| Heads up: The main camera sensor on the Nord 2 is not the same as the 9 or 9 Pro main camera Posted: 22 Jul 2021 11:17 PM PDT OnePlus has been advertising that the Nord 2 uses the same sensor as the 9 series. This is true but OnePlus has been clever in their wording. The main sensor on the Nord 2 is the IMX766. This is the same sensor as the ultrawide sensor on the 9/9 Pro. The main sensors on the 9 series are different (IMX789 on the 9 Pro and IMX689 on the 9). I've already seen a few people assume that since the main sensor is the same as the 9 Pro, the photo quality should be the same too. That's not true. However, the IMX766 is still a great sensor, especially for midrange. [link] [comments] | ||

| Nova7 is now in public beta on the play store! Posted: 22 Jul 2021 05:13 AM PDT https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher See here - improvements abound, as it's been totally redone to be based on the launcher3 code now. I've been using builds from discord for the past 6 months and loving every minute of it. On Android 11 if your device has a particular api in use (mostly just pixels) gesture nav animations work properly as well! [link] [comments] | ||

| I've just swapped my Samsung Note 10+ for a Motorola G30. Posted: 22 Jul 2021 12:58 PM PDT Okay, well not swapped, exactly. My Note 10+ died a sudden death overnight at the beginning of the week (woke up, completely dead, doesn't charge). Thankfully, I still have 4 months on my warranty so off it goes to Samsung for repair! I basically just required a phone that worked as a phone (first and foremost), and gave me access to WhatsApp and Audible - that's enough to see me through the week! I finally settled on the G30. From a few hours research, it seemed to offer a reasonable user experience for the money (£150). Suffice to say, I wasn't expecting much at all compared to the Note 10+ it was standing in for... I have to admit that I've been pleasantly surprised! Okay, so it's an IPS screen instead of an OLED, the pixel density is visibly lower, the camera is rudimentary at best and the speaker is only really useful for notifications. But overall I'm pretty blown away by just how much phone it is for the money. The whole experience has made me really re-evaluate how much I intend to spend on my smart phone in the future. I tend to keep my phones for two generations/years before upgrading, and I'm a total snob, so I'll probably end up buying a flasghip, anyway. But holy crap, this experience has really given me some perspective on the diminishing returns of higher end devices. The Note is a great phone. But is it 8 times as good as this G30. Hell no!
