Sony Xperia 1 III will get two major OS updates

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 08:59 AM PDT

Update July 19: Sony reached out to us to clarify that the original statement by a company's employee isn't correct and the Xperia 1 III will get two major OS updates after its launch. Here's the official position of the company on the matter:

It is not correct that Xperia 1 III will have only one time Android OS update. We aim to support Xperia 1 III with the latest Android updates for two years after its launch and we expect to have Android OS updates more than once during that period.

    Z Fold3 question follow-up - Chun

    Context

We, sorry because of my laziness but here are the answers.

    • pixel density of the UPC: same as other parts of the internal screen, my source didn't say the exact PPI but we can speculate around 400 PPI

    • the UPC has the rainbow effect when you look at it directly but you won't notice it when you don't look at it or don't mind it. It's basically the same situation as the punch hole, it's there when you look at it but you won't notice it once you deny it.

    • my source gave the UPC selfie quality at 7 between 1-10, it has the same quality as the ZF2 selfie quality in good lighting conditions, but my source hasn't tried other conditions like low light or room lighting condition so I still couldn't say it really just as good as ZF2 punch hole. Will update more in future tweets tho

Update the quality in low light condition: not great, noisier and grainier than ZF2. Expect better low light quality in the consumer final version tho

Android 12 Wireless Controller DPAD/Stick [Fix]

    Posted: 19 Jul 2021 04:16 AM PDT

Hey, just wanted to share this fix that worked for me.

I had issues with my Pixel 4a (Android 12 Beta 3) and both an Xbox Series S Controller and 8BitDo Pro 2 (Xbox and Android modes). Both controllers were working fine on my TV (Android 9).

I had AnyDesk AD1 addon installed on my phone and the addon was enabled under Accessibility.

I suggest anyone with this problem go to their Accessibility settings and turn off the accessibility service for all downloaded apps, then turn them back on one at a time until you find the problem app.

I think the problem with the AnyDesk addon is that it simulates input and the games may have been binding to that instead of the controller. So I would assume other screen scraping, remote control, virtual input apps would all cause the same issues.

Edit: I would like to add that if you open RetroArch and go to Input settings, the device choice should only be the name of your device. There should not be a choice called "virtual". Once I removed this, everything started to work correctly. There may be other software on the Android device creating this "virtual" input device that is not under accessibility, perhaps a keyboard app or something similar.
