Any way to turn my phone off and on without any buttons?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 08:51 AM PDT

Hello, so i have a shitty phone that has endured a few bad years and the sides of it are destroyed. I can't press the two volume buttons so I have to turn it up and down through the phone settings and there's no way to press the power button either so I rely on an app that turns off the screen. However, like I said all it does is turn off my screen so the phone is still on. Is there any way that I can make the phone reset/reboot without using any buttons? I don't mean like, deleting everything and having the phone be like it was when I bought it. I just mean the classic reboot option next to the turn off one whenever you keep your finger pressed on the power button for a few seconds.

I know there are apps that can change the bindings of each button so for example my turn up volume button could be used as the power button but since none of them work, that's not an option. Since I can't turn on the screen either through normal means, I use my fingerprint function to do so but if I completely turn off my phone somehow then I won't be able to turn it back on with that so I need help. I know people will suggest I repair it or buy a new one but I gotta hold on to this one till summer is over so that's not possible. Sorry if the specific terms I used aren't clear, English isn't my first language so using technical terms can be difficult.

Is there a way to change the default speakers/microphone used for all activity (all apps) on Android? (like you can do on Windows, for example)

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 07:27 AM PDT

I've been using an app where you can talk to random people online, kinda like Omegle but voice only. Everything about the app is great except for the fact that it refuses to use anything other than my phone's actual speakers and microphone.

My Bluetooth earbuds usually work great and once they're connected they're automatically used as the audio/microphone if I call someone or on an app like WhatsApp.

I found an app called Lesser AudioSwitch which seemed like it might do the trick, but it didn't really work.

I'm starting to think that the only way is for the app's developers to release an update where they fix this and enable support for Bluetooth devices... Any ideas?

Display bugged out hard, went to recovery, and hasn't worked correctly since.

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 07:01 AM PDT

    Hello!

I have a OnePlus 8T 5G from T-Mobile. While in Walmart yesterday, discussing yogurts with the SO, and my phone just started to bug out hard. Lock screen kept going dark before I could scan my fingerprint. Eventually, it goes on until the device reboots I to recovery mode. I start my phone normally, and ever since then the top and bottom of the screen now have huge black bars and the content in the middle is squished. I checked every setting, the only thing different was everything was tiny due to scaling. I fixed it back to default, but everything is still the same squished problem. I downloaded an app that checks hardware settings and found that the screen is now reporting as a 5.5" instead of the 6.55" reported by OnePlus. I have the latest version of everything installed, no malicious root apps, just basic social media, basic utilities apps for sorting my productive means for work general stuff. Haven't rooted the phone either as I still have payments left on it. I'm at my wits end about this and don't know what to do. I'm installing ADB now to check the build.prop and see if something was modified somehow.

If anyone knows anything about this and can help, that'd be great. Thanks in advance!

Touchpad sensitivity gets weird and intermittent when I plug my phone in to charge (Samsung Galaxy A32 5G)

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 09:06 AM PDT

At first I thought it was because of my new screen protector just being thick, but I realized I only have an issue pressing down and typing on my phone once I plug it in to charge. Another thing I've noticed is that it's hard to crop pictures with it plugged in too, instead of dragging the edge smoothly it becomes slightly wobbly.

Anyone else have this issue? Any possible solutions? I've only had this phone for just over a week and it's been going on for most of the time I had it (that I've noticed)

Can I disable Pop-Up viewing mode?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 06:37 AM PDT

Since the last update I installed on my Android device (Android 11), I've noticed that my phone has been opening notifications in pop-up viewing mode pretty frequently instead of just defaulting to fullscreen like I want them to. I personally don't like this feature, and having to go through the extra step of fullscreening these pop ups is pretty annoying. Is there a way to just straight up disable this functionality, or is it a feature I just have to live with?

    Can't manually delete search phrases

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 06:33 AM PDT

I'm using Samsung standard internet browser and recently something has happened because I can't manually delete the search phrases. Usually I just tap and hold on the phrase and I get the pop up asking if I want to erase and I ofc click erase, but nothing happens? It won't delete it. I hope you know what I mean, it's hard to explain without showing a video/picture. I'm not signed in on my google account and I don't want to be, I never have been and it has always worked before. I thought it had to do with an update but no... It's starting to piss me off...

Is there an app or program to block all Covid related discussions?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 10:49 PM PDT

I know learning about the virus is important, but when it gets shoved down your throat from every single app you use for the past two years, it gets kinda overwhelming.

I just want to read some HAPPY news for once. Is that too much to ask?

OnePlus 8T Display Color Temperature too warm ( white is green / yellow )

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 07:15 AM PDT

The screen color temperature of my OnePlus 8T is really warm, and has a green/yellow tint when screen should be white (three devices OP 8T tested, because I did two replacements of the device, same issue found).
Are there other people who have noticed this problem?
I turned off all the settings that make it warmer, and in the advanced screen calibration I selected the coolest color temperature possibile, but it isn't enough.
In the thread I wrote on OnePlus forum ( https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/display-color-temperature-too-warm-white-is-green-yellow.1466545/ ), I posted a photo in which I compare it with another amoled phone running ColorOS (even not at its coolest color temperature) and you can clearly see that the whites of OnePlus 8T are too warm, but unfortunately you can't see well the green tint from the picture I attached, not as much as I see in reality.
(Actually the colors in the photo of my thread in OnePlus forum are not perfectly real, it's less yellow and more green for OnePlus (on the right), less blue and totally white for the other amoled phone running ColorOS (on the left). I took this photo with another smartphone, and with a smartphone camera it's really difficult for the colors to be represented in a perfectly realistic way, especially in this situation)

I thought it could be a hardware problem, so I returned it twice and took other two OP 8T, but there's the same problem in the same intensity in each of the devices, so I think it could be software, but i can't understand why i have found so few people talking about this problem online, although I still found someone.
Problem found always using the phone, not only using Google Chrome or certain apps.
I notice this issue very much in lowlight during the night, but also outdoor during the day, with a lot of light and full display brightness. Only when the sunlight hits directly the screen the white seems more white.

Another issue: color temperature slider (in advanced settings of screen calibration) doesn't produce any noticeable change in 0-25% range.
Strange behavior: tilting the phone a little (in any direction) make the whites cooler. If I look at the phone from a non-perpendicular angle, tilting it 20/30 degrees, makes the whites almost perfect.

Has anyone else here noticed this problem besides me, maybe also on other OnePlus models? Could it not be seen as a problem by most people? Could I just be very unlucky receiving three OnePlus 8T with the same hardware problem?
In your opinion can I hope for an increase in the range for color temperature calibration in the next OxygenOS? I like this OS so much, but this greenish / yellowish / warm display bothers me a lot. I have read some articles in which it is said that OxygenOS will not be replaced by ColorOS as happened for HydrogenOS, but in any case at the operating system level some changes will be made that will make the two systems more similar and compatible.
Is it possible that the management of the color temperature of the screen falls into these kinds of changes, since it works well on ColorOS?

Thanks for reading my long post, and thanks a lot to those who will reply.

Can the Phone Repair Service access my 2FA, Google Account passwords, SMS, Photos, etc ?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 09:09 AM PDT

I recently took my phone to a mobile repair service (unofficial, 3rd party). The phone had fallen into water and had severe water damage - it was non-functional, I was not able to turn it back on and so far the service has not been able to get it to turn on.

I have a mild suspicion they might be doing something shady. So I started thinking - what sensitive data could they possibly be able to access?

The phone model is OnePlus. It's locked with fingerprint, and pattern, which I did NOT give to them. Phone model comes with Android 6 out of the box, but 90% sure it was upgraded to Android 9. Also, SIM card was removed, I did NOT give it to them.

    I'm mostly concerned about:

    • 2FA (Google Authenticator App) - AFAIK these are encrypted and impossible to access without unlocking the phone.
    • Google Account passwords (the ones that are auto-saved by Chrome) - I'd assume these are also encrypted, hopefully, someone can confirm that.
    • Photos - since disk encryption was NOT enabled, I'd assume these are freely accessible if you take out the data drive and put it into some special device that's able to read the data?
    • SMS ???
    • app data - notes (Evernote), FB messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram ???
    • cache/temp data ???
    • anything else ???

Any info/input would be greatly appreciated!

Phone now shows two Facebook apps when trying to open a notification

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 11:57 AM PDT

My phone is a LG G8, Universal Unlocked edition. I am with Sprint, but the most recent simcard they gave me says T-Mobile now, I assume because of the upcoming merger.

Lately, when I get a Facebook notification, I see the "Choose Default App" dialog appear and two Facebook apps listed, exact same icon and name. I have no idea if one of them is a fake or something.

Furthermore, when I went into my list of apps and searched for Face, I saw four of them related to Facebook: "Facebook", "Facebook App Installer", "Facebook App Manager", and "Facebook Services". I didn't see Facebook mentioned twice.

Is this anything to be worried about? And if not, what do I do about this duplicate Facebook app it's now asking me to choose? I have no idea which is which.

Are malicious links effective on Android just like on PC?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 11:51 AM PDT

I am used to accidentally entering malicious websites Leave and without even scanning or taking any further steps my phone would be fine for years until I eventually get a new phone and move on

However there was a popular scam going on messenger/Whatsapp and would mostly be received by friends who fell for it

I searched for it and some claim that the malicious website is more advanced than usual malicious links on phones that requires human interaction with download buttons And it is said to be using some drive-by injection exploit to install malware on your phone

And to my bad luck with links like these I got a notification from my friend on messenger And with my years of experience and learning that I should never click on any questionable links or downloading shady apps/files or opening deceptive emails

Somehow all this knowledge dropped and when I saw a link from my friend who never sends me links unless they are related to news my fingers were already pressing on that link The website loaded (and I am still not putting in my mind the possibility that the link might be malicious) And it is one of those "download our app to win new phone/win a free copy of a PC exclusive game on your phone (like GTA v mobile scams back in 2015-2018) I was like "yeah whatever I have tried these years ago" and left

About 12 hours later I am scrolling through Facebook, Instagram and literally 9/10 of posts are "have you received this link from your friend today? DON'T OPEN IT" And while searching, the links seems to be a drive-by malware injection link according to people and forums talking about it

And after seeing people reaction about how "DANGEROUS!!" it is I freaked out as well so I went to scan my phone with different and trustworthy anti-malware applications like Malwarebytes

    Surprisingly... No threat found

I then deleted all browser's data and cleared my whole phone's caches and rebooted it so any temp file would be deleted

Then since people claim it is a drive-by downloader it means "apps" and "files" So I scrolled through my whole apps list Home screen/app drawer/settings Nothing was found I changed passwords too

Any other steps should I take or am I safe? And can a drive-by download work on Android just like it works and hide itself on PCs like trojan droppers?

How to video record myself and hear myself at the same time using my Android phone and my Blue Yeti?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 11:50 AM PDT

    Hello,

I just got my blue yeti and connected it to my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE using an adapter, which works perfectly fine! My only issue is that I would like to hear my voice back as I video record myself through the camera app on my S20 FE (or I suppose any Android phone). Is there a way to do that?

I have tried downloading other apps (such as Sound Amplifier) but that can't work while recording from the camera app simultaneously.

    Thank you

Possible to get rid of extraneous update notifications?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 03:03 AM PDT

I recently got a new phone (warranty replacement from Verizon). As usual, when they ship it it often doesn't have the latest update, and in the past I have always needed to do this. So I ran the update, let it download and install.

However, as soon as I did that and restarted the phone, it said there was another update, or rather it still had the update notification. It's not unheard of for it to need to update, so I ran this again, figuring that it might need one more version.

However, after that it's still showed an update notification, and after having done this at least a half-dozen times, every time I restart the phone afterwards it shows one, and I have a feeling it's not going to go away no matter how many times I do it.

Is this a known issue, and if so is there any way to get rid of this [I would just ignore it, but then there's no way for me to know when actual legitimate updates come along] without having to completely wipe the phone and attempt a new reinstall?

    My device

    • Galaxy S9
    • Android 10
    • Kernel Version 4.9.186

    (what I'm talking about)

So since about a week a lot of icons on my phone are blurry and in low resolution, I did some research and I read it could be related to the battery saver, but after turning of the battery saver and rebooting my phone the icons are still low res. Does anyone how to fix this?

    Hidden files ?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 06:17 AM PDT

So my grandpa has a smasung galaxy a5 which runs on android 7.0 and that should have 16gb of storage. When looking in a file manager or in the settings it says that 15gb are used an 1gb is free. But it also states in the settings, that only 3.1gb are used for all the apps together and I also searched through the complete file manager but every file it shows together only use about 1gb of storage. So does anyone have an idea where the other 10gb of used storage could be ?

I have a video of what it is doing but apparently submitting a video of the issue on a help sub isn't allowed so you'll have to read this description:

Turns off, flashes google on the screen, animates the little G logo thing, turns off, flashes google, turns off, flashes google on the screen, animates the little G logo thing....

Rinse and repeat for like 30 minutes now. No idea what to do or what I even can do. Any ideas?
