Android Questions: What is the best non-Google camera app?

What is the best non-Google camera app?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 02:24 PM PDT

I am done with Google changing things every time I open their stupid camera app. "Night Sight" wanting 3sec exposures instead of allowing me...at all...to turn the flash on? Astrophotography? In MY garage? "More light disabled" (no flash available), and that's just in the past 15 minutes!

Very important Issue with my android phone: Uninstalled gboard (using adb) which was the only way to input my password after restarting it. I can no longer enter my password into it to unlock it

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 05:55 PM PDT

I used adb previously to uninstall gboard from my device and I can no longer unlock my phone after I restarted it because my phone can only use Gboard on startup. I put my phone behind a password and fingerprint and not a pin and my phone requires me to enter password after I restart it. After I uninstalled Gboard using adb I turned off usb debugging in the developer settings. My device is a Google Pixel 1 with Android 10. Is there anything I can use to unlock my phone? My phone contains sensitive information which I will need in the future.

Update: I have now fixed this issue by plugging in my keyboard with a usb c to usb a adapter and entering the password that way. I then reinstalled gboard in the play store and when I restarted my phone again I was able to use gboard to enter my password.

For some reason, my headphones cause my device to constantly decrease the volume, even when it's zero. There are no buttons on my headphones to change the volume. What is the problem, and how do I fix it?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 06:54 PM PDT

Like the title says, my headphones would be plugged in, and all of a sudden it's as if my volume down button is being constantly pressed over and over nonstop. The button isn't actually being pressed, however, but the result is the same as if it was.

This doesn't happen when my headphones aren't plugged in. Sometimes it takes a while for the issue to happen as well, but other times it can happen instantly.

I don't notice this problem happening on my Windows computer either.

Is "system" in Android 10 supposed to be about 13 gigabytes?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 08:14 PM PDT

I just flashed LineageOS Android 10 on my Fairphone 3, and I before I even opened any other app, I went into settings and noticed that the "system" category of the storage statistics is by far the largest at 13 gigabytes. This is kind of weird to me since the LineageOS installation image and recovery image combined are less than 1 GB, and a full desktop linux distribution can fit on an 8 GB flash drive with about half the drive to spare. My first generation Pixel XL with Android 8.1, also LineageOS, only has a "system" of 7 GB after using the same installation for years.

Is the full Android installation being this big normal? Or did something go wrong with my installation?

    Question: android remote rooting prevention

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 08:05 PM PDT

    Hey Android folks,

Do you know of any phones that prevent the ability of being remotely rooted?

For example I heard that the Samsung c7 or s7 had this feature built in.

I'm no android expert so I might be talking out of my ass.

    Thoughts?

Wifi Control settings for system apps

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 07:58 PM PDT

I use cellular data all the time. Very rarely do i use wifi. In the wifi control settings in android 10, can i stop the system apps from having any control? Will it cause any problem? I have denied access to every non-system app. But still the wifi keeps running in the background.

What tablets have good custom ROM support ? (10" or more)

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 07:45 AM PDT

    Hello !

I exhume this thread : What tablets have good custom rom support ? (Sorry, I didn't find a better title...)

I intend to buy a 10-or-more-inch tablet, but I'd like to be able to run a custom ROM on it (an "official" one). I went through several custom ROMs websites, but supported devices are either only smartphones, or listed by codenames without pictures, so it's a harsh to find which is a tablet.

I've also taken a look at LineageOS supported devices. There are 2 recent tablets : Samsung Tab S6 lite and Tab S5e. Each has a downside, but I'll consider to buy one of them if I don't find better.

According to several reviews, it seems that Tab S6 lite is too much bright when set to minimum brightness (something like 8 cd/m², which is very high for night light) and not very smooth-user-experienced, while Tab S5e has no mini-jack output.

So here are my questions :

    1. Do you know some "official" custom ROM that supports pretty recent tablets with at least a 10"-large screen ?
    2. About Tab S6 lite, has anyone noticed an improvement in minimum brightness that can be set on LineageOS or on an other custom ROM ? Or is it more likely to be device-dependent ?
    3. And about Tab S5e, it seems to be uneasy to find an adapter/splitter that allows to charge and have mini-jack speakers plugged into at the same time, and that doesn't buzz when doing this. Does anyone know some good adapter to do that ?

    Thanks !

Pixel 4 on VZW, running stock android.

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 02:31 PM PDT

Fonts in just the text messaging app have gotten huge. All other fonts are normal. Normally I run the default setting. Changing the font size in the settings menu the text app will get larger or smaller along with the system setting but's like it's one setting off to the large size

The smallest setting in the system makes the text message app fonts default size

    Next app issues?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 06:00 PM PDT

I am not sure if this is Android specific but I'm not sure where else to take this. For my work I use this app called next and I'm trying to add a profile picture, however when I go to add a picture to only source option is my camera. Does anyone know how to add my gallery as a photo source option on the app? Thanks!

Strange problem: Getting 3 "the device has either stopped responding..." popups after disconnecting LG phone's USB cable from computer AND whenever I log in and out of GMAIL, click "save as" to save a picture, etc.

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 05:31 PM PDT

Since yesterday, after I disconnected my LG phone from my pc, I started to get this popup message, see below.

    https://img57.pixhost.to/images/83/219469252_untitled.jpg

Oddly it shows up in threes, though when I try to save a picture it shows up in twos. Yes, that's right, when I try to save a picture, I also get the same message I get when disconnecting my phone! It's so strange. The charger is working okay and my phone charges so I have no idea what's happening.. I used a webcam with the same USB and works okay, so can't be the usb port. Restarting pc the popup goes away temporarily till I starting charging my phone and reconnecting the wire and it's back again.

What partition is in the /root directory in?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 05:21 PM PDT

I want to make use of the /root on Android directory (which is empty by default) for storing privileged files that no normal apps can access. However, playing around it in TWRP, I found that the contents of the root directory aren't affected when I issue a wipe data or format data command. So does this mean that the root directory is in its own partition? How big is it, and am I making a horrible mistake by messing with it?

Google Calendar Reminders not giving notifications, but assistant reminders do.

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 04:55 PM PDT

On my Galaxy S8, I've noticed this weird problem where my google calendar reminders aren't giving me notification pop ups. At first I thought it was a calendar issue, but events and tasks that I put in the google calendar still give notifications. Even stranger, when I was testing, and added a reminder through the google assistant, those reminders do pop up. Has anyone encountered this, and if so, how can I fix this? Thanks.

    Assistant isnt bringing up results.

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 04:53 PM PDT

LG V30, the assistant app, can hear me. I can make reminders and other stuff but no visual notification. Like if i say: "hey google, what is jelly?" It will read back the top description but will not pup up the results.

By holding the home button, it works fine. I tried disabling all other voice apps and clearing the cache.

Other than trying to reinstall any other ideals?

Deleted app is shown as still installed even after complete factory reset

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 04:45 PM PDT

I was on Tinder and for some reason the app bugged. I wasn't even to log back in so I tried to uninstall and reinstall it. When I went back on Google play store, I couldn't find it. I had to search it on google and then it showed as already installed. I tried to delete cache, erase data, but it still didn't work. So I did was stupid people like me do all the time, which is a factory reset. Now I lost all my apps, all my data, yet I still can't install Tinder back and it is still shown as already installed in Google Play Store!! It says that it can't install it on my device.

What should I do to install it back?

    Thanks

Samsung s7 edge froze and blacked out

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 11:55 AM PDT

I've had a Samsung 7 edge for a LONG time, maybe from back in 2018, I don't remember. I was typing then my screen froze and wouldn't fix itself, couldn't do anything. I looked it up on the internet on what I could do and I did a "force reset". Hold the buttons on the sides for a couple seconds and bam, after some time it went black. The phone is not responding to anything, I tried a ton of things and nothing. Even when I connect it to the charger, it doesn't charge (it doesn't show the thingy that it charges). Is my phone dead? Is there anything I could do?

    Changed default start screen?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 03:21 PM PDT

    Hi,

I took a chance and ordered a used Samsung Galaxy Note S10+.

It's been restored to factory default and reset, which is good. The only thing is that the start screen, the screen that shows up when you first turn on the device and is usually your carriers logo, is a photo of Kylo Ren.

My understanding is you could only alter that if you root the device. Is there any way to change it?

Is there any way to install an app directly to an sd card?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 02:23 PM PDT

Just picked up a new microsd card for my phone (Galaxy A01 running android 10) and went to install a new app on it. Only trouble is that the new app takes up enough space that even if I deleted everything off my phone, I would still need a bit more space to download it (which is why I got the card in the first place). Since I have no way to simply download it to internal storage then move it to external, is there any way I can force it to install to my micro sd card?

Not sure which flair fits best so tell me if i need to change it.

    Se card problem

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 02:14 PM PDT

My sd card shows as corrupted in my new phone (Vivo y70) but on the pc it shows up correctly, even in other phones it works, I've tried to format it but as soon as I paste my previous files In the sd it shows up corrupted again, I think it might be some file the one causing the issue but even when I put all of the files in a separate folder (so that it doesn't interfere) it still has that same problem.

Need help recovering photos of a samsung a51 with a broken touch screen

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 02:08 PM PDT

    Heyo

Phone screen is broken, no touch response as far as i can tell (screen is totally dark).

I dont believe my photos are saved to the cloud anywhere, i cant find them on samsung cloud or anywhere else at least. I want to get the photos before I send it in for repair in case they wipe it for any reason.

Usb debugging isnt turned on, I've been trying everything short of stuff like "android data recovery" programs. This is my first android after many iphones so I just dont want to accidentally brick it or fuck it up with malware.

    Any advice is welcome. thanks.

    Help with old Android Tablet

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 01:39 PM PDT

Hello guys! I have an old tablet running 4.4.2; and i've just made a factory reset just for "maintenance", and the problem is that i cant download the Play Store Services or anything related to it... I'm trying to download old versions from UpToDown, but I cant seem to find a 'good old enough' version from the apps I use on it, like Play Store, Facebook, Instagram, aaand WhatsApp (that, despite it ended it's services for my android version, I still can run an almost outdated version of it).

I wanna know what versions of which apps I should get first to get it running back again as it was before the factory reset :( Thanks!

    Android HTC email

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 01:14 PM PDT

Okay so I used to own an HTC 626 back in the day I believe. And that's where I made my Pokémon go account. Now for whatever reason I remember the play store on my phone automatically made an account for me, including creating an email with some parts of my name I think. I want to recover my Pokémon go account but I have no idea what that Google email was. I've gone through this before and last time I was successful, but now I no longer have that old phone. So does anyone know the formula which the play store uses to automatically make that email account?

Phone case fits but the sliding part around the camera is loose, how can I fix it?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 12:53 PM PDT

I got one of those cases that have a sliding thing that covers the camera And the case fits great but the camera slidy thing is loose

Should I return it or can I fix it somehow?

I'd rather keep it because it's the only colour they had that I liked I'm also aware the sliding part will loosen up over time with use but I don't want to buy it already in that state, I also want to know how to tighten it up again for when it happens again

    ETA: https://images.app.goo.gl/xK8P6rkuVz6eZ4Nt7

This is an example of what I'm talking about, the part that slides to cover the camera moves when you tilt the phone
