opens Gmail, then opens Google Messages after the previous one is closed, and opens WhatsApp and Discord in the same way one after another.

    • "Hold recent apps" button is a shortcut for taking screenshot. Eases one-handed use.

    • Nova swipe down gesture is used to reveal notifications.

    • Changed all animations in Developer Options from 1.0x to 0.5x.

Samsung Galaxy S8 is bootlooping, says no android system.

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 04:38 AM PDT

I restarted my Galaxy S8-G950F and now it's stuck in a bootloop, tried everything, I don't know if it's rooted, all I know is that it's OEM locked. (bought it used) Odin fails at the last step, tried so many custom roms, made sure they were for this device, nothing.

In recovery mode it says: fail to open recovery_cause(no such file or directory)

E: [libfs_mgr]is_dt_compatible(): firmware info was not valid: '/proc/device-tree/firmware/android/compatible': No such file or directory

I read about some motherboard problem but don't have the money to get it repaired, and don't have the tools to take it apart myself.

How do you keep your kids safe on the internet when they are away from your wifi?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 09:13 AM PDT

I have a friend who has young kids and is wanting to block their internet access to things like adult content. That is easy to do on the home router. But when they take their wifi-enabled devices to McDonalds or school, there is, of course, no filters there. Is there any way to restrict a device so that it can only connect to "trusted" routers or wifi is only turns on when at home or something like that? I was thinking that maybe DNS settings might work, but that has to be input per connection, doesn't it?

For those of you with kids and connected devices, how do you keep them safe on the internet?

Do all new Android phones have onboard processing of Google assistant or just Pixels?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 06:59 AM PDT

I need some info on Man-in-the-disk attacks. I don't know if my phone is safe.

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 03:04 AM PDT

So a few days ago I hard reset my phone (the reason is completely unrelated to the topic) and after I had finished getting my apps and downloaded old images and vids I checked my files to make sure everything was in order. I was confused to see a 50 megabyte zip file with over 900 things in it. The title was something like "SODA-en-us.zip". Even more weird was the fact that the sorting order was newest to oldest meaning it was downloaded before anything else. I searched the file name on Google and most results mentioned something called a Man-in-the-disk attack and after reading what it was I immediately deleted the file and hard reset my phone again. I haven't noticed anything weird since but my anxiety won't let me ease up until I learn if I really am safe or not so I have some questions.

    1. Do I need an SD card for the attack to work on me?

    2. Does anyone know how that file ended up there?

    3. Can an APK from apkmirror count as a rogue app?

    4. Can a Man-in-the-disk attack survive a hard reset?

I have been on constant edge for days so I would be very grateful for any help.

Audio issue redmi note 9 pro.

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 11:53 AM PDT

Hi, I have a problem with my redmi note 9.

Every 7-8 seconds the audio stops for 2-3 seconds, it's a software problem for sure as it is very consistent and happens with built in speakers, wired headphones and bluetooth speaker.

I think a reset of the audio driver would fixe it but I have no Idea how to do that on a phone.

Can anyone help me please ?

Redmi Note 10 or Infinix Note 10 Pro?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 05:26 AM PDT

Which phone should I buy? I don't play heavy games. I'm specifically looking for a nicer camera and smooth phone for normal usage with no lags/bugs and maybe good battery.

    Integrity Verification Failed?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 10:21 AM PDT

Last night my phone died due to low battery. Upon recharge and reboot, I was met with a notification that there was an Integrity Verification failure. I could not find any reason for this online, most say you would have been messing around with rooting for this to happen.

Thing is, I dont root. I only install super common apps like Twitter, Instagram, etc. I do not go on any shady/adult sites.

The only culprit that comes to mind is earlier that day, I installed my gyms app.

What could have caused this? I lost everything on my phone unfortunately as I didn't realize my backup was from my older phone

I'm on a Galaxy S9 if that matters

    Most Upgradeable Android Mobile?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 02:38 AM PDT

So, I'm in the market for an Android mobile. I'm looking for something that will last me at least a few years, and which can be upgraded to latest Android OS for at least a few years. I know my iPhone lasts me a long time as Apple still pushes out latest updates for years. What do you consider the most upgradeable Android mobile? Thanks.

Run Android on the iPhone 6

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 06:34 AM PDT

Hello, I don't really know where to post this but my Android phone broke and now I'm using an iPhone 6. Since I'm not a big iOS fan, I would like to know if there is a way to run Android on this iPhone model (128GB 1GB, Apple A9). Version needs to be 4.4.x and up. Project Sandcastle doesn't yet support the iPhone 6 and it's really a dead project to advertise Corelium. Thanks in advance

What keyboard app is the best?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 06:27 AM PDT

Coming from iOS, all the keyboards I´ve tested seems subpar (Gboard, Samsung Keyboard). Is there a better option?

I keep making many mistakes when typing fast, things that did not happen on iOS.

    Please advice. Thanks!.

How do you increase shutter speed in camera apps?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 05:46 AM PDT

When I take videos and pause them, fast moving content is blurry which is caused by the shutter speed being too slow, so I'm wondering what setting in the camera apps in need to change to increase shutter speed?

Select specific apps that can show lock screen notification

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 05:25 AM PDT

Right now I have lock screen notification turned off to keep the lock screen clean but I was wondering if there was a way to make it only show notifications like a music player thing to change and pause songs so I don't have to unlock my phone everytime I want to do something like that. I tried looking online and dug in the settings a lot but couldn't find what I pretended so I decided to ask Reddit as a last resource option. Thanks in advance.

    2 Bluetooth apps on LG

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 05:25 AM PDT

I have this spare LG that I mainly store all my music on to listen to in the car but I let the bf use it for 2 weeks or so after he broke his and had to wait for the new one to come in. Ever since he's given it back tome, it's just not acting right. I don't even know how to begin to describe the issues I've run into using it now.

Anyways, for right now I've somehow ended up with 2 of the same Bluetooth apps installed but both having different versions, memory and data usages. Which one is the original so I can delete the other? And how did the second one get there to begin with? Is it something he could've done while having the phone? (I only think he may have done something to it because of how he's acted this last year we were together, he is in his head too much and thinks he can just accuse me of literally anything and somehow in his head he's 1000% right. (I found out his mom works for 2 software companies as like a Programmer and a System Engineer, he also knows a lot himself in these things.) Him and her, are the most narcissistic peas - in a perfect manipulating pod I have ever met, in, my, life..))

Is the Moto G Play a good phone?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 09:27 PM PDT

I am looking to get a new phone. I currently have a 4 year old phone and want something with more than 16gb storage. My budget is $150 because I am poor. A phone I've been eyeballing is the Moto G Play. Is the Moto G Play a good phone that'll last 4 years? I do not want to pay for a new phone every one or two years, and require it to last a good long while. If you have any suggestions please comment them below. I am very certain that I do not want an iphone. I don't like iphones.

USB C Powered FM Transmitter? Does it exist?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 07:11 PM PDT

You know how all the old FM transmitters just plugged into your headphone jack? Do they make an FM transmitter that just plugs into your USB-C?

Not the ones that plug into your cigarette lighter and have a USB-C port built in to charge your phone. I mean one that just plugs directly into your phone like a little dongle.

It might look something like this but obviously this is not it.

What specs should the charging cable have in order to work with my phone?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 04:04 AM PDT

I have Redmi Note 7, and I just received USB A to C charging cable I ordered.

I bought it because I wanted a longer cable so I got the 2m one. When I tried it didn't work.

I was like wtf, then checked the cable I ordered. It's an original Xiaomi cable 6A.

I guess the "6A" is for amps and my phone just can't handle that, nor can my charging brick.

I find it so hard to find information about this online. I thought even if my phone can't handle so much power the cable would still be able to send a lower power and still work with my phone. Guess not.

So if 6A doesn't work with my phone, which should I get, is there 5A, 4A, 3A, or whatever?

Besides the amp specification, is there any other specification I should look for to be sure the cable will work with my phone?

    Question about Google drive notification.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 06:19 PM PDT

I get a notification from Google drive that some Russian letters have resolved a comment. On the bottom of my screen it'll say file not found. Then when I expand the notification it's all Russian letters. I haven't clicked it though. Has this happened to anyone else?
