Regarding the UDC of the Galaxy Z Fold3, it uses AI algorithms to assist, and the picture quality is not bad. Although it cannot reach the level of a normal front camera, I believe that the picture quality of Fold3 is the best among several UDC phones to be released soon. - Ice universe

My thoughts after using Moto g60 for a month

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 08:27 PM PDT

I recently bought Moto g60 for myself after using Xiaomi/Samsung phones for a long time. This is my first Motorola phone and have been using this for almost a month now.

I always wanted to use a Moto phone for the clean UI it provides. some of the reasons I picked this phone: 1. Clean UI with no junk apps 2. Large 6000 mAh battery 3. Sick of buggy MIUI experience from my previous phone

Some of the observations I made after using this phone:

    1) Phone sure is large but I didn't particularly feel it's bulky unlike what most of the comments about this phone's size and weight said.

    2) It is weird that there's no quick toggle for "Silent" mode which MIUI always had. There's this "Do Not Disturb" mode but it's not working the way I wanted even after configuring in its settings. I had to go into sound menu and then lower the ringtone volume to zero manually every time.

How can there be no "Silent" mode toggle is beyond me. Finally I figured out that if we press the physical volume up/down buttons, we get this option to change the phone's status to "Silent".

    3) There's no "double tap to sleep" or "double tap to wake" feature. In my previous phones, I rarely used the power button to either wake the display or lock the phone.

    4) In the phone app, the call history with any particular contact is in reverse chronological order i.e. the most recent call is shown in the bottom and the first ever call with that person is shown up top. This just doesn't make sense.

    5) The much touted 108 MP camera is crap; absolutely useless in dark conditions in night time. Can't even focus on an object in the dark. I feel any decent Xiaomi/Redmi mid-ranger is far better in this regard. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a working GCam for this yet.

    6) Every time I plug in my earphones, there's something called "verifying current audio output" notification which takes couple of seconds to actually hear something from the earphones.

This is annoying especially during calls. Sometimes I switch between loud speaker and ear phones during phone calls, and let's say I plug in my earphones during the call, the call clarity goes haywire at both sides. I will have to cut the call and call the person again.

Not sure why is it this way and I never had this problem with my previous phones. I could use the earphones instantly.

    7) The display isn't so bright and I always set the display at 70% or so for better visibility; on the contrary, the display is too bright when set to the lowest brightness in the night time. I use my phone before going to sleep with all the lights switched off and the display would still be lot brighter than my previous Xiaomi phone.

    8) Battery life for my usage is pretty good. I can go 1.5 days without charging and I consistently get 10+ hours of screen on time with lot of browsing/using WhatsApp.

    9) One good thing I noticed is, whenever I'm connected to WhatsApp on my laptop the connection would stay on for long time and I can send/receive messages with no lag.

With my previous Xiaomi phone, this always has been a problem. Within few minutes, the connection would be gone and I have to either re-open the app after closing it or reconnect to internet for a proper connection to WhatsApp.

    10) Finding a proper tempered glass protection for the display is a pain in the ass. As the phone is new to the market, I still haven't been able to find one that fits perfectly.

    11) The loud speaker during phone calls is not so loud.

Overall, I bought this phone with lot of expectations but I'm not so happy with this phone. I can answer your questions related to this phone if you have any.

I have a question - is there any way to use a custom font system wide? I was using Google Sans in my previous phone and I'm not sure if there's an option for the same in Moto phones.

I sometimes miss older phone designs.

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 12:38 PM PDT

I know newer phones are objectively better. My current phone is a behemoth with a 6.8 inch screen and 7,000mAH battery. It's awesome for watching movies, reading and the occasional gaming.

But picking up my older phones, they feel so good. My OnePlus 3T, Motorola Droidb Razr M, LG G4. Love how compact they were.

Also miss the whole "curved" design they had around 2016-2018. Feels so natural to hold compared to the boxier designs now.

And I sometimes miss the removable backs. I remember decking out my LG G4 with tons of different leather back panels. Endless customization!

I love my current phone. Awesome display and batteries, but picking up my old phones from the drawer brings back some good memories.
