    Android Questions: Contacts gone

    Android Questions: Contacts gone

    Contacts gone

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 05:50 AM PDT

    Edit below:

    Hello community!

I deleted some apps on my mum's mobile phone (galaxy A20e) to free up some space (samsung notes and samsung smart things among others, I can't remember all of them). Suddenly most of her contacts are gone. We are left with 23 contacts. In WhatsApp the currently active chats only show numbers. I tried to recover contacts from google (I have turned on sync on her device for that reason), but google also only contains these 23 contacts. I tried to revert the changes to her contact list using the google contacts website (roll back to last week). But that didn't work either. Samsung Cloud Sync was not active, because I never set up the required 2 factor authentication for her Samsung account.

Do you have any idea, how I can get the contacts back?

Your help would be greatly appreciated! :D

    EDIT:

Thanks for the help everyone! Luckiy, I forgot that Microsoft also synced contacts and I was able to get the contacts from there. Based on that I think I might have been stupid and deleted some Microsoft Apps that removed the contacts from the phone.

How to unsync google photos from samsung without It deleting Them from My phone??

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 09:43 AM PDT

I have a Samsung Galaxy S10. I've been using the samsung photos app to manage my camera photos, screenshots, etc. because that's what I'm used to and had no problems with it so far. For some reason I felt like checking out the google photos app that was preinstalled on my phone. As soon as I opened up the app, it automatically started syncing all the photos on my phone to my google account, to the point of filling the 15GB of storage provided for free.

Now when I try to use my Gmail, I see a banner telling me I can't send or receive email unless I free up or upgrade storage space. When I attempt to delete photos straight from the cloud, it deletes them from my actual phone too! I already tried looking online for solutions, and so far I've been unsuccessful with everything. I already unsynced all my google accounts and when I delete photos it STILL deletes them from my phone.

All this is just frustrating and infuriating and I need my email for work. I just want to unsync and clear the photos from my drive so I can use my email and stop seeing the annoying banner notification about my storage being full. But somehow this app refuses to relinquish control over the local storage on my phone. The main reason I left the iPhone world was because of the lack of control over my own files and now that my android is doing this it's driving up the wall. Everything on this app seems designed to push you towards buying more storage, you can't even easily click a button to check how much you have left without going through a series of separate links.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any solution to wireless charging with those phone cap or sockets that glue to the back of the case? (Photo included)

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 07:19 AM PDT

I find these essential as a 15cm screen phone is too big for me to physically hold, but with the socket glued on the back it's very managable. However I now can't wireless charge due to the height of the socket.

Is there a difference between batteries used in iphone and android?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 11:25 AM PDT

Hello, I'm mostly android user but in the past I had a chance to spend some time with the original 2016 iphone SE. There is this one thing I noticed - android batteries tend to be better and I'm not talking about capacity right now. When I used my old iphone it had this problem where the battery percentage showed let's say 20% but then it became really laggy. Problem was that the phone forgot its full capacity, so calibration was needed here. This happened when I used 20-80% charging rule. However, this has never happened on any android phone I've ever owned. I thought that all devices use lithium-ion technology, but it seems to me like apple uses the old one where you basically needed to discharge your device to 0% and charge back to 100%, so it won't forget its full capacity. The question is - have you ever noticed anything similar to this? I've never had to re-calibrate a battery used in android.

How to remove the .com key on keyboard for s20 FE phones?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 10:53 AM PDT

I've been searching through settings with the intention of removing the ".com/www" key as it compresses the spacebar, making it annoying to type online. I've looked at guides online, but they seem to only exist for older phones. Any advice?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (2014) won't turn on

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 07:03 AM PDT

I posted this in r/techsupport but I'm posting it here too in case something similar has happened to anyone else and you can help. If this isn't allowed feel free to remove the post.

I've had my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini since 2014. It's developed various problems over the years due to its age, but it still worked well enough for me to be hesitant to get a new phone up until this summer. About 2 weeks ago, I went to power on the screen (phone was already "on") and the phone wouldn't turn on at all. It wouldn't even vibrate when I pressed the power button. It wasn't dead in the traditional sense because it had been at 80% when it stopped working. It won't charge and won't turn on even briefly. Yes, I've dropped the phone various times over the past 7 years but not recently so I don't think there is a direct correlation between droppage and the phone stopping working. I've tried taking the entire phone apart and putting it back together and that didn't do anything. I have gotten the phone to vibrate by removing the battery and putting it back in, but a slight vibration is all I got; the "Samsung" screen didn't appear, no sounds from the phone, still didn't actually turn on.

This happened once before, about a month and a half ago. That time, I touched an app on the home screen and instead of going to the app, the screen went black and the phone wouldn't turn on. I thought it might need a new battery so I ordered a replacement battery. That itself made no difference, phone still did the thing where it vibrated slightly when I pulled the battery out and put it back in. Currently, the phone has the new battery. I had my dad who is more technical than I am take apart the phone a couple of times to see if there was an internal issue. He thought the switches in the power button might need to be soldered, something like that, but we didn't know how to do that ourselves. He eventually put the phone back together and it turned on after a week of being unable to turn on. Thing is I don't know why it turned back on. My dad didn't actually do anything to it when he put it back together, and the new battery didn't seem to do anything different. But it started working again so I went back to using it like normal.

I should have extracted everything I needed off of the phone the first time it broke, but for some reason I didn't. Needless to say, I have lost 7 years' worth of contacts, photos, videos, notes, and voice memos and I want them back. I am also locked out of any of my college-related accounts because I can't use Duo Mobile to authenticate myself which is on my phone. Ultimately I've given up on the phone being functional for day-to-day usage - it's old and wasn't that great anyway - but I really want the thing to work for long enough for me to retrieve my data. Please help.

    No call notifications

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 06:22 AM PDT

    Hello everyone.

I have a problem with a Moto E6 that currently is not displaying notifications for the calls received, you can hear the ring tone but not the normal notifications to answer, it doesn't even activates the screen.

I tried using another phone application like Simple Dialer to replace the default (and change it to the default phone app on the system settings) but still the calls are coming on the default Google Phone app. I have delete the data on the phone app and even reset all the apps through the system settings and the problem persists.

On the PlayStore reviews I see people complaining about this and saying is a recent update (to the system I think, no update on the app) what is causing this (this in Spanish though). Someone knows anything about this issue?

Poco f3 display issue when refresh rate drops to 90hz while switching between apps

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 09:16 AM PDT

I've noticed my screen flashing slightly when switching between apps. After a while of search I discovered it's because at that moment the refresh rate drops to 90hz and goes back up to 120 hz again. It is quite visible in low light with low brightness, which is most of my use case.

Is there anyway to fix this? it is very annoying.

i have a question, it's always said that charging phone 20-80% is the ideal charging cycle which enhances the battery lifespan of lithium ion batteries. But if we charge our phone like 30-90% instead of 20-80%, will there be any effect in the charging cycle? Or is there something scient

How do I fix: Missing alarms and severly delayed notifications?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 08:56 AM PDT

Using the default alarm/clock app that comes with Android, I found that my phone arbitrarily just refuses to ring some of my alarms, one of which led to straight up missing an exam. I eventually switch to an app called AMdroid, where the problem kept happening but this time AMdroid will tell me that my "phone was off" so an alarm had to be skipped even though it was on and had enough battery power long after the time it was supposed to ring. Basically, my phone seems to be doing some extreme power saving features/having some badly behaving permissions.

Another similar issue I would face: WhatsApp and Discord notifications can be delayed to as short as 5-10 minutes to as late as 10 whole days, sometimes never. I don't understand why my phone is doing this.

I have a Nokia 6.1 (or Nokia 6 2018) running Android 10. This is not attached to a carrier. I tried looking up how to root my device/run Lineage OS on it. However, I can't enter fastboot mode and apparently this is intentional by Nokia.

I've had this phone for 3 years now and I've only realised this was a problem (when I missed an exam) 8 months ago. What can I do to fix this?

Any way to mirror the screen of a broken phone without need to install 3rd party apks?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 08:48 AM PDT

I have some important data and Google Authenticator on my older phone. The screen is broken and all I can see is a white brick. There is a slight "shadow" of some of the icons that react to the touch so the touch input is still working but I am unable to unlock it because I do not remember the exact position of the number pad on the lock screen.

Is there any way to mirror the screen via USB on PC?

I found multiple "tutorials" for dealing with a broken screen but all of these actually require a working screen to install some software or to give permissions for sharing the screen.

    Unknown weird app drawing battery

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 07:31 AM PDT

Hello, I have this app named "-5" drawing quite a bit of battery, but I have no idea of what it is. I can't find it in my apps/anywhere. Here are screenshots:

Battery optimzer screen, with the app shown

    App in the battery optimzer

I use a OnePlus 5T on Android 10 (Oxygen Os 10.0.1) and have never seen this before. What could it be?

    Thanks!

Have a problem with my storage

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 07:30 AM PDT

I'd link an image but its not possible. Basically, when I go to the internal storage - Android - data, it says that there are no files in there. It makes no sense, all apps files are in there. I've gone there a million times to see what useless things I can delete. (Don't worry, I didn't delete all files) I've even used an app (lucky patcher) to store an apk in those files, it says it is in there but when I go look for it, it still says empty

Is there a way to get rid of the white background from apps without using a third party launcher?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 07:21 AM PDT

So I want to clean up/modernize my phone a little bit, and so I thought about using a launcher, specifically Nova Launcher, but it just makes my phone lag. I played a game with the default launcher and got a solid 60fps, meanwhile with the third party launcher on I get barely 30fps.

So I came across this video where if you download Shortcut Maker and an icon pack of your choice, you can change the appearence of icons without it lagging. I tried it and it works, but the white background throws the vibe off.

Is there a way to make it invisible or at least black colored, because my theme is a very dark background with neon/bright colored apps.

If my phone matters, It's a Redmi 6.

Differences between SDCard Encryption vs Adoptable Storage?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 12:31 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

My Samsung A52 has no option for Adoptable Storage, you can only Encrypt your SD. To my understanding it's possible to do it using ADB without root.

To me, it makes more sense to use Adoptable storage, because it huddle all the information into a single folder structure - and make it easier to combine information for app that work with sdcard and apps that don't.

If I'm understand correctly, encryption is the same type of encryption on both modes. is there any differences I should be aware of that should sway me from one over to the other?

    Thanks!
