I have cleared the cache of Whatsapp, restarted the phone, disconnected Whatsapp from Google drive. Google Apps is MindtheGapps Does anyone encounter similar problems? [link] [comments] |

So I was wondering is it a secret feature? If so, why does no article from google mention it? Is it safe to use it? Will it affect my privacy or phone functioning? When I tapped on it, it wanted permission of which I forgot. I did not save the contact but the website address in the contact is a legit apple maps address as it begins with maps.apple.com, etc. I don't know what this is and I forgot the permission I granted of which I would like to undo. | Application state doesn't stay when I switch application Posted: 26 Jul 2021 02:38 AM PDT I have an Galaxy S20 Plus with latest update and I think my issue is a configuration issue but whenever I switch from one application A to application B and then back (even within 5 seconds), the application A starts fresh. For example, if I am scrolling LinkedIn and on a post about a something I like, I copy and switch to save it to notes, and then when I come back the LinkedIn app boots again. This happens with all the apps (Even Google Authenticator) which makes it irritating as I can't login to apps on my phone which require Authenticator. I've already unselected put unused app to sleep and LinkedIn and Authenticator (and the apps where I need state maintained) are not in the list of Sleeping Apps or Deep Sleeping Apps. Any suggestions? Since I think this is setting issue, where to look? I suspect it might be put apps to sleep but can't find where to ease this out (like wait for 3 mins before putting app to sleep). I select x next to what I searched, I press delete, and it doesn't clear the search. However on the Google app itself (with the G as the logo), it allows me to delete my searches, so this is a Chrome specific problem on my phone (Galaxy A50). How do I fix this problem? | Dangerous link accidentally opened Posted: 26 Jul 2021 12:33 AM PDT So I have been using Facebook for a while and there was a post from my friend with a link I thought it was a link to some app and he is trying to earn money from it's referral program when I opened it was a link to those fake surveys which always end up with the same last step to win "download our app" I just for curiosity did the first 3 steps they asked which seemed pretty normal to me (by normal I mean can't get me compromised in any way) 4 questions "what is your age" " what is your gender" "your opinion about our survey" "your phone's os" Then open 3 boxes out 9 to And I won ofc Then share to 20 friends/5 groups All I did was actually press share but since I have had uninstalled WhatsApp temporary for space it couldn't redirect me anywhere it wanted to "share" their link but surprisingly the share progress bar kept increasing 5%, 23% 45% until it went 100% and I was sent to the 4th and last step "download our app to win now" I didn't even dare to go near that 3d "download" button so I left the website Then I went to check the link on virustotal and it is literally flagged malicious/malware by 30 antiviruses So that is what I did after seeing that 1- change my passwords Then I had to go away from my phone for about 6 hours 2- I downloaded 3 different Antiviruses and all came with "no threat"even with all required and possible permissions given (including admin privileges) 3- after a day or so I clearly forgot to clear my browser cache and data incase it saved any malicious files so I went to do that too Overall until now there hasn't been any suspicious activity (this has been going for 3 days) but I am not that good at tech and I heard some advanced malware hides itself and its symptoms I am running an Android 7 phone (yes it is very old and outdated but that is what I have for atleast the next few months until I can upgrade) Any advice as if to know if I am atleast 90% safe? Except of factory resetting which can't be done for now Side note: I would have considered myself safe already as I didn't download the app from last step but the red flags from virustotal and the sources from "The New Indian Express" which claim the threat is already on the phone once the link is opened are the ones that made me paranoid about it [link] [comments] |
| Battery replacement in Galaxy S9+ Posted: 26 Jul 2021 06:25 AM PDT Some Backstory: About 8 weeks ago I was scuba diving and i dropped my phone in the ocean. Good news was this is the one activity you can recover the phone. Bad news was it seems some water got in the battery. I put it in rice and use computer air cleaner to dry it out, but i woke up to a popping sound of the battery puffing up in the middle of the night. I had seen enough youtube to see where this was going, and toer the battery out immediatley. The next day I called my insurance who said they could send the replacement phone no problem. I asked if they knew anyone who can recover the data, and they referred me to a best buy. Now i live overseas, so i shipped the phone sans battery to my family, who brought it there. The Geek Squad was pissed because the insurance (Hi Asurion!) keeps sending people there even though they aren't partners and aren't equipped for it. Now i recovered the SD card's information no proble, but as I just swapped providers I forgot to save 6 years of books, videos, pictures, and hundreds of pages or writings of mine to the cloud. I asked around and the only people who say they can recover the data are asking for corporate recovery prices, about the same price as the phone itself. Is there a place i can bring my phone to where a professional can hook up a new power source just long enough to see if the file sare recoverable, then transfer them to a drive, or do i have to make a very expensive decision? Any help would be greatly appreciated. On that phone are some of the only notes i have on several important writing projects, as well as pictures and videos of family and friends that have since passed. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 04:24 AM PDT Hi, I found a post on the Android subreddit with a download link to a leaked manual for the pegasus spyware and thought it would be interesting to download it and see how it worked but little did I know that the post also said it included an early version of pegasus for android. In the zip file I downloaded there was the manual and the notes and a zipped file again which was zipped again which when fully unzipped had some files with jibberish names. I uninstalled the files now and that post is now removed, how do I know if im safe. I am not no journalist or something, just a regular teenager so I wanted to know if there is anything I should do. My antivirus (bitdefender) on my phone did not alert me but when the file as uploaded to virustotal it did ring bells. Is there any way I can know my phone is completely secure? | Posted: 26 Jul 2021 04:01 AM PDT Hi all, I have a Huawei Honor 8A, it's recently started giving a really annoying problem where when I'm scrolling, it will suddenly scroll all the way in whichever direction I'm scrolling. Or sometimes it'll scroll so far in the intended direction and will suddenly bounce back the other way. It's very frustrating and making it near impossible to read anything. It does this on all apps by the way, and I've tried cleaning the screen, closing all open apps, rebooting and even a factory reset. Any advice would be much appreciated. [link] [comments] |
| Set time to 2037, messages got screwed up Posted: 25 Jul 2021 10:46 PM PDT So I set my time for 2037 to get resources in a game faster and I forgot to change it back, resulting in a lot of text messages to be sent and received in 2037, and I have no idea how to fix this, making all messages I send or receive appear above all the messages I sent and received during this period. English is not my mother tongue so it might not be fluent enough and sorry for that in advance. My google account was registered on my boyfriend's phone which is One Plus 6. He has lots of google accounts on his phone fyi. One day, I checked my Google history and it showed me dating apps that I have never used. It said it was used on android device model which is exactly the one he uses. I am using iPhone. I asked him and he said he also does not know and he sent me screen recording showing me he has no account for those dating apps or google play history. He told me later that he found out why and it was because on his phone, he can use two users like windows pc. I guess this means "multiple users feature". Everything is separated. Another user he had from the past was on active on his phone and dating apps. He told me he could see there were dating apps downloaded on that another user. I have no idea how multiple user feature works so I am confused and even though I decided to trust him this doubt is killing me. Can someone tell me how things work on android device? After upgrading and trying to redownload the app from my Google play library I found out its no longer available. I have contacted the developer who didn't care.
