| Posted: 20 Jul 2021 08:56 AM PDT Although it affects both, iphone requires a zero click attack#Spyware_details), and is apparently present across multiple versions of ios. I doubt such a vulnerability could have persisted if not for the closed source nature of ios, and is more difficult to prevent owing to the same reason. In case of android, spyware appears to require at least some interaction from the user. Open source should be the way forward. The greater the number of eyes combing the code, less vulnerable it is. Apple's walled garden approach is not sustainable for security (but surely very profitable for apple). Ideally, governments should pick open source software and harden it for their use, rather than relying on a single private company to do so. I know it appears off topic, but I could not abstain myself from appreciating the benefits of open source software, which are often buried and negated by propaganda from big tech companies. Hopefully more people realise it, and more money and talent is invested towards software that actually benefits people. [link] [comments] | ||

| Samsung US Unpacked reservation (registration) link Posted: 20 Jul 2021 07:26 PM PDT https://www.samsung.com/us/smartphones/the-next-galaxy/reserve/ "Reserving" or just registering for the event will grant you an additional $100 trade-in credit, first 12 months of Samsung Care+ free, and a special offer towards Galaxy products during the pre-order period (probably a credit) The Samsung websites in other countries will also update eventually. For reference, registration for the S21 Unpacked in Canada granted $50 off 256GB models (effectively making the storage bump from 128GB free), and 2 years of Samsung Care+ for free. They didn't advertise what would be given if you registered, so it's best to do so if you plan on purchasing On an unrelated note, check out the teaser [link] [comments] | ||

| New Dell Mobile Connect app for Windows 10 Posted: 20 Jul 2021 10:00 AM PDT Supposed to compete with Your Phone, but it appears to be limited to Dell computers https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/dell-mobile-connect/9ph12ktndn3m https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.screenovate.dell.mobileconnectng There's two ways to bypass the Dell verification and use this on non-Dell computers: https://twitter.com/nicolaspopy/status/1417517346156163077 I wonder if something similar could be applied to get Samsung Quick Share working [link] [comments] | ||
